Missing character discussion

Think something like, Why is Street Fighter sell so much? even when changed so little over the time, because some characters can't get out, people who like those will buy every new game no matter that haven't changed anything, just to have the newest version of them.

You are but the one of the few that don't put characters on popularity pools (no offense), most of the sells are casual players that give importance to that kind of stuff, and since the tournament players see them as mere skins shouldn't even matter.

The number of characters again, does influence the balance, nevertheless they should be able to do this with the given time, also why not contract professional players that can help with the balance, if you take roughly SC 5 have about 24 styles that are SC and usable in tourneys, but it still have some pretty bad balance issues as far as I read around here, I think is all about organizing it.

Your example, Zasalamel, is the best one. Regardless of all that you've said against his sudden appearance. He complements my own point rather well I think.

He is unique, he offers a play-style that is fundamentally different from all the other characters, frankly I'm a little surprised people here are still going on about clones at this point. There haven't been any cloned characters (mimics or CAS types don't count) for a long time.

Soul Calibur 3 had a massive roster compared to the others along with the various CAS options that were new at the time. This and the various glitches were confusing to the larger and more inexperienced part of the player base at the time and that probably explains why it didn't do so well competitively compared to the more streamlined casts of Soul Calibur 4 and 5.

Take a closer look at Tekken Tag Tournament 2. If that isn't confusing to any size player base I don't know what is. This is why I said not too many at once. Make sure players have their chance to learn effectively without being constantly surprised or overwhelmed by better characters or players they don't know. Players do like to make up excuses for losing and they have vivid imaginations. This is where the single player modes and the story elements come into play.

They do need improving, but I do think giving players some time with additional characters could've worked, even without arcade mode endings and a more complete story mode. Unfortunately at this point I'm not sure any of that matters. I'm not so sure people will accept much less than a complete package at this point, if just the additional characters ever had a shot at all, but dwelling on that won't make it any better.

Ignoring that then the most unique characters like Zasalamel might just be good enough though. If I were to suggest some more it would be Yun-Seong or Hwang/Assassin, Cassandra or even Sophitia and Seong Mina or maybe Rock. Those last two in particular always had a hard time getting in, so maybe more completely new characters like say Bangoo is a better bet, there's always Talim.

The story elements look more essential everyday we wait, which does not help their cause without them, so without completing the stories of every character including any additions (maybe add some new match modes too)... I'm not so sure people will want to buy into it let alone back into it. Not to mention all this clone talk on top of everything. If there's one thing I'm definitely not saying, it's that it would've been easy, but worth it in the end? Well, I always hoped it could be, but I guess really I just wanted to play Lizardman again (but don't forget to give him back his hat)... Here's hoping.

And The Apprentice too... But if they give just his style to another character I'll never forgive them... Probably
Man you sound like a worker for Namco, are you also one too?

Ramus, I believe Street fighter 3 (NG,SI,3rd strike) series was never able to achieve a status like Sf2, or even now SSF4:AE, balance is because the point you made about the casuals caring for the characters. I remember reading somewhere that SF3 series never intended to have Ryu or Ken (all previous characters were supposed to be gone except Akuma who supposedly rumored to have kill Ryu in a fight).

Of course, the Street Fighter followers at the time spoke out and after some time (maybe minor protesting), they included Ryu, Ken and later Chun Li.

Am i the only one who prefers the new cast over the old one :o?
Well, you are certainly in the minority. However, you are probably not the only one who thinks that way. Personally I prefer much of the old cast (not all of them however), but in particular Taki and Seong Mi-Na. My opinion on the new cast in a nutshell:

Patroklos: Justice! Kill the malfested!
Pyrrha: I'm sorry!
Leixia: Omg I'm hyper for no reason!
Natsu: I'm bored, and I am also a gender-bended Naruto rip-off.
Xiba: Food!
Viola: I forgot my backstory.
Zwei: Don't worry Viola, I refuse to talk about mine.
Alpha Patroklos: Goody goody two-shoes, with no helpings of justice.
Omega Pyrrha: Screams, and DNS B. Oh, and DNS B. Did I also mention she has DNS B?

Overall, my favourite new character is actually Zwei lol. Although, if we could find out more about his backstory and he zipped his damn pants up that would be nice.

Well, I would have to agree with you on the fact that soul calibur 5 characters are simple and have little to no backstory. However, isn't that what soul calibur 6 is for? I mean Taki and Seong Mi-Na were both in more than one game..

