Give it time to evolve. Book and comic movies are getting good. They just needed to do like a million of them and run out of original ideas first.

Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider and a few more are good conversions. You may like the movie or not, but they are somewhat loyal. I haven't watched DooM yet because I'm a purist and since the monsters don't come from Hell, I don't want to watch it.

Double Dragon and Mario, in example, were produced 14-15 years ago, when games were a cult thing and they didn't have many ideas or money to do a loyal conversion. What Uwe Boll does now is horrible, but well, he was cheating the tax system in Germany by making those movies.

Street Fighter is actually one of my favoriute movies.

Blanka was Charlie...
Street Fighter killed a great actor...

I don't see it.

My problem with the idea of being loyal is that a game is not a movie. Books turn movie adaptation were the best when they realized that the movie was not the book. Comic books turn movie adaptation were also the best when they took their own spin and interpretation of the comic book. Trying too hard to be loyal to the game will make it worse, and often cheesy.

i was thinking about that, too. the problem is that the main audience for those movies would be ppl who have played the games. they know the story already inside out and it would be pointless to just copy the storyline for the movie. nobody would want to see it anymore because it's known already. makes sense, no??

Yes it does make sense and I agree to a certain extent, however, while most of the audience would be fans of the series I still think it would be a good idea to just simply follow the story and possibly add a few minor changes. ( unlike creating a random new hero/heroin for the series* cough Alice cough*) Movies that come from books always do this, and while you always here "The movie is not as good as the book" films such as the count of monte cristo still get a high approval. I still think, to this day that the Silent Hill movie was the best video game movie to date. Very little was tampered with, story line wise and the fact that they made a woman the main character instead of a man made a bit of sense. you know the whole mothers bond to her child kinda thing...

Silent Hill has been the only video game turned movie that I truly enjoyed.
Shame it lacked that fear the games induce.

Most video game to movies are cheesy as hell and maybe it is cause video games are still a young medium and with time they will adapt and learn the secrets to success.

I'd like to see a Kill Bill video game; because that movie was structured like one; going from one locale to another to 'boss fight'. If you see what I mean.

I do believe video game movies will one day be legitimate entertainment, but I think that time is a ways off. I'm not holding out much hope for this upcoming Tekken movie. -_-

Yeah I do see them being good eventually.
It just shocks me that they are already. I mean I guess since I don't know the first thing about making a movie from the ground up and all...but like honestly do some of these directors look at the movies when its done and scream with there fist raised in the air " It is BRILLIANT!"

It seems like Uwe Boll wont leave game movies the fuck alone.

I also curse Paul w.s. Anderson for Resident Evil.

First film was okay, albeit slightly irritating, second film was a travesty, and the third one was better - but that doesn't mean it was great; it just had little to compete with.

Judging from the actors of Tekken it's going to be either really good or reallllly bad. I personally think DBZ is going to be a an hour and half of me with palm in face...anybody else get that feeling?

I liked the Tomb Raider movies- didn't care for the plot, but they were decent mindless-fun-type action movies.

Saw parts of the first two RE movies. I appreciated the second more because it actually included Jill, Carlos and Nemesis. The first, they just said, "let's make a zombie movie and call the city Raccoon City. Now let's call it Resident Evil." I refuse to see the third simply because they cast Ali Larter as Claire.

Street Fighter is a total classic. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It is classic.

this is the best video movie EVER
might as well close the thread now

okay so its a clip, but who cares, but its better than the other street fighter live action movie.

I once went into a huge rant about this in another forum and I can't stress it enough that I am very disappointed in these movies.

Resident Evil - Ugh....who the %$#@ is Alice in the game?!!?!? I mean seriously, wtf. Jill was a bitch in part two and didn't get much spot light as she should. Claire....I didn't go as far as to seeing part three,#2 was disgusting.
DOA - Didn't bother to see it....the trailer almost made me shoot myself.

And now they're going to destroy my childhood anime...Dragon Ball Z.
I swear,it really makes me angry that they butcher EVERYTHING on the original story and try to think of stupid ways to make the viewers enjoy it. Yes,I understand that not a lot of people play video games and just watch movies because it's cool and yaddi yadda, but for christ sakes, some of us grew up with these things, and to see them butcher it all up like they do is just disturbing and disappointing all together....

But I guess on a bright note,I DID enjoy the graphics of Silent Hill,RIDICULOUS acting and mediocre of a story line, but bravo to the graphics. I've yet to see Hitman and the first MK movie & Tomb Raider was good. IMO

in DOA Ryu was playing with NUNCHUKS......that ruined it for me, well that + the "show off the babes" theme...

The dbz movie is a 2 hour parody o hollywood "hardworking" writers XD

i've seen all those movies already. the best ones so far imo:

postal
hitman
tomb raider 1+2
resident evil 3

Silent Hill was decent, i enjoyed it over other game movies thats for sure. Resident evil, yeah it could have been better if they stuck with the main storyline, but added tweaks. Seeing the same story over isn't always that bad, because hey, thats what made the game in the first place. For example, I wouldn't mind a resident evil movie that retold Jill's adventure in RE3. But thats just me. Of course they can add in new scenes n stuff to replace some puzzle scenes n stuff, but just stay true to the main storyline for once. with all the badassness Jill had, and the Star member craved nemesis, yeah it would be golden for me.

now, with all these bad movies aside, if there is one game i MUST have hope for, it HAS to be the Warcraft movie. it seems like they are actually putting time into it, and not rushing it in any way possible. Though it is too early to determine anything yet, i have a good feeling that this may make the video game to movie jump. Specially since Blizzard has a humongous fanbase off of WoW, I'm pretty sure they won't try to fuck this one up. They even mentioned this on their Show panels at blizzcon n stuff, that they are sticking to the main storyline. Being how diverse the warcraft storyline is, i have faith in it.
No, i don't play WoW or anything. but those countless months i've played on ladder for wc3 were fun times. It was the shiet climbing that ladder.

What I saw of DOA is that it kind of looked like Charlie's Angels, only much much worse. I didn't conceive such a concept until I saw that trailer.

I don't understand why people would try a live action DBZ movie. The world is not ready to try that seriously.

Hollywood should make as many live-action movies based on games & anime as possible, so I have stuff to watch for the lulz.

LOL:

New Street Fighter movie coming up... LOL
Tekken movie coming up... LOL
SC movie coming up... LOL
Did that rumored 3rd MK movie ever come out? If it ever does... LOL
MGS movie coming up? It better fucking not be.
DBZ coming up... LOL
Haven't seen Speed Racer yet, but the trailers look full of LOL and fail too.

Gungrave is the only good (read: godly) game > anime adaptation.

Unless meant for "lulz", it is a tremendous waste. I do agree that when they get as bad as Street Fighter, that is its own appeal.

Hey whitey did u get that from AVGN's best of Jackie Chan fights? Because i think you did
