Hardest game ever

I could do the same with Legend of Zelda II (pretty easy with all the extra lives around, IMO).

Maybe you can, but it is still the hardest Zelda (The Adventures of Link) in the series, and in combat gameplay-wise is just better than all other Zelda today, if you got two enemies surrounding you things gets pretty rough, and it wasn't always that hard but is just more thrilling to fight when you have that many openings to defend, unlike today's all-purpose-one-button guard/shield, that makes things so easy that it defeats the purpose of using other added action like jumps/dodges. Twilight Princess is the easiest, great cinema sequences but linearly easy. The first Zelda is the 2nd hardest for the fact that you have no clue of what you should do next, and that's what all the new Zelda are lacking, that element of mystery and self-exploration. The only recent game that have those gameplay senses of mystery are Ico and "Shadow Of The Colossus", specially SOTC, it almost felt like playing Zelda II again, it felt more Zelda than the recent Zelda games.
Ohh, and I forgot, Zelda II has the biggest Hyrule ever in any Zelda game.

Recently, Dead Space (playing in on a low def TV FTL :(). I died i think about 73 to 90 ++ times on hard mode the first time around.

From memory, hmmm ill have to think about that.

Depends on the era. I'd say...

NES - Mega Man. I got farther in Battletoads than I ever did in Mega Man.
Genesis - Kid Chameleon (although, I never really tried to beat this, I just hunted the Samurai suit and went to town)
SNES - Not much was hard here... I guess Super Star Wars
PS1 - Funny how these games got easier as time went on... Parasite Eve for this one (specifically the Chrysler Building)
PS2 - Toss up between God of War and Devil May Cry. Both asked me numerous times if I wanted to switch to Easy mode (but I never did!)
360 - Ninja Gaiden 2, hands down. Normal mode was tough, but Mentor mode is stupid hard.

EDIT - Almost forgot...
GameCube - Viewtiful Joe. Still one of the few games I never finished.

I agree, my favorite Zelda also. It's probably the only one that I would still play today. And yeah, I guess you're right. All the Zelda's now are about puzzles and figuring out the bosses one weakness, not really the combat.

Man that brought back memories. In the beginning when the rat mutated, scared the shit out of me ;P

How about Legends Road or whatever it's called on DDR? Or One Winged Angel, good luck with that. I cant even do it using Step Mania.

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. It wasn't THE hardest game ever, but it's waaaay up on the list. But I love it, I'll still play it today if I ever get a new PS2. It was a beautiful game waaay ahead of its time, that Final Fantasy series is only now finally catching on to in quality. It's one of the few games where you WILL die at least once your first time through, no matter what you do, not by design, but by the mistakes that you're bound to make, since literally every step in the game you take added to your death countdown. But also, it was alot of fun and very creative. Even Dead Rising ripped off its continue system from it (since many of the same team members created both games).

Plus, it was the only game that made a friggin fun STOCK MARKET minigame that was addictive. Yes, like the Dow jones kind of stock market

Oh, and Shinobi was THE GAME!!! I love that game, and (almost as much) the sequal, Nightshade/Kunoichi

i cant see why some found ninja gaiden 1 and 2 for the NES to be hard, but then again, my friend said he thought ninja gaiden 3 was easier and he couldnt beat the first two, while i couldnt beat the third.

lmao @ that asshole mario vid

the game with all the billion bullets comming at you looks like the hardest

for me personally the most annoying game recent is codWaW on hard mode, endless nades......

hardest ever would be castlevania

TMNT was bullshit. I spent countless hours trying to get into that technodrome only to die once i got in. You pretty much had to use those uber special weapons(i dont know what they were but it looked like moon slashes when u threw them) during the whole damn stage. So if i didn't have all four turtles maxed out with that, then i quit and started over. The game was still a lot of fun though, i had that swiming stage down to a science! Never did clear that though.

Double Dragon 3 was pretty tough for a while at least. Took me quite a few tries to be able to deal with those 3 mummies and that egyptian goddess at the end. That bitch was broke as fuck!

Karnov was hard for a while, last couple of bosses on that game were very tough.

Anyone remember Equinox on SNES? That game was hard because it was very tough to properly judge jumping and moving through traps on that game's 3D plane. Another game i never beat, although i never owned it. I only rented it a couple of times.

For me, its tekken 5 on the hardest difficulty. I mean, lets just completely ignore the fact that christie is completely fucking over-powered and go straight to the fact that fighting Jinpachi on EASY is a task within itself due to the fact that he knows everything you're going to do, and how to defend, before you even know you're going to do it.

Oh, did I mention he can kill you with one move usually?

My nomination? Any Touhou game on Lunatic difficulty. I mean, it's just...insanity! Pretty-lookin', but...insanity!

Here's the last stage of the latest Touhou game on Lunatic

I've seen I Want To Be The Guy in action and uh... that game is just tasteless humor. I mean, it's one thing for a game to be hard, but it's another for a game to be humiliatingly frustrating. You almost get the feeling that the game is laughing at your lack of insight to their cheap tricks. At least when you graze through Lunatic spell cards in Touhou, you can sort of see where you should have been before you got hit, and there's some glimmer of hope that lets you know "I CAN beat this!" that prevents you from ever putting down the controller.

Maybe there are things more impossible, but it seemed to me that the Mission Mode in GGXX was rough(maybe 5-10 of them anyway). Here's baiken; your combo damage is gimped; fight 1-hit kill gold Johnny(Sadly that wasnt really one of the hardest either). Some of those would've been hard to win straight up even with the infinite retries, but many included obscenely short time limits to boot.

Also in Allied General for the PS1 the 1939 Russian campaign was brutal. Mission after mission of being outnumbered and outgunned and given unrealistic objectives. I think the game was messed up because after a number of grueling play-throughs and heavy abuse of AI weaknesses I managed to meet the requirements to win the Moscow '41 scenerio, but still got game-overed.

I noticed that Devil May Cry was listed a couple times above and I have to say that new difficulty they added in DMC4 "Hell or Hell" could've been much harder. You'd think dying in one hit while you're enemies don't sounds bad, but since they have the AI, HP and are as easy to stun as the normal difficulty counterparts it's not at all. After all, you'd already had to turn all the game mechanics to the fullest in your favor to beat Dante Must Die.

/edit/ Just watching that video above makes me want to throw a controller. Whoever made that game is inhumane.

NES Dragon's Lair.

Lol FUCK THAT FUCKING GAME. But this game was just bad. I mean broken Bad!!!!!

Heres a vid

OK
Street Fighter 2010(nes) was decent
Ikaruga(GC,XBLZ) was pretty hard. (Made it to level 4 before game got jacked)
BattleToads(NES) was way harder

But did anyone play Fighting Mania? (Fist of the north star arcade game by Konami)?
I almost beat the mother fucker too. I got Kenshiro down to one hit then bam I didnt punch the pad hard enough Game OVER. Ive Never played a game based on how long you can keep your arms from going numb. What was really funny was watching random people put a dollar in the machine select the hardest mode and die in ten seconds or faster (I swear thats how fast it was) then you dont get a continue, and your just out a dollar.

Also who remebers Nightmare mode on Doom 2? Hurray U killed the Cyber Demon, here comes another one! FUCK!

I agree with this. Some of the characters styles in GG just didn't click with me, and then you are forced to do insane things in some of the missions. My favorite, although really easy, is when you get to use Millia against Zato since it plays Still In The Dark.

You can beat I Want to Be the Guy. But what you just listed is what makes it the HARDEST game ever. Tasteless or not, it is the WORST for a person with high blood pressure to subject themselves to.
