Character Graph Data

I always wondered, why does Ivy have a complexity rating of 4/10? lol

Someone better explain this (camera zoom on Hyrul)

Yeah, well those ratings have little to do with how things look now, but they can still be entertaining to read, eg

Viola

Damage: 4/10

XD
Yeah well I did disagree pretty strongly with what a lot of the others said. In fact there were a number of disagreements all round. Mostly the JAG DAG and KAG family agreed with each other. In the end we just did the stats for the characters that we wrote the guide section for.

For Viola you can pin the blame at me :D It was tough to approach it because she is simultaneously extremely good and extremely bad at many things. E.g. range, her little arms offer pathetic range for her to claw at her opponents, yet she can also use her orb to hit her opponent at any range. So she has both range 1 and range 10. Similarly, her chip damage is really very small, yet in combination with the orb she is one of the most damaging characters in the game.

But it seemed pointless to just give everything a middling value, because that would have had even less meaning.

I really liked the approach you (i bet you wrote the tira part?) took with tira of having data for both JS and GS. Maybe it would've been a possibility to went with something similar for viola.

Yeah I did that for Tira, with Viola it was just more awkward though. I was gonna mention this before but then couldn't be bothered haha, guess I should've!

E.g. you can't really say Viola does low damage and Orb does high damage. And what do I say, that Viola has low complexity and Orb has high complexity? What about oki? And does Viola have good mix-ups, and the orb have none (because it can't hit Low)? Not really, because Viola's mix-ups only work in conjunction with the orb. Etc etc etc...

Do you remember specifically who worked on the character guides ? I can imagine Dag wrote the guide for Omega, Pyrrha... Jag for Asta, Maxi.. Panto for Siegfried but what about the others?

It would be interesting to create such character data now, since most of the stuff is already known.

Many people were able to do the same characters so we split them up into primary and secondary.

From what I remember, primary characters:

Dag: Pyrrha Ω, Pat, Dampierre, Raphael
JAG: Maxi, Cervantes
Kerrigan: ZWEI, Natsu
Panto: Nightmare, Siegfried, Aeon
Saitoh: Asta, Mitsu, Yoshi
Hayate: Ivy
Bruce: Ezio, Algol, Xiba
Wil: Pyrrha, Voldo, Hilde
Me: Leixia, Tira, Viola

The amount of coverage by each player varied greatly, depending on time each had available to dedicate to the guide. For example, Xiba was practically shared by Bruce and Hayate (Hayate joined the project near the end). I added a lot to Natsu but contributed only a little to Sieg and NM, mainly focusing on editing Panto's docs. Saitoh and JAG naturally contributed a great deal each to Maxi and Astaroth. Dag had a hand writing for many characters including Algol, ZWEI and Aeon. Panto contributed a lot to Raph, while I believe α Pat was written by Kerrigan, Wil and Dag. Testiskulls also contributed a lot to Devil Jin before he was completed by Dag.

I added the list with subtracted complexity values to my post.

I found it to be interesting, that mitsu is kinda in the midfield on both lists. IIRC his great strength wasn't as apparent prior to 1.02, probably due to the amount of nonsense going on.

Edit: Same for pyrrha.

Mitsu did go under the radar a bit, it's true. I think it was only when Akire heard about his frame data that he realised just how strong this character is.

I whined and complained about Pyrrha all the way through the writing process, much to the chagrin of the others, especially Wil and Dag (who both put up with it pretty damn well). But I think we all felt she was pretty strong without being top.

Btw I have to mention Ash/Iron Lobstar as well, who wrote all the initial stuff for Ivy before Hayate came in to complete it.

He must have received a huge damage buff in patches after the book was done.

A 6/10 damage rating for mitsurugi currently would be laughable considering that is the same damage rating for raphael.

Oh but the guide is based on version 1.01. So the only stuff not considered (so far) is patch 1.02 and 1.03 and we have the changelog for those.

But yeah the evaluation for mitsu seems a little bit humble, while raphs seems quite generous. Anyhow those graphs from the guide are just meant as a quick overview, don't take that too serious. The real nitty gritty stuff, lies in the guides in-depth analysis for each char. Graphs always have their limitations in order to remain transparency.
For example, for raph the most tremendous drawback is his weakness to being stepped but of course their is no value for something like that.

PS: Sieg would have looked much stronger if they would have included Manliness, 3B Spamability and Swag to the comparison (of course he would be 10/10 in all of those).
