I say no, because, despite fan backlash, SCV was still a solid game on its own merits and it sold and reviewed well. It wasn't until the subsequent spin-offs were when things went wrong.

Those points are completely valid. As for this backlash thing, the only "backlash" I ever seem to hear is just casuals bitching and whining like Facebook Warriors about their missing characters, the disappointing story, the new characters, and it's lack of content.
Tbh, the only things out of those four I would view as an actual detriments would be its lack of content (both online and offline) and story (for casual players). Everything else I couldn't care less about really because I never really had an attachment to many of the older characters and I found some of the new characters quite enjoyable. Don't get me wrong, I understand why people would be disappointed by the fact that their favourite characters aren't in SCV, but to view it as a major issue seems rather absurd. Those points are completely valid.
That's your opinion. To me, it just wasn't the same. Using the argument that they're "functions" is a pretty bad one, because let's look at what happened when the same argument was used for the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite:Tbh, the only things out of those four I would view as an actual detriments would be its lack of content (both online and offline) and story (to some degree). I blame BAMCO
I blame both. Moreso Bamco for their favoritism in Tekken, and even Tekken 7 is mediocre, besides the gameplay.I blame Tekken, even though SC in general is much better than any Tekken, Tekken gets all the love.
Screw Tekken.
I do blame the fact that the direction the series took was what compromised and it inevitably came out in how a lot how people received it. SCV was definitely a very divisive title with the most unnecessary changes in the franchise to me. People may have adapted to SCV, but that doesn't retroactively justify the design choices to me, especially when it was through window-shopping other popular titles. We ended up getting a mess in most of what was changed.Wrong about what exactly? That there was a backlash against SCV, that many were unhappy with what happened with the game due to being unfinished with tons of idiotic changes? Beause I know that exists. Get some new material.
