Sony shat on Xbox even without the next gen console war. The Last of Us. Beyond. Xbox, what exclusive game of the year nominees have you come out with recently? What's that? "at least we got Halo."? hehe. not anymore...

The PS3 at launch was pretty bad, but nowhere near as bad as the recent decisions for Xbox. IMO, Kinect and killing original XBL was the starting point for Xbox's slow descent into madness.

fuck kinect. if they offer a kinect-less one, THEN ms can have my money.

Didn't Sony have more fuck ups then MS in the past?

the only thing Sony had as their fuck-up was that huge account hacking problem where PSN was shut down for a while. but they kinda made up for it by giving gamers that were affected, a free game. and PSN does do free money giveaways occasionally as well. and Playstation plus is da bomb.

aw, who am i kidding. sony has been shitting on Xbox since the start. i remember getting phantasy start so i could play it online.

pay fee for xbox live + pay fee to play phantasy star on xbox live = fuck dat!

you don't get free games and discounts for paying for xbox live. how come Sony knows how to treat the people that pay but Xbox doesn't have a clue but on how to abuse?

While I'm far from being an Xbox supporter, I can't help but note the hypocrisy of comments like this. It's like everyone and their mother decided to play Sony fanboy and totally ignore the fact that the folks at Sony are also gonna charge a fee for their standard online service and leave online DRM (including online passes and such) entirely up to the developer. Also, it's been a whole month since E3, are you seriously still blinded by the hype fog? PS4 is gonna be more like original Xbox One than the Xbox One itself.

That is not to say I support Microsoft's BS and flip-flopping, but at this point both consoles are just about the same in terms of policies and raw power (2010 PCs with used games and disguised DRM). And honestly, with the exception of Killer Instinct [and maybe Beyond], neither console really has any exclusive games that look good enough to justify a $400+ purchase. There's absolutely nothing noteworthy here that isn't already being done with 7th-gen consoles. Project Spark and Secret Ponchos are the only remotely original ideas, and two of the only four games announced for either console that don't scream lifeless dudebro garbage (with the other two being KI, which will be a bitch online because of f2p being Jago only; and Minecraft, which has already been played to death by millions of people).

Now add to that the fact that many of the PS4 exclusives everyone had been waiting for, like KH3 and FFXV, have been announced to be multiplatform, and you've got yourself two nearly-identical consoles... except for the fact that the XBO will have an awesome controller and a super-hype-looking fighting game on release, while the PS4 will have a pad that looks like you're holding two black cocks and a bunch of downgraded PC ports (for $100 less). And neither one will move on to digital distribution like they should have done seven years ago. AND there's no backwards compatibility AT ALL... on release anyway, when 7th-gen games are still relevant.

And you know the worst part of it? Most people I've talked to IRL about this say they're actually pretty hype for the Xbox One, even the CoD haters.

whoa there. i don't think there was any hypocrisy in my comment at all. considering i don't pay to play online right now nor do i play any pay-to-play games at the moment. Microsoft screwed up by announcing things that us, gamers, didn't like. the same stuff that even Sony had on their console. the thing was, Sony was quicker to act and listen to their consumers. Xbox got shown up at the big competition (E3) by Sony and that's a big deal. even if Micro finally decided to change something about their console it's a little late in the game. that's like doing shit in the olympics then suddenly finding your motivation after the games are finished. (bad example but you get what i mean.) right now PS4 is ahead of Xbox in every way i can think of at the moment. Sony even got a head start with their PS3 exclusive games that are going to close out the 3rd gen console generation into the 4th. The Last of Us, Final Fantasy 14, and Beyond. All coming out back-to-back. What's Xbox got? i'm not a fanboy and i went into this console war as neutral. Hell, i had a gamecube first, then i wanted an Xbox in highschool, then i traded that for a PS3 because a hell of a lot more games appealed to me. the only thing that ruined for me (the switch) was that i didn't care for achievements (trophies) for the PS3 since i worked my ass off for them on xbox.