True, but then in Soul Blade, Taki and Seong Mi-Na actually HAD a backstory which was explained (someone correct me if I am wrong), unlike much of the new cast in SCV who have very little backstory at all.

I've said that millions of times already.

The artbook resolves this issue for the new characters. Unfortunately, very few people know about it.

As far as Soul Edge, yes Edge Master mode explained the backgrounds of each character, and also their journey in the Soul Edge storyline. Whether it was canon, semi-canon, or non-canon. Then whatever happened canonically was explained in Soul Calibur's Gallery Mode.

Uh the artbook is in Japanese. Lol, I can't read Japanese, so I have to search for people's translations of it. Yes the artbook is very helpful to the story, but they need to tell it in the game, not say "Here, buy this book in Japanese to understand our game's storyline".

Basically most posts from Tuzark_merlire are translations. Also use the search feature for his posts on the thread if "don't have time for" reading 33 pages.

Lol, I have read that whole thread, I kept up-to-date with it. Fact is, I would have liked to be able to read this stuff myself in the book or have it ingame, rather than getting the translated version online. Much of the stuff in it is interesting, if they actually put it in their game, they could of had a decent, maybe even good, story mode.

Art_Olcadan_SC3.gif

Was Olcadan considered cannon back in SC-III?

Seeing how Master Edge came back, I felt Olcandan would make a interesting match up for Master Edge, or Kilik, since I recall the theory of him of only being stalemated with Edge Master, and not to mention he's pretty old so he could tie in the story for the future with Algol or Zasalamel's story plots or backgrounds.

Besides, many base popularity off of their history in the game, which to me isn't fair for the new characters since this is their first game. They've never had their time to mature or develop as characters like the veterans have been able to do.
^
Kind of like DC comics and Marvel Comics. That's the same problem that every game series seems to be getting after certain amount of sequels. Assassin Creed had, or still has, that problem. Street Fighter tried to go fresh back with SF3 series. I'd admit I didn't like SC-V at first glance with the new characters, but after giving it a chance, they become a part of it for better or worst (better for me).

Nice summary of all the characters. I also miss part of the old cast like Zas, Seong Mi-na(personal favorite), Talim, Yun Seong, and Taki. Zas and Talim could of returned as something new. I blame Spartan for reopening my nostalgia wounds.

At least he didn't threw salt on it....

I had forgotten about Sophi lol. Adding to that, would be her hubby. Poor Rothion =(

Oh yea, Raphael was also confirmed to have died but he came back somehow. I would guess he's a ghost because of that smoky stuff coming out from his feet while Nighty/Dumas is the body controlled by SE.
(Either that or Raph has some serious athlete's foot) xD

It's theorize that she called on Algol's son soul to help guide Algol and help him move on. I don't think she actually brought him back to life.

And where are your references for what you just claimed?
Because from what it said from her profiles, her village seems to be special. I would guess that their wind abilities are inherited since her dad is a shaman and her grandmother is the village elder so she's born with natural wind ability. Of course, she underwent training since she's a wind priestess to further enhance them.

It's been noted that there's a decline in the number of wind practitioners ever since the Spanish and Portugese came to their land. I would have to guess that a number of her villagers are converting to Christianity and abandoning their faith, causing more and more people to lose their wind powers. So, I would have to hypothesize that wind powers are both inherited and developed through faith and practice.

*Talim was predicted to be the last wind priestess. There could only be three possibilities for this :/
1)She never has kids. Whether it's because she dies, or because she's running around helping people and has no time.
2)She gives birth to a child that doesn't have her wind powers. Maybe if she doesn't marry someone from the village, the kid doesn't have powers. Or if she falls in love for a malfested, the dark energy would cancel out the kid's wind powers and make something in between?
3)She gives birth to a child that has wind powers but doesn't believe in her faith so it never develops those powers.
You want to know whats true about her? She was "NOT" born with special abilities, her people trained her to have special abilities ok? She is a normal girl when she was born, she is just like Sophitia except she was blessed by the wind, with out that blessing she is nothing but a normal human being. She is just like Mina or Yong song a normal girl, don't trust the Soul Calibur Wiki so much, sometimes it's wrong. She is not in a spiritual level, stop saying that, that is not true, I created this character so I know what she really is. I really hated when people are just guessing about what are character is and won't listen to us the people that really made this character.
