A tale of souls and swords, eternally retold...

Thx, some of them (like Anubis below or Mummymitsu) are even dead sick !
To be or not to be ;o)

thanks, but somehow there is something i can improve on this CAS to give it more soul (for a robot, yeah, i know ;o), but at least i got a decent use for this menghu helmet i did not know what to do with...
i realized the green fluo circle does not glow as much as i wanted in the dark, but it is more robotic than red.

Since the quizz went unanswered, the answer to the quizz is : the sun sticker (golden face), which has bump mapping properties that look fine on the face mask (the one i used for mayan king)...

My Adam Jensen.
First things first : credits to LordDraco for giving me the idea and for a solid first attempt.

Being a huge fan of the game since the beginning of the series, I did not make one Adam but two :

Special Quizz for Lord Draco (not having much success with them lately, *sigh*) : notice the googles on the post augmented version, how did i make them (hint : i used 3 stickers, one special equ only / same question for the augmented arms (2 stickers)

Doing those 2, i stumbled upon a useful bug using the coat, my undergarment disappeared to reveal the skin, which was exactly what i wanted for the pre-augmentation Adam !
I also preferred the regent over the alternate haircut (to be seen in one of the in-game pics though) because it makes the face look thinner and larger, and simply looks a lot better from the side.

I'll post my Thumbnail for you as a bonus pic as soon as i get your comments / answer ;o)

Yes, the post-augmentation version’s suit is a solid step forward from LordDraco’s original (of course props to him for forging the way). The head / goggles are good, I wouldn’t say better or worse than LordDraco’s, just a nice alternative.

Thank you guys...as for which is better, my intention was of course to improve on his design (what would the point in doing something subpar), and i am pretty glad of the result.

Like Gabe, I do think it is a step forward in many aspects, but this is for LordDraco to judge. He should have the honor when he is back, especially about the head which is very different in its build ;o)

I think he looks fantastic as hell! I am squinting trying to see all the details, unfortunately. It's such a shame that such a good creator is stuck with the 360's lack of good screenshot technology. You never asked for this.

Your pics look good, it's just really hard to make out exact details, I'll need to take myself to the drawing board for clarification. I think I see pocket stickers on his arms, but again it's difficult to make out. I can't figure out his aug glasses at the moment. Using that wrinkled face paint is great, I'm definitely adding that. Regent hairstyle is an interesting choice, again couldn't say better or not, just 'different,' though not a bad choice. The gloves were something I strictly wanted to avoid as his augmented hands are extremely sleek and skinny, and gloves just bulk them up. But if you don't have enough stickers to cover down to his hands, they are an understandable evil.

Adam apparently looks wicked awesome in this game, so I'll fiddle with mine and see what comes up :)

Thanks Draco, your "fantastic as hell" means a lot to me.

About your comment, I have no problem removing the gauntlets by the way, since, so i'll probably do that on the post-aug version, the unitard being honeycomb textured it looks good, though not 3D or bumpmapped of course.
I'll try removing them and see if that is better, since it was my original choice...On the pre-augm, he has gauntlets ;o)

I feel you about the 360, when i look at you guys PS3 screen captures, i am a bit jealous, so imagine your jaw dropping if you got all my CAS in full HD glory lol...
Instead, i put a lot of effort into capturing in-game screenshots, which i think look pristine and gritty / photorealistic - which is the art direction i want all my CAS to go (even an alien space marine ;o)

Only in-game screenshots do the CAS justice, and are the only way to see if a CAS fits well into the game or not.
Is it possible to do on the PS3 ?

Ok, i will help you for the quizz then, since you tried hard, squinting your eyes and all ;o)
This will allow me to reveal the thinking outside the box behind this difficult CAS endeavour...admittedly, all Sci-Fi CAS are pretty hard to pull off, since none of the equipement at hand is Sci-Fi oriented !

- Arms : no pocket stickers, sun stickers painted black, and painfully positioned so the eyes look at bit like the joints and bolts...i gave you a hint in your thread remember ? ;o)
- Face paint (glad you saw that)
- Rest of the face : googles = snake horns reversed and painstakingly resized, tilted, etc. (gives the proper honeycomb effect, and bump mapped, if you get me). In the alternate, i use the glasses on top, with honeycomb pattern on the glasses, but without it, looks just as good if not better.

