Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I have a question to all fans; do your souls still burn?! I have an exciting announcement to make that you have all been waiting for:

SEASON PASS 2

First of all, we would like to apologise for the lack of communication. We have been hard at work to deliver you the best content possible and it is finally ready! Here is the list of items that will be included with Season Pass 2:

SOULCALIBUR VI - DLC1: Charade Parts 1 (Left Leg)
SOULCALIBUR VI - DLC2: Charade Parts 2 (Right Leg)
SOULCALIBUR VI - DLC3: Charade Parts 3 (Body)
SOULCALIBUR VI - DLC4: Charade Parts 4 (Right Arm)
SOULCALIBUR VI - DLC5: Charade Parts 5 (Left Arm)
SOULCALIBUR VI - DLC6: Charade Parts 6 (Eye)

Charade will be playable after all parts have been downloaded and he will be a mimic character. However, he will also have some unique moves of his own. Our battle director will explain in greater detail how this works. Additionally, Season Pass 2 will come with a Soul Chronicle story for Charade. I know some fans will think 'will there be a season 3?' We do not know yet at the moment, but we want to do everything we can to make that possible. Our souls also burn with passion for this franchise and there are still things we would like to add to this game. Thank you for your support!

As our producer explained, Charade will be a mimic character with some unique moves. These moves will unlock when certain conditions have been fulfilled. Some of them require you to successfully hit your opponent with a combination of attacks while others require you to get hit a certain amount of times. We want to make it more enjoyable to play as a mimic character and to surprise your opponent. Charade's Soul Charge will enable him to fly in the air and attack from above. When soul charged, he will return to the stage if he gets knocked out of the ring. Also, his colours will change a bit during a Soul Charge. We hope you enjoy playing with Charade.

Journalist: Thank you for taking the time to talk with me. [shakes hands]

Producer: [shakes hands]

Journalist: This game is supposed to be a reboot to the franchise if I'm not mistaken. Could you tell us if SoulCalibur VI is considered successful and if you plan to support this franchise in the future?

Producer: When we started working on SoulCalibur VI, we wanted to return to the era of the first game. We feel that this game is successful as a reboot and as a new entry to the franchise. After we noticed that, we began working on Season Pass 2, which is now ready to be released.

Journalist: That's great to hear and I appreciate your efforts on supporting the game. Players all over the world enjoyed Tira, 2B and Amy, but there are still characters that aren't in the game yet. Could you explain why you chose to include Charade instead of characters like Setsuka and Hwang?

Producer: Our aim with Season Pass 2 was to surprise players. Charade is not as popular as most other characters, but we want to give him a chance to shine as well and we think players will enjoy using him just like the rest of the characters. We also wanted to expand on his story. Charade has potential and we want to show that to everyone.

Journalist: I quite enjoyed playing as Charade in SoulCalibur II, it was always fun to change movesets after rounds and I like his design. My friends didn't like him so much though after I kept beating them with Charade!

Producer: [laughs]

Journalist: I do look forward to playing as Charade in this game. I also hope you will eventually add Setsuka and Hilde, they are one of my favourites. And maybe some extra stages?

Producer: I will try, but I can't promise that!

Journalist: Alright, thank you for speaking with me, it was a pleasure to meet you [shakes hands]

Producer: Thank you [shakes hands]

Is EVO japan going to be a thing in 2020? I heard numbers were down from 2018 to 2019 due to FighterZ and Smash being absent and the venue not being in Tokyo for 2019.

EVO Japan techincally is a good idea but I don't think its finacially viable in its current form.
I think Japanese laws prevent them from charging for entry fees meaning it'll never be profitable unless sponsors bankroll the whole event. Hoepfully the main EVO tournament makes enough to cover both locations.

Well I don't really watch too many "esports" or whatever streams/events but this event for SCVI looks really sharp and professional! Glad to see it there with tekken

Do yall think Cassandra will still have a rivalry with Raphael?
Probably not here since this game only covers SC1 to just before SC3. But they may include some minor in battle dialogue hinting towards it.
Just before SoulCalibur II, you mean. And I wouldn't even say that Cassandra and Raphael have a rivalry, per se, Raphael just steals Cassandra's Soul Edge shard while he's attempting to get the sword in SoulCalibur III and they just happen to cross paths again in SoulCalibur IV, due to both seeking Soul Calibur, albeit for very different reasons.

