Fu-ma's Shadow
I have more info but didn't want to fill the Roster Speculation Thread with the arguments this will inevitably create once more. So I'm offloading it to its own topic.
Here, I'm arguing Lizardman's inclusion in Soulcalibur VI's roster, as there is a growing contingent of fans have been arguing that the Lizardman, as in Aeon Calcos, won't be in the game and would just be a story-exclusive CAS character. Here's how he's favored.
For one, I greatly increased the size of the image to allow a closer look at Lizardman featured in the artwork.
Let's begin.
Argument:
Lizardman holds the sword with his left hand, just as he's known to do in later games. The argument against him was that this image, which shows a custom Lizardman wielding an ax in the manner of Sophitia, suggests that the actual Lizardman isn't in, and instead his weapons were given to Sophitia as a bonus.
Except that's not it. Lizardman here is seen wielding a sword with his left hand, the exact counter-argument as to why he wouldn't be included. Furthermore, his sword larger than Sophitia's. There's no way she could use a sword that size like that. For comparison, see here and here. Yeah, there's a huge difference in their blades.
Let's go further in the styles. Sophitia's style is distinctly girly, and it doesn't even fit a male character let alone a literal mutated lizard who favors animalistic and brutal moves. I mean, I can't see Lizardman fighting like this. Furthermore, we have custom lizardmen, and it would really suck if our only shield and sword option was the girly style. Lizardman could easily differ despite having a similar base, with less girly moves and more animalistic ones such as the crawl stance, prowling, pouncing, biting, and just general brutality. You could even integrate some of his SCV Aeon moves like having him shoot fire, hell even integrate Patroklos' moves since he's not in. Oh, and Lizardman isn't exactly blessed, so it's hard to imagine him summoning electricity in his CE, and it doesn't fit at all.
Finally, let's make out his appearance in this image. The exact reason I increased the size was so that we could get a closer look despite how obscured it is. And behold what's above. It's different from his original Soulcalibur appearance, just like how everyone else got a revamp. Compare his appearance in SCI to that picture above. I can already tell the differences despite the obscurity. Just from comparing them, I can see that Lizardman is:
- Bulkier to match his later appearances.
- Has armor that's a different shape than the original (including spiky fins on his back).
- Wields his sword with his left hand matching his later appearances like how Nightmare, Yoshimitsu and Tira got their styles changed this way. Again, as I repeat.
- He (might have) red eyes based on how prominent they are (even more than Nightmare).
The arguments people have used against Lizardman are (with my answer next to it):
- Having the lizardman as a selectable race makes him non-unique and redundant. Because Aeon and the generic lizardmen totally haven't co-existed in the lore or anything.
- Having another shield and sword user would be too much, and lower Cassandra's chances. Because we totally never had 3 S&S users that are distinct before...
- He has no real role in the story and could easily be cut. He's kind of one of Nightmare's top followers alongside Ivy and Astaroth and has been portrayed as such in official art promoting the game.
- He's not popular enough to justify putting in the game. Well, he's kind of a series staple and liked because he's the Lizardman. If you combine his votes in the popularity poll with Aeon (both being the exact same character with separate styles), he would have 128 votes. Just below Astaroth.
- His gameplay can be easily filled by Sophitia, and the custom race can easily take his place. Uh yeah, I can totally see a fearsome lizard monster fighting like a girl.
Now, for all you people so convinced that he's not in after reading all of this, make your argument and make it count.