The advantage of using the snake horns is that it is perfectly dark, shiny as the original, and no angle issue (meaning no skin / eyes seen underneath from angles)

Under the goggles, you notice the two eye augmentation "antennas" like in your reference picture, for this i used a sticker (vert. reversed bat sticker), cropped to minimum size...because it extends over the upper part of the face and ears, i used the 2 remaining face stickers (one left for the scar) to cover it up with a simple japanese tatoo and a moon sticker to get the right curve (meaning to avoir erasing the antennas).

If that is not being a bit twisted, what is it ? ;o)

End of Wall of Text

Ahh, suns, of course! I can see them now that you pointed it out.

The honeycomb texture does look cool, but I'm not personally a fan of using it for his eyes. On mine, we used the cow pattern at minimum size, and made bright orange for the base color, it makes it look very reflective the way Adam's in-game eyes appear. It's not symmetrical, but glasses don't reflect in a symmetrical manner. Snake ornaments seem like a good tool though, nice and shiny. We used horns for mine ,and his lopsided head made it very difficult to place with any sort of symmetry.

Sadly the PS3's screenshots can't be used in-game, only in the editor. I'm sad that we can't change the background like in SC4, but oh well. I probably would not go to the trouble of sharing so much if I had to manually take photos ;)

You're certainly a master of fashion in the CaS department, Le Bello cannot fault you there!

And yet, some of your works just don't appeal to me.

Perhaps it's the modernisation, or the fact that some of the characters (Ghost Rider, Adam, etc) are ones I haven't experienced first-hand, but I can't bring myself to really love them.

I can see the painstaking amount of work that's gone into them, and they're certainly all considerable achievements in their own right, so Le Bello can admire them, and you, for that much at least.

Le Bello would love to give you a lovingly long love-filled list of his likes and loathes, but Le Bello has had a long and loveless day of life today, and at the moment cannot even begin to litter this letter with light alliteration or admiration.

One thing I will point out, is that I find the green and the red on Pyrobot's design garish and distracting. They sort of cancel each other out and make it look almost cartoony - especially with the lightsaber.

That said, that Kratos is AMAZING! Le Bello isn't a big GoW fan, but even I was almost inspired to copy your design and add him to my roster. The scars, paint and facial hair are spot-on spotless!

As a final note, to finalise this note, your artwork is fine and noteworthy. It has a finesse that's noticeable, even among Le Bello's circle or artistically gifted associates. Genius!

Hi guys,

What a nice day (as opposed to Le Bello's) : 16 likes in a row and a post from Le Bello (much unexpected yet eagerly awaited ;o).
Thanks to LordDraco for his explanation, the goggles sure looked a bit weird on the pics, but if they look spot-on in-game, i get you 100%...

Dear Le Bello, Touché !
I am not 100% percent satisfied with my Pyrobot (nice find with the nickname you gave her!). It is not the idea, it is the end result which i also find a tad awkward.
I expressed it in a previous post, and i won't keep it after all, freeing a slot for something more to my liking (and yours, obviously).

I have read your comments in other threads and have thoroughly enjoyed them, as i enjoyed your wits today.

Yet as you exercize your right to critique, i would also like to share my feeling : you are sometimes full of praise for creations i do not think highly of, quite the opposite, which leads me to believe our artistic taste may differ somehow.

Again, there is more praise in your post than criticism, and the balance is nothing but Le Bello's perfection.
I find it somehow charming, precisely because you have this slight tendency to (admittedly very elaborate) flagornery...no risk on my end to overrate your command of the english though, which is leaps and bounds above mine.

Whenever your mood is better, i would like you to elaborate on what effect do my CAS have on your psyche, what exactly is subject to love or loathe in my roster. In return, i'd be happy to oblige if you need answers on artistic direction, design choices, artwork, technique...

