Do you blame SCV what is going wrong with the franchise?

I say no, because, despite fan backlash, SCV was still a solid game on its own merits and it sold and reviewed well. It wasn't until the subsequent spin-offs were when things went wrong.

And SCV was the source. It was an unfinished game that made a lot of changes people hated, and the backlash towards the game has only increased over the years. Since then, all we've had to fill the gap are these shitty spin-offs. Was SCV the only reason for what went wrong? No. But it did have a big part.

What are you talking about? Whenever I see people look back at SCV, it's almost always about the mistakes it made as a result of Daishi's new direction in order to "reboot" the series, on top of a severe lack of content. Often when I see gamers looking forward to SCVI, it's with cautious optimism, hoping it's not like SCV.

I don't blame SCV for putting the series on life support tbh. I feel like as if it was a step in the right direction even if some things didn't hit the right mark. I personally all the unnecessary spin-off titles were what caused the series to take a couple steps backwards.

As for this backlash thing, the only "backlash" I ever seem to hear is just casuals bitching and whining like Facebook Warriors about their missing characters, the disappointing story, the new characters, and it's lack of content.

Edit: If my latter paragraph came across as harsh I apologize for that. But honestly at this point it's getting tiresome.

Those points are completely valid.

Tbh, the only things out of those four I would view as an actual detriments would be its lack of content (both online and offline) and story (for casual players). Everything else I couldn't care less about really because I never really had an attachment to many of the older characters and I found some of the new characters quite enjoyable. Don't get me wrong, I understand why people would be disappointed by the fact that their favourite characters aren't in SCV, but to view it as a major issue seems rather absurd.

That's your opinion. To me, it just wasn't the same. Using the argument that they're "functions" is a pretty bad one, because let's look at what happened when the same argument was used for the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite:

why must things be this way

None of that makes any sense. I remember people disliking SC4 as well. Hating Star wars as guests, hating lack of 1P content, hating the game mechanics compared to the previous. (too slow, online sucks, blah blah blah).

People thought there may not be a 5th one, but we got it. SC5 was unfinished, but the direction they went in with the in-game mechanics is much better.

I blame Namco for what is going on with the franchise. Every game since SC2 gets backlash for not being SC2. If I recall correctly, SC5 didn't even get bad reviews. I remember Angry Joe gave it a 7/10 which is good. It is really just people who liked older characters more that were disappointed with 5, which honestly has no sustain. SC2HDO failed big time because of how much Namco dislikes putting resources into the series. It really isn't any one game's fault.

Wrong about what exactly? That there was a backlash against SCV, that many were unhappy with what happened with the game due to being unfinished with tons of idiotic changes? Beause I know that exists. Get some new material.
I do blame the fact that the direction the series took was what compromised and it inevitably came out in how a lot how people received it. SCV was definitely a very divisive title with the most unnecessary changes in the franchise to me. People may have adapted to SCV, but that doesn't retroactively justify the design choices to me, especially when it was through window-shopping other popular titles. We ended up getting a mess in most of what was changed.

I place the blame on Namco because they missed out on so many opportunities to improve/sustain the series at all. Glitches, poor planning, wasted patches, and overall just ignoring the game after 6 months of release. But more so I blame a large part of the community. There are the diehards so you can't say much about them, but those that became disillusioned with whatever game came out starting with SC3 and publicly campaigned to have others not only stop playing the game but made a concerted effort to keep new people from trying it should all burn in the fiery depths of the deepest pits in Hell. Sure you can say Namco was to blame and you didn't like the game compared to whatever your favorite was but I blame you for tearing down the community that you were supposed to be a part of. If you wanna not play and leave that's fine, but fostering nothing but shit and bile to poison the community for the new game? Go fuck yourself.
