NEC XII SC4 Full Results & Aftermath

The final major tournament for Soulcalibur IV is now in the books here at NEC XII in Philadelphia, PA. Competitors from across North America and Europe participated in one of the toughest tournaments that I have seen during the life of this game, along with those who came to try out the demo build of Soulcalibur V.

I would like to thank everyone who came through to NEC, to the European players for flying over to compete, to the staff who helped keep things going, and to Namco Bandai for their support of NEC XII. Everyone had a hand in making NEC an amazing success.

Quick shouts:

Dreamkiller - I had a huge smile on my face when reading your props to me. I consider you one of the most skilled and most grounded people in this community. I still remember when we first met at Papy's apartment in 2008, and your first words to me were "So you're that new guy, Khent? Yeah.....you kinda need to drop that bitch you use...", and all I could do was just smirk nervously, LOL. I feel honored to know you well enough as a good friend.

Greatone - Once again, it was a pleasure hanging out with you during the weekend. I feel terrible that I couldn't find a way to get you out to Popeye's before it closed on Friday night. I hope the Wawa trip made up for it? Anyway, I always enjoy our talks and I will miss seeing you at future tournaments. I sincerely hope that everything settles at home so that you can make these trips without worrying so much anymore. Also, good shit in coming back on me in that FT10. You have good instincts and a ton of potential. Never let anyone tell you otherwise.

Kikaleek - You've made a huge stride in breaking down my defense, and it showed. I kinda got the feeling that for a while now after having difficulty in fighting me that you just needed to show that you were capable of dealing with my bullshit. You definitely did, and I am happy for you. See you in SC5, brother.

KowTow, Richez - Two blasts from the past. I was thrilled to see both of you again after so long. KowTow, I don't think I've ever told you this before, but I owe a lot of my early progress to you (as well as Bibulus) because you (and he) were patient enough to play so many games with me in casuals. You even helped me to understand the art of iWR moves. I don't care what people say; you are a good person and I have always respected you. John, I wished we could've spoken at greater length, but there was just too much going on for the both of us. I enjoyed hearing all the details of the work field you are involved in! Next time you guys come down, any room I have reserved is free of charge for you.

Dullyanna - I'm glad we were able to work out something for you coming to NEC. You deserved to come out and have a good time, which is why I covered for you. I hope your situation becomes more profitable and stable so we can see more of you. You will always be welcome to room with me.

Partisan - I have never been scared of any Cassandra player until after I fought you in casuals. When I heard that you not only got 4th, but also defeated Malek along the way, I was not surprised you were so god damn strong. Amaury told me of your constant dedication to training and getting better at the game - certainly a level of dedication I could never hope to match. You deserve each and every amount of praise you receive.

JR - As with Greatone, I enjoy all of our philosophical discussions. You're one of my best friends in the community, and are seriously one of the nicest and smartest guys out there even with that rough exterior. I have always had an enormous amount of respect for guys like you who came up through so many hardships and built a good life for themselves. No matter how rough the road gets for you in this game, I will always be there to help you out as best as I can. Take your time in figuring out what you need to in order to succeed. Also, Demaris is a lovely and wonderful person. You are a lucky man, John.

Philly Crew (Sporko, Zero, Malice, Woahhzz, 350z) - I owe each and every one of you guys my sincerest gratitude. You welcomed me back into the fold a few years ago even after all the stupid, inconsiderate, and intolerable jerk-off stuff I pulled. Your patience and understanding has helped me to become a much better person, and for that you are all tops with me. I couldn't possibly think of a much better group of people to hang out with for Soul Calibur.

I know I left a few people out, but it was because I couldn't think of something justifiable enough to write up. My apologies.

In closing, I would like to say that the reason I haven't participated in a tournament since early 2010 is because while I liked being around the events and playing casuals, emotionally this game had made me a bit of a wreck and I couldn't handle the failures because I was too weak. I'm confident enough to say now that I can be more mature about this sort of thing, so once SC5 is out I can finally be a god damn man and do what I have to do.

Tag and Lobo, those were some awesome posts. I didn't know what I was mad until I read your perspectives. If it helps, I will post a little context to help with the legendary SCIV event that was never captured.

I feel disturbed at the moment, so I'll just talk until I feel better.

Pretty much, I just got back and I had a great time, but it's been hard for me to recover after I threw away my match to Scud at the end. Especially since I don't know when I'll have another chance like that again.

Since I froze at the end, I've begun to doubt myself when it comes to performing in high pressured situations. Although I've taken solace in the fact that I was on such an awesome team with Niz and Team North America, I'm still deeply concerned about my ability to perform.

Other than my suckiness, in the end, Lolo was the MVP of the event. He made up a new dance on the fly and clutched it out for team north america by beating Scud when we needed it the most. Also, he beat Scud in singles preventing him from possibly taking it all.

Oh and all of the Frenchies spoke english which meant that we could talk to them! Even Keev brushed up on some expressions lol.

partisan, made the biggest rise by beating a lot of top players including Malek. He's also winning tournaments now. I can safely say that I've never played anyone with smarter mind games than this kid.