Yes, there is attention to detail, yes, there is soul and research, trial and error with a clunky and uncomfortable editor, but this is everyone's ordeal. I am just as demanding on others' CAS as with mine, and my Likes are sincere and rare...
so when i see somebody posting something lazy or downright ugly, begging for critique, i can sometimes be blunt, which might come as a shock right after one of your posts ;o) Sorry for that !

Last but not least, who are those artistic associates of yours, and where can i see their work ?
Please understand this is genuine interest and not irony (with me drawing and writing poems...in french ;o)

Are we talking Chobek, Red, Gabe, Draco, Murasame, Pocky... ? Or did i miss something.
I will look for your CAS as well on this forum (i know your high level of involvement in it)

As for me, everytime i feel perfect, i try to walk on water...that kind of cools my head down ;o)

Here are your bonus pics, artwork only :

Le Bello adores this entire post and shall provide a much more fitting response soon! First, Le Bello must go through your entire gallery and pick apart all your CaS's =|;}D

These are the artistic associate Le Bello meant, by the way ;D

Suffice to say Le Bello finds your enthusiasm to be invigorating, inspiring and engaging! Talking to you is fun.

It is always sad to see a good concept get deleted, such being the case with Pyrobot, but if we never get rid of things, we can never move on, probably. I'm excited to see what will come out now!

It does seem we have artistic differences, which in some ways is a positive thing - When taking aboard criticism from diverse opinions and trains of thoughts, new ways of thinking are created. As it happens though, a lot of Le Bello's critiques involve me focusing on the good of the design because, when I point out the bad, I can usually go too far, and some people find it an outright attack on their character. Le Bello has been working on this however.

Even as a child you drew better than Le Bello can right now! I suppose some people are just better, though I imagine lots of hard work has gone into it?

Thank you. Eagerly awaiting on your review on my Gallery.

I had a look at your fellow artists' work, actually i recently stumbled upon deviant art and it is definitely a very good site.
I am not so much into anime girls though, more mature art appeals to me (the kind of Madureira for instance)

(Sad) truth is, with family and job, i rarely find the energy to put a lot of work in my artworks...
on the other hand, i can draw decent sketches very quickly (like i did for Pocky Yoshi a few pages back, maybe took me 10 min from start to finish).
So unfortunately, and even if everybody tells me i have some kind of gift, my technique has not evolved a lot, set aside in the direction of realistic portraits and stuff (like the one i did for my Valentine, here the original pencil sktech as a reminder)
c343jdwn6a70jaijl.jpg

Technically it is far from perfect, and i know it could have been much better with an hour or so extra work, yet this kind of work does already require much more time (starting with nothing but a square and a grid), and it definitely has more "soul" to it, which i am sure you will notice instantly...

So...out of sheer laziness, i use every opportunity i get to create in videogames, be it worlds or characters !
Right now, i am pondering what to do out of this last slot, because i have scrapped some, and i do not feel like scrapping the cream of the crop i have kept on my HDD and backupped on the USB ;o)

Le Bello prefers the work Lozzer DOESN'T post, as her sketches are usually better. She's trying to get less anime in her work, so, improvement I say! DevART IS a good site, but it gets very VERY dramatic at times... =/

And you artwork is still astounding! Naturally there are technical flaws, but show me a perfect piece of art and I'll eat my moustache! If an artist ever becomes too satisfied, then the point of them being an artist is moot.

But Le Bello has all the drawing ability of a five year old blind amputee rock, and so I too use videogames as a creative outlet, particularly character creation modes. The day Le Bello discovered Minecraft was an antisocial day indeed...

Your last CaS shot should surely be a tribute to Le Bello! =|;}D But I digress, I look forward to posting my review of your gallery, possibly more than you look forward to it. Possibly. Probably. Maybe not?

...Well, from you, master in the art of being prolix yet not verbose, i am expecting at least a 4 volume compendium - review (considering the amount of CAS i have posted on this forum ;o)

I see your challenge. Ok, some rules:

Define the length of a volume. (Realistically)
Choose your preferred format (though I'll ignore this and use MSOffice).
Present an appropriate prize for completion of said compendium.

If these three things satisfy, then Le Bello shall accept your challenge and present a four-volume compendium related to you Create a Souls.
