Less and Less Time for Video Games...

Yeah! I'm the same way with anime too! I used to be into it years ago and could watch a whole season or two (though the last two of those were anime titles I really liked - namely Melancholy of Suzumiya Hurahi and School Rumble). I had started to watch Shigofumi and Clannad when some fansubs were made, but never finished either. Still, I didn't mention anime because it always seemed like my brother would find one he'd think I would like and then, if I liked it, we would all watch it together.

I'd say this phenomenon is pretty common. My PS3 broke 3 months ago, yet I really don't have any inclination to go get a new one. I only own three games anyway: SC4, T6, and MW2. I can't remember the last time I rented a game. What it comes down to is that games ARE a waste of time, coupled with the fact that the majority of games today are not innovative or original enough to stimulate the ever-diminishing imagination of a transitioning adult. Those that are get buried under the rapidly accumulating mountain of uninspired crap, or become a casualty of the inner struggle with the prejudicial question "I'm an adult now, is this really worth my time?".

I don't really know if I can answer that...

I know the feeling on this one. I only own 4 Xbox games, SSF4, SC4, MW2, and FF XIII. I haven't picked up XIII in about 2 months and I swap between the other three. I don't even bother buying new games anymore. Being 30 with a fiancé can really kill your gaming time and spirit. Especially when the girl is a non gamer (I completely feel your pain GeeJay!!).

My advice is to pick a game that is completely out of the norm for you and see if you like it. Spice it up, mix it around. I hated FPS games until I picked up MW2, Halo bored me to tears but MW2 is rather fun online, and quick so it doesn't take to much time if you don't want it to.

The period of time I lost interest in video games was during the middle of my high school years. Way before I got into fighting games I was into first person shooters and many of Nintendo's first party games.

Problem there are so many FPS games out there that felt very repetitive I became bored and retired from gaming for the time being. Until I start going into a new genre I started to feel the hype again.

Fighting games is really a new genre to me and I have yet many other genres to explore.

I can totally relate! Back in highschool, I used to play and beat the RPG's in a reasonable amount of time. Now I'm 22 and and I have like 12 RPG's Sitting in queue waiting to be played

First thing that comes to mind is the originality and/or novelty of a game. This feature becomes harder to achieve over time. My playing time with new games had reduced significantly once high school began; however, it wasn't to do with growing up or dealing with other priorities. Just feeling too familiar and less and less intrigued. Still a gamer, though. So, I think this means it's time to focus on satisfying other elements in your life so that when you do play games it still feels fulfilling.

Well I guess to add further to that, I used to spend very late at night playing video games very often. But after a period of not wanting play video games, I don't anymore because I want to balance with other things in life.

Excuse myself and intrusion. ^-^"

Well, less and less time for games happens. Although I'd love be Pocky Yoshi(with a hint of Mi-na), life can be a bitch sometimes. I can play other games, but they have to keep my attention.

Games like FFXIII, God of War III, Uncharted 2, Halo 3, etc. are nice. However, they don't always suit my taste. I'll probably play them if there was buddies who want me join in or if my family wants me to play them or because of some hype. But most times, I'm gonna get bored and pop SCIV back in to better myself with Yoshi, Mi-na, and Yun. Of course, one day I'm gonna be like my big bro. Always got college, martial arts classes, and his job to worry about. I'm also in college, but I have a lazy conscience which is not good. I have no job merely because I have some scholarship that pays for my tuition. But it kinda makes me feel spoiled which I don't like feeling. Because back when I was in High School, I was expected to just make good grades and not worry about anything else(having a job and car) and I get rewarded with things I like. Where as my bro was kinda seen as the slight opposite. However, I have slight envy towards him. I mean I love him, but sometimes I wish I can just be expected to be counted on like him. For instance, I volunteer to help in the kitchen, but they tell me "No, your brother can do the dishes faster. Just go do whatever you want." or something similar to that. But now, I'm practically a soul fiend that jogs in the morning and tries his best in life despite how harsh it may be. Sorry for wasting your time, person who read this and thanks for reading.

^then why do people say 'complete opposite'?

i only play 2 games, but will happilly play them for hours,i think its getting harder to find good games maybe.
theres a lot of shit to wade through these days.

Yeah, I think lack of...I dunno, games that catch my eye are part of the problem. I really haven't sat down and played a non-BioWare RPG in years, but I was intensely immersed in both Mass Effects and Dragon Agem to the point that.

I think, yeah, it's just not enough mature titles out there. When I say mature too, I don't mean games like GTA with gore and all that stuff that makes teens giggle - I mean the whole ambience and everything.

I can definitely relate...

work along with other responsibilities of life are taking more time.. but this is exactly why i enjoy these short ass games that take 5-6 hours to beat. because of the time i actually put into these games, these 5 - 6 hours turn into weeks.. RPG's can take months to beat and by then i completely forgot the story, what its about, all of that...

same with anime.. most of that stuff is run of the mill. cliche and it's formulaic.. i try to keep my ears to the ground but tv dramas get my attention more these days. especially since most of the tv dramas don't involve school girls and happens at a random high school..

but yeah.. i still have a huge game library but as soon as i finish a game, it's on to the next one. It's why i love this new philosophy on short ass games... long is overrated. short is the new long. especially with my ADD brain.

long is overrated... short is the new long.

I tried that line once. She didn't buy it.

You could just be changing your priorities or interests. If you don't want to play games anymore it's not the end of the world. I stopped playing games a while back and I was reading instead. Then I started catching up on classic films like The seventh seal and such. Now I just feel like I'm wasting time at everything. (That could always be the seventh seal's fault I dunno lol) Might be your id or hierarchy of needs telling you you have more important things to do.

And there's another problem. To reiterate what madnis said in my own terms 85% of everything made is crap. Music, TV, movies, games. It's all the same ratio. Perhaps crap is too strong a word but there's a lot of filler out there that just doesn't excel or try something new. Eventually you reach your saturation point. If something doesn't speak to your soul no amount of trying will make it so. It might just be there's nothing out right now that appeals to you. I went back and played mass effect 2, had a fine time. Got all the achievements. Find myself with nothing to do again.

I don't know what's right for anybody. In the end you have to decide that for yourself.
