Sophitia General Discussion / Q&A

suirad i know i told you this already but...you really need to train yourself to see it all on reaction! keep at it bro i know you can do it!

Well, i'm feeling pretty crappy after last night's session... i ran into an AMAZING Ivy and 2 kids that were playing really good Nightmares, and all i can say is rapefest 2009. I couldn't block a thing from Ivy... she was just destroying me with all these long range moves from all directions, high/mid/low. She kept doing this command throw that made me go in the air and purple shit went everywhere taking half my life. Was that an A+G or B+G throw? Second, the two nightmares i faced were straight bulldogs and i couldn't barely get a move in edgewise.(even though i consider myself more of a turtle) What happened there? How do i deal with these people that are just so in my face??? Obviously they were more skilled than me but damn, i barely knicked a one of them.

If Ivy is in SW, its A+G. In WP its B+G. Against Ivy, try and keep the pressure on, and punish her hard (ex. Like CL 214). Keeping pressure on I find is the best way to fight against her. Similar against NM, and her G236 helps alot.

Bump that I figured it out. Since the beginning of the buffer apparently only matters to the "B" counter attack you can just press A as you GI and start buffering 66B since that works on both "A" and "K" counters. If it was B afterall the A that was bufferd at the beginning will go through giving you enough time to switch gears and press K. Got it down in practice mode now, just gotta try it in a fight.

/edit/ Even though it turns out A+B > aGI(K) > 66B isnt a combo its still relavent as 1) its obscure 2) can only be teched one direction 3) sometimes sideswitches and 4) the way it can be teched can be tech trapped with TAS AA another relavent response to A+B aGI(A).

The only move that leaves the opponent standing after 236236AA is 2A. Just throwing that out there for all you mind-gamey people. That and I'm sick to death of seeing 236B as the B&B follow-up.

How often do you use A+B aGI? It seems like i can't get it to work for me that much, I'm pretty sure it only GI's mids right? Does that also include kicks?

100th post weeee

It gi's all mid's I believe. I like to use it only when I absolutely know there's a mid coming ie: X's 33B, otherwise there's a lot more recovery and I would've been better off using a regular gi. when you gi kicks, you get an attack that looks like a+k

It's definitely not something you want to throw out to much... the recovery is quite poor. On the other hand, if you can predict the mid, or at least force a situation where a mid is likely then it's not half bad. It's a pity they lowered the damage... it was monstrous is SC3.

Ha, funny very general question. I've heard it both ways, is it pronounced sophi-teeya or sophi-sha? I think it's the latter, anyone care to settle this for me?

So-fee-tee-a since it's written with that pronunciation in Japanese: ソフィーティア

I took a look at it, GIing seems to recover somwhere in the high 30s frame-wise while I got A+B pegged to 52. That is a significant difference. I do like A+B's buffer freindlyness however, the larger GI window and the fact it can't be re-GIed...

Larger GI window? By how much? And, when are you buffering A+B? Could it be helpful after a blocked 236B? It seems like a lot of people attack horizontal after that happens.

The window is from frames 4-13(10 frames) as opposed to normal GI which I believe is 2-8(7 frames). The buffering is an issue when you are trying to GI a string(example X's 3-hit 33B string given above) or out of a lot of blockstun(presumably opponent is + frames on you). 236B is very punishable, unless you're online I wouldn't suggest trying to chase it with a GI unless you REALLY like giving away free damage.

Use Cassandra's 66B+G throw on Sophitia, she'll say "I'm sorry Sophitia" (at least, with the English voices), that should settle the debate. There's a definite "T" in it when she says it.

BTW everyone should try out 22B! its great on block and i happen to use it pretty often enough! and it SG breaks in 10 which is GREAT!

Yeah... story mode.... the one where all the words scroll up the screen, then when you win there is 15 seconds of shitty cutscene. Yeah we got that, but i just didn't remember hearing her name said. This was just a debate between my roomie and I. As for X's pronunciation change, can't help ya there.

I like to use 66A+B as my safe ranged move with good SG damage. Obviously 22B has it's advantages(better range, longer TC, + on block), but I think 66A+B is no slouch either(much faster, earlier TC, pushback).
