Defecting SC players

Don't get me wrong. I still play this game. It's just that I wish things were different is all. I've accepted the changes, even embraced them, but that doesn't mean I have to like them. I wouldn't even say that the new mechanics are bad, it's just that I preferred the older ones.

I think my favorite thing about sc5, honestly, is the AI. No it's not quite like a human, it damn sure beats any AI that came before it. (I can't speak for BD though because I never played it, but from what I hear the AI was pretty good).

And if you're wondering why I don't play online, all I gotta say is CLEARWIRE IS A POS :)

Anyways, SC5 is a well designed, well thought out game that rubs people the wrong way. TTT2 is the same old shit but with a dollop of whipped cream on top of that shit. More people will play TTT2, but people who took more than 5 minutes and removed their nostalgia goggles respect SC5 a hell of alot more, just like 3rd strike before it in the 2d realm.
I have always said that people hate change. In this case, it was in many aspects. However, I hated the fact that the movesets were simplified, but I think of it all as something that will probably improve in the future.

But fighting games seem to suffer from this "On nostalgia's balls" syndrome that people seem to be diagnosed with.
SF suffered this one so many times with SF: The Movie (horrible game I would say), SFEX, AND SF3.

MK suffered with MK:4-Armageddon. Hence why everyone hates the newer characters, except Kenshi of course., or the more important characters like Quan Chi and Shinnok.

Tekken did suffer this before with Tekken 3, and from what I hear, people complained about Kazuya and Jun not being in it. Must have been why Kazuya returned.

I agree with Azazel too. I don't so much consider the game a failure either per say, it just was very disappointing to a certain extent. And I agree, not everyone cares about all the technical stuff of what made the previous games "horrible". People didn't mind so what's the problem there? And I'm sure the competitive players will blame it on the casuals who could care less with the technical stuff. If a game is fun, it is fun. But this is just me. I mean, I play a lot of fighting games from the popular ones like Tekken, Soul Calibur, and a small amount of DOA (at least till 5 comes out lol) and I play more of the "sleeper" titles like Virtua Fighter, Bloody Roar, and many others. I'm a 3D Fighting gasme junkie so I'll play whatever lol. And I could care less about the technical stuff unless the game truly had a bad gameplay style.

The damage was unbelievable. It was like a slap in the face and a kick in the nads to all of us. All our mains were taken away and replaced with water downed versions of them, or so some say. If only they were brought back as character skins. But the damage has been indeed done. We can only hope for PS to fix some of this.

Well I finally got my toaster back from the shop, but my data got corrupted so I had to start a whole new SCV file on it.
SCV was my first soul calibur. And I loved it when I first played it, probably because I didn't know better. I'm happy to go back to it now that I have a working toaster. In the eyes of someone who doesn't really know much about the franchise from a gameplay standpoint, it's pretty solid.
But going back to it after being on here a while has left its mark though. Becoming a semi-competent player is one of the perks but I suppose the more significant thing is actually noticing what's going on from a gameplay perspective. The damage is bananas, a lot of characters don't have a whole lot of effective variety in their moves, hell a lot of the characters themselves are really uninteresting from a story standpoint. And noticing these things has kind of soured the experience for me.
I've never been online either, but from what I garner here it's primarily CAS circlejerks and salt, with a few competent players every so often. As someone who doesn't fall into either of those parties, it's distressing that the middle ground seems like a hilarious minority. But anonymity and an audience does that to people so eh. I'm not even gonna get into the lack of single player content.
In short, it's like a cake covered in fondant. Really pretty on the outside, but pretty much unpalatable after the first few bites. Right now I play it because I don't have much else. Don't get me wrong, I still like it, it just doesn't have the same magnetism to me that it did before.

Project Soul would've gave out a well-designed game if Namco hasn't thwarted them with very little time.

-3/4 of the story weren't included in the game.
-3 mimic characters were added.
-Zasalamel, Talim, perhaps Bangoo were absent.
-Maybe more modes were to be added.

These are also well-thought off but the designs couldn't be executed. The only well-design aspect executed are both gameplay and online. To me it would've been overall well-designed if there's a balance of satisfcation btwn competitive players and casual players.

I'll remember to complain next time the most vital part of a game is good but the game isn't filled with gimmicky fluff. Or maybe the opposite(Lol @ console version of SCIII) *reaches out for goggles*

Game mechanics is not perfect I'm aware of that but for the most part the design aspect is solid and I'm only referring to SC5.

darkwing13 is right, why fix what isnt broken? And just cause a developer says sc1-sc4 is fatally flawed, doesnt mean its true, its all subjective. How many people here play Tekken or Dead or Alive? both games have good qualities. The creator of Dead or Alive thinks Tekken is a piece of crap. If he had a shot to "fix" Tekken he would implement DoA features to make the game "better" but would that game still be Tekken? Dashi was producer of SC5 but we all know he has roots in Street Fighter 3. I played SC4 everyday and he didnt fix the flaws in SC4, instead he implemented his SF3 features . It changes the game. SC2 sold well here in the U.S.A. It was on PS2, XBox & GameCube. I know the GameCube version sold the most due to Link, and i bought the GameCube & XBox version. It sold least on the PS2 but SC3 was a PS2 exclusive. If SC3 didnt sell as well as SC2, it had nothing to do with "flawed" gameplay. And the arcade scene is tiny compared to the past so not all games get an arcade version. and dam-I-Suck is right about the game being too simpified. I mained Cassandra and Voldo in SC4 and it was fun using everymove the character has. Dashi's changes means that its faster to get to the end of the match and get the win but i remember the fun part being the fighting. If a combo can take away about half of a persons life bar then there's no incentive to use every move.

I don't think you know what subjective even means.

So let me get this straight, you think that the people who made the game have a "subjective" opinion and don't know as well as you.

This, right here kids, is the reason we can't have nice things.

lol. i think you need to look up the defintion of subjective. everyones personal view on something is subjective. Daishi's personal view about adding Street Fighters features to Soul Calibur is subjective. I can tell that your a HUGE SC5 fan but your trying to say that just because Daishi has the title of "developer" then everything he did in SC5 is right, and every arugment otherwise is ignorant. sorry but thats very naive. Also, you think CaS ruined SC5? it wasnt CaS that ruined it buddy. CaS is awesome

There are no words for how short sighted and ignorant this post is.
