How important is a:B+K?

Assuming 3B is your starter:

If you're near an edge, a:B+K is essential.
If you're not near an edge, you can get by with 33B B+K into a decent wake position. DNK and 6K is also viable here.

That's (:4::A::A::A::A::A:) actually what I've mainly been using just because it's so easy. It does slightly more damage but it generally doesn't land them in favorable positions (at least for me). I've also tried :6::K: which generally works out well but it seems like there must be a better option I'm missing.

:3::3::B::B::+::K:, I'll give that one a try.

first, why do you have to play without a:B+K? If ur using a controller just assign the B+K to one of the right bumpers and then just practice it for about 4-5 minutes of clicking between a and the B+K assigned button quickly. That being said, 4A series is not a very good choice unless you can pull of a jf of the series becuase otherwise its easy to air control out of and you lose most if not all of your wake-up game. Hell, usually just hitting aa would be better than a poorly done non-jf 4A series. Don't knock too hard on the 6k though, because it really does do high damage for the difficultly of it. And you get decent wake from it too. I tend to use 33BB+K if I am not near an edge, especially if the opponent tends to oki left to avoid a 66B after a:B+K. For ringout though, if you somehow can't do ear slicer (a:B+K) for some reason and also can't land the jf version of 4A, then it might be time to try a go at 44bB, which moves you a pretty far distance and can even be added to either a 4A jf series or a:b+K for additional ringout distance. Yea...so in short if you really really can't do a:B+K, then for ringouts practice and learn 44bB and for damage either stick with 6K (if you know they don't tend to air control then you can stick on the extra K, but usually its better to just wait for wake-up game) or use 33BB+K. And when using 33BB+K, you need to try and hit them when they are really low on thier fall, otherwise the B=K can be air controlled out of pretty easily.

In other words, Like Hajime said in a previous discussion, if you have the timing for the 4A JF series down then by all means. If not, then do what you know is the next best option I.E. a:B+K. But don't disregard 4A JF. No one is perfect, and you don't have to be with 4A series. Taking risks is a part of what it means to play Yoshi. Just don't overdo it lol. Regardless of whether or not you mess it up, If you're good at it then KEEP doing it. Don't ignore the human element and try to play completely safe.

Edit: Not sure if that quote is correct word for word but you get the idea lol.

The reason I have to learn to play w/o :aB::+::K: is because the best local place I have for competition doesn't allow alternate controller setups for "serious" matches. It doesn't really matter for my main two characters but I feel like my Yoshi loses allot because of it (not that he was all that great to being with). I've been dealing with it and I find the only thing I absolutely can't do is :aB::+::K: and I mean not ever, like not even by luck once in training mode. Thus I've been looking for alternate options. Anyway :4::4::bB: is something I never ever would have thought of I'll have to see how that works out.

I'm at the point where I can JF at least the first two every time and JF the whole thing about 20-25% but I don't think that's nearly good enough and it gets worse if I have to move to an HD tv.

Although I play on stick, I did play on 360 quite well with a controller. No binds. I did a:B+K as follows. My index finger would hit a and my middle and ring fingers would hit B+K simultaneously. Which is the same way you'd have to do it on a stick. Try that out and see if it helps. Also, depending on whether or not you are open to the idea of spending at least a month's worth of learning curve you should invest in a stick. Button binding is no longer necessary on a stick. It's all about preference in the end. If a controller is your forte then it's all good. :)

Very important in my game

For it's speed, range and damage on CH, it can't be beat. Has TC frames in it as well, very useful in punishment games.

I'll have to try that myself, I usually try to slide my thumb on the PS3 controller over to :B::K:...and this is really a move I'd like to implement into my yoshi game but it really is tough to consistenly pull off.

Thanks for the advice, PoDFDorya. I've been giving that a try and it seems to work well enough (about 90% success).

I use a controller, and I use both thumbs to execute this move. I usually pop them up with 3B or 3A:B, then I quickly use my left thumb to hit A, then my right to hit B+K, I find that it works very well.

Dude ? 4A's series is not near as practical as a:B+K, 6K or 33B, B+K....

I also found out this weekend recovering from the 4A' just frames is totally random... Although I have found you have a greater chance of recovering if you hit them with the 4A's in the air, on CH, or as he is just getting finishes saying Great Fortune or whatever he says after you hit them... If you do it too late he will fall...

For the most part it is random but your chances increase of recovering if you do the three things I listed...

Also I can hold back the whole time, I can hit 5a's and recover I can hit 6A's and still recover... This thing is random so its good to throw every now and then but your much better off trying to work 44BB into your juggles then 4A's JF's...

holla!

i hit CH a:B+K 2a:B launch on someone last week, just kinda half assin the input on 2a:B. It was absolutely hillarious.

LOL nice, that is easy to hit though. Try iMCF, RCC 2A+BB, 66 INT K, a:B+K, DNK, 3B in a match. That shit is SEXY. ;)