But in the end the PS4 also has a lot of the stuff "gamers" (I hate that word) didn't like, the only difference being that MS at least had the decency of being honest about it, while Sony only confessed it briefly long after the main show had ended and their hype marketing had done its job. In fact, MS took note and fixed the DRM policies, while PS4 was very well aware of people's dislike for them- but they kept them anyway.
even if Micro finally decided to change something about their console it's a little late in the game.
Another statement I'd strongly disagree with. The consoles are not even out, for all we know Xbox could vastly outsell PS if they play the right cards at the right time. Their marketing department is doing a superb job, as I said before I know a lot of people who are really hyped for it. They've also got a release-day exclusive in pretty much every relevant genre right now. So no, I wouldn't say they fucked up too hard, it's just a vocal minority in major gaming sites that make it seem as if PS4 is "winning."

Oh, and now preorders for both consoles are sold out on Amazon. A huge number of consoles have already been sold on Amazon with Day-1 delivery, more Xboxes than PS4s.

I mean, it's really your choice, but I wouldn't wait for a price drop for any of the three big consoles (yes, I'm also including Nintendo here). Here's why:

More dedicated players will wait until better games are released, but the large majority of American consumers will just buy the Xbone because OMGLOOKATHEMGRAFIX!!! Microsoft played it really smart appealing to a very low common denominator of people, stealing a lot of Nintendo's casual crowd with tons of kiddie shovelware (and you can expect the likes of Angry Birds and Candy Crush to get there pretty soon) as well as with their use of novelty technologies like smartglass and kinect, so Xbox will do remarkably well this holday season, even if not with the help of core gamers. MS makes tons of money, price remains constant for another year.

This could actually be a problem for more mature audiences moving towards the Sony side for a more serious experience, because tons of 13-year olds and shallow-minded CoD players will also get PS4s because it's "cooler" and "darker," even though it's really the same thing. With this shift in demographics, you can only expect an exponential increase in the number of dull, lifeless brown-and-gray "action" games- to the point of saturating the console's catalog. Sony gets tons of games and prepubescent fanboys, price remains constant.

Now, I'm not sure to what extent this next scenario will happen, but it will definitely have at least some effect on publishers: Core gamers (long-time video game players, not the shooter crowd) will get tired of the growing number of all-inclusive, shallow and simple-minded game trends on the major two consoles, so they will split into two sides: PC gaming and Nintendo. Both Steam and WiiWare are becoming indie heavens, which could eventually spark a gaming renaissance. Nintendo might for once not be stupid and take this opportunity to revive core interest in their system by bringing back SNES and N64 franchises, getting more Bayoneta-style exclusives, and founding indie developers on kickstarter to develop exclusively on their system (which they've already started to do). Also, with Melee at EVO 2013 becoming the biggest fighting game stream ever, they might start -at the very least- thinking about the competitive crowd in the near future. And Smash. Smash Smash Smash Smash Smash Smash Smash Smash Smash Smash Smash. Wii U survives, probably no significant price drop.

So yeah, that's my reasoning. Might be wrong about the last one (hopefully not, 3rd party Nintendo would suck), but I'm positive there will be no price drop at all.

Yes you do. Didn't you see on their recent announcement how they will be giving 2 games per month away for free on the XBL marketplace just for being a gold member?

i'm sorry. i didn't hear about that. but did you say, "recent"? PS Plus has been doing more than 2 free games plus discounts off of any game purchases. i don't know how Plus works in terms of how and when you get ahold of free games, cause i don't have it. i just know friends that have access to it. i understand that Xbox just started something where you get something for having a certain amount of achievement points? i don't know the details of it but it sounded promising. give people more of a reason to try and go in-depth into a game. that is, if, it's true.

Yes, PS-Plus offers members free games an discounts, BUT you need to pay a subscription for it, much like how Gold works for members on Xbox. PS-Plus is still good, but Xbox also does major discounts a lot periodically for games, like a year old retail game for only $15 or $10 for download.

I was really excited about it, but it turned out to be ridiculous. You'd need to beat about 30 games with near full completion to get anything meaningful out of it, really disappointing. Although they are giving away some of the earlier bestsellers of the generation for free to all members, which is great for people like me who bought the console five years into its lifespan.