Do yall think Cassandra will still have a rivalry with Raphael?
I hope so. These little interconnections help tie the little bit of a story we get together. However, since Raphael has a more serious rivalry with Azwel now, I think it's possible Cassandra could have a rivalry with Tira or another neutral/evil character.

I really hope that Cassandra does indeed get announced at EVO, if not the confirmation of a Season 2. I need a reason to fix my PS4 and get it up to speed again aside from wanting to recreate the lords from Fire Emblem: Three Houses in CaS l o l

Honestly i expect at least one announcement at Evo and it will be Cassandra, tho i'd like a "one more thing" extra surprise announcement too obviously.

Last year Evo reveal was simply too dope, hope and let's see if PS can top it if not deliver even better next week

See, but the "one more" thing only really would have worked if they were doing season two, which is assumed to follow like Tekken, and release three packs of two, so they could have shown Hwang's trailer... then one more did a reveal with Aeon. Which is why Cassandra should have been revealed last week.
There's simply no way that they announce three characters at EVO.

I have to go with Crash on this one: I definitely get the impression that this game is meant to cover aspects of the narrative (such as it is) in SCI through SCII and impinging into early SCIII. Zasalamel and Tira aren't even in the original narrative until that game (and numerous of the other characters first appeared in SCII), and even if you retcon their earlier entry, you can't account for Tira's age unless you are willing to accept that some things are just different--and at that point, you have to concede the games have been smashed together in at least some sense. Now I don't know all the moving pieces of the old narrative like you do (it was too disjointed and cornball for me and its been too long since I first experienced most of it, so most of the fine particulars haven't stuck in my mind). But I can tell that story is massively accelerated in VI and that it covers well more than the territory original contained in SCI--no matter how the devs chose to describe VI pre-launch.

The thing is, SoulCalibur III presented Zasalamel, Tira, and Setsuka as already established characters, like they were already here, and their histories were in their biographical information in their profiles. This history took place prior to SoulCalibur III, yes, but to where the exact placement of their stories, that's a bit harder to say. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to try!

Tira's story timeline is established in New Legends of Project Soul, which pegs her as an active member at 9 years old in 1583, when the Evil Seed event occurs. Meaning Tira is definitely well within her rights to have an origin story that takes place before SoulCalibur II. So it is, and here we have it. Her appearance is a compromise of using an existing model and animations as well as following the same rules as Talim, as the best example, where her gameplay appearance is based on the last year of story, not the first year of story. They would have had to have a "young Tira" and "Tira" as separate entities, much like Amy, where we do see her younger, but only in art, but the difference between these two is that we didn't have Amy as a character to play out her story parts while she was younger, while with Tira we did. And they weren't about to make two different models for the same character in the same game, just being realistic.

Zasalamel is an eternal, dating back to the original Algol, through all of history, up until the present, so he's also equally able to appear before SoulCalibur II, and if we've got distortion/deviation, he's the center of it, so that's that. He's a key piece of the narrative, and doesn't contradict anything.

Setsuka is an unknown, then, but we may very well have her placement in the story timeline proper with season two, her having a Soul Chronicle, of course. But what we do know is that Mitsurugi killed her master, and she swears revenge. What we don't know is how long it takes for her to steel herself to actually carry out her plan, so I find it more than reasonable that Mitsurugi may well have killed her master prior to the events of SoulCalibur II. Let's not forget that SoulCalibur II, SoulCalibur III, and SoulCalibur IV all take place within the same year, too. So it's not like there's a lot of time to pass, unless we're saying that Mitsurugi killed her master closer to the defeat of Inferno than the revival of Nightmare, but we don't have a date on it. If it's just before the rise of Nightmare, then it's not very much out of rationalization.

The core thing is that all of these events are taking place before Nightmare's resurgence in 1590, before Raphael confronts him, stabs Soul Edge, and Siegfried is freed, at long last. There isn't anything that doesn't allow any of the events we've seen thus far in SoulCalibur VI take place before this event.
