With man series games, there seems to be a 2-4 between each one. When will they announce SCVI? Only time will tell. I just hope that they put more time and effort with the next game.

I think that Soul Calibur V is a nice refresh for the series, but I think that the time to improve upon the this game's mechanics is near. Maybe the "Unbreakable Soul" could be the proper update we're looking for.

My main complaint with this game is that replay-ability is a bit lacking, especially the single-player modes. Maybe the multi-player modes could use more variety as well. How about special versus, team battles, and mini games. Most of SCV's replay value lies in character customization, battling other players, and honing your skills.

But the content is lackluster compared to earlier installments. The stuff applied to SCV is a great start, but I want more.

Yes.

Looking at this community, and seeing how other fighting games are much more popular than SC5, it's about time we get a new one. I only see things going downhill for SC unless we get something new.

As far as 3d fighters go SC5 is probably the most popular one right now. If you're trying to compare it to 2d like SF and mahvel, no 3d's are anywhere near their numbers. But lets just ignore the fact we're 2 years into this game and still at tournaments. Its ded :/

I have to agree with the OP. This game lacks in variety/content and good replay value. Shortly the game just died out quicker just by only a couple of months than any other SC game I've known.

I'm kind of "yes and no" on this. Yes, because this game severely lacks variety in several things. No, because I recently learning another Hilde (considering that Mina is not in this game and I hate Xiba). Although SCV is considered one the best games in the series, I do get bored of this game sometimes since it's just as dead as Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on Xbox.

Poll speaks for itself. How many times are we going to have this thread? FR17 was freaking hype for Calibur. It's not dying soon. Lock and delete or something.

If you want to discuss this same topic that has been done so many times, necro-post in one of the bajillion other threads with this exact same theme. Just look around in a couple forums and you'll find one.

James, I understand you are quite active on these boards with posting, and I hate to be the guy that crushes someone's enthusiasm, but you post way too many threads that rehash old stuff. I don't want to dampen your spirit, but please use that spirit to do more reading of stuff that's already posted rather than cranking out tons of posts. On page 3 of the casual forums, you have literally 5 threads all in a row. It looks like chibi Megaman is the mascot for the Soul Calibur casual forum. I really don't mind if you post a lot--posting is good--but don't throw up so many new threads or redundant polls.

You can take this as just friendly advice, as I won't pretend I'm some kind of moderator or any real authority figure. Just a concerned member.

These days I would rather see something completely new than sequel after sequel. The same thing goes for movies as well.

I'm not saying I'm sick of new caliburs, but just surprised that no one else has made another 3d WEAPONS BASED fighter.

I would be interested in a fencing game that uses realistic physics and moves, a game where you can put together your own move lists by assigning commands and selecting from hundreds and hundreds of existing moves.

I'm ready for something different. TBH I think the fighting genre as a whole is a bit stale. I don't wanna see a new fighting game with the same type of mechanics from a 1995 game.

But mostly, I think the real problem is the fact that the target demographic for the FG market is older gamers who are old school and started off playing FG's from the 1990's, who mostly want the same tried and true formula. There aren't enough newcomers or young gamers who like fighting games for them to want to take a risk on a totally fresh idea.

Quite simply, the reason they aren't popular like FPS is because they haven't evolved much at all in 20 years, which I blame on the old school gamers who insist game after game that things must be like they always were.

Young gamers these days have no interest in mastering double quarter circles or dragon punch motions because they simply are far too obtuse for the average gamer, a fact that veteran FG players have mostly forgotten, or who refuse to recognize as a valid reason. They write it off as scrub excuses because after 15-20 years of playing FG's it becomes second nature, while completely forgetting how hard it is for someone who's not used to controls like that.

Imagine trying to teach someone Ivy's command grabs to someone who's never played fighting games before. Yeah, not gonna happen. Unless of course they grind it out for as long as it takes, which most gamers don't have the patience for. I mean, why would they when they can just pop in Call of Duty and start immediately cappin' fools by just holding down a single button?

It's roughly equivalent to someone who's a pro at the guitar and has been playing for 20 years and doesn't understand why newcomers are struggling so much, and rather than acknowledging the fact that it's second nature to only a very few, they just blame it on 'scrub mentality'.

If you ever have any hopes and dreams of FG's becoming mainstream again like they were in the 90's, they need to be easier, period. I know that probably comes at the cost of dumbing it down, but so be it. Short move lists, easy execution, simple combo's, simple mechanics; this is how you sell a game: by making it accessible.

Look, don't get my wrong. I love my deep and difficult FG's. I love the reward you feel from mastering something difficult. I love the learning curve. But I also acknowledge the fact that these attributes don't sell nor do they encourage innovation.

Simplification doesn't have to ruin depth. Some of the simplest games in the world have some of the deepest strategies (Chess, Go)

TLDR; All FG's are getting exhausted, SC included. Time for innovation!

I very much agree with that. I would love to see more innovation and experimentation within the genre. And I definitely agree it needs to be streamlined (not in the sense of dumbing it down, but making it more accessible).

The game industry can be really weird sometimes. Several genres face a similar problem; most JRPGs play like the old FF games, most FPS games play like CoD, most third person shooters play like Gears of War and most RTS games play like Starcraft. But even those genres see more experimentation and new mechanics than the fighting game genre.

I imagine the only way we can see something really new in the genre is if a new developer tries something daring and gets it really right. Something like Divekick... just a lot better. I can't really imagine companies like Capcom, Namco or others doing anything new as they've really just been making the same game with slight alterations for 15+ years.

I always had fun with SCV....but now I'm feeling bored to play again and again and do the same things in SCV! I think that Namco & Project Soul should develop a new Soul Calibur game for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 or for the next gen consoles (Xbox One, Playstation 4 and WiiU....) I don't know if this project (Soul Calibur Unbreakable Soul) that Namco trademarked several months ago is true and not a fake project, but I really want to hear some news for a new Soul Calibur game in 2014.....