Bibulus did some great commentary and interviews. that was awesome man.

Krit, i saw a red head. who's this big girl that you've mentioned?

partisan, Lolo, Scud and Woahhzz are the best players in the world in my opinion and the results reflect that.

After all, don't Lolo and Woahhzz play SC4 online the most?

Eli has also become a top player all of a sudden. He surprised everyone and went neck to neck with Malek in singles.

JR could've used more support from everyone. Aside from his wife, he was essentially there alone.

France, you are all a nice group of people except for Kira when he loses. When Kira is about to lose, I always put the hater cam on deck.
Malek, you are my biggest rival and friend at the same time. I want you to win because you will stay happy and we can laugh about stupid shit, but i also want you to lose so that you come back.
but i have to give it to you...i admire your courage for a few reasons:
* you wanted to play me with my hat on at WGC 2010 (Scud did this too but Dina chickened out)
* you've traveled to the U.S. 4 times already
* you wanted to unban the Star Wars characters so that I could come to WGC 2011 when your companions where scared
* you came to FSAK in america alone to take down a country and for all practical purposes, you did
* you don't try to win by the system like Dina/Kira
* you troll the american forums and talk shit
* you consistently put yourself and your teammates up for a challenge against us

NEC would not have been the same if you didn't show up. When you showed the courage to come here, you've already won.

Actually that reminds me. Dina wanted me to take off my hat when we played and he switched my buttons to steal a round. I eliminated him in the world game cup Hilde vs Hilde and I made sure that Hilde was banned in Europe so that he wouldn't place top 50 in tournaments. But I'm still not content. I feel compelled to go over there and whip his ass some more.

Scud has exceptional talent and everyone in the world has had a chance to experience it first hand. I hope that he enjoyed his first trip to America.

Lost Providence, should do uncensored commentary. he was the hype voice that you kept hearing in the back ground "get yo ass up bitch!"

Furzy and I probably hung out the most and he bought us breakfast. nice!

Malice and NDK voluntarily captured random parts of soul calibur for NEC and that was great. NDK is my boy.

I hope that everyone had the pleasure of experiencing Sporko's lively personality when he's intoxicated.

I'm also happy for Woahhzz. He's made me proud in representing the new generation of soul calibur. good job kid.

Other than that, my last 5 tournament matches were against Ivy's:
1) Malek in random teams
2) Malek in team north america
3) Woahhzz in singles
4) Malek in singles
5) Scud in singels

The results for singles were 1) Woahhzz - Ivy, 3) Scud - Ivy, 5) Malek - Ivy. And if Ring was here, it would've been Woahhzz/Ring/Scud for top 3.

I went 50/50 with her for the most part, but after a while, I just got tired of seeing the bitch.

With that said, I'm ready for Soul Calibur V. From what I've gathered from Daishi and Yoshi-son, this game will be more balanced and you will see more diversity.

There are a lot of tournaments coming up, but I know for sure that my next stops will be Final Round and Evo. I would go to the world game cup in france but I'll need more than 2 weeks to practice before I go to any tournaments. Until I see you guys again, props to all of you!
Nice post man, but like i said in the video thread of your fight against Scud no one was there supporting you and throwing some fuck him up RTD or his scared like you did when LOLO was playing SCUD at the team tournament, nice shit btw you people are learning, keep it up.

Omega, mi cheerleader :), ya quiero que llegue la 5 para empezar a escudrinar eso y entre los dos dominarlo todo.

Hey, shall we do the shout outs in here or shall we make it in another post in the proper section?

Hey, shall we do the shout outs in here or shall we make it in another post in the proper section?

Antes de sus planes de conquista mundial mejor esperen a ver si Zasalamel aparece en SCV, aunque se q Omega podria ganar casi q con cualquier personaje su fuerte es Zasa y le iria mucho mejor con el.

Alright, props in no particular order whatsoever.

LostProvidence-You shoulda taken my money, son. I was drunk and hell and willing to pretty much *give* you cash for a FT5, and you were scurred because you were "A little buzzed"? Buddy, I was shitfaced, shoulda taken my money

Hawkeye-looks like our pseudo fictional rivalry will have to continue in V. For the future (and this goes to everybody) if you wanna play me in casuals at a major, you will probably have to find me and ask me to do it, otherwise I will likely just party and get my drink on

Partisan- you little calibur guru, you. I remember back to FSAK, when you were still in training and had that sparkle in your eye, and look at you now, big pimpin' and running a one man train on French prodigies. I may never forgive you for never coming through with that dinosaur you owe me, but I still can't help but <3 you. Congratulations, sir

RTD- I really appreciate you trying to coach me against Pantocrator, nobody really tends to do that with me. Also, I know your match against Scud left you kind of down, but as a spectator I think that might have been the best match of the tournamet

Oof-was a pleasure being on your team, even if we didn't make it too far. I'm just glad that, before we were eliminated, I managed to at least win one match so you didn't have to carry me for the *entire* tournament, heh. Oh, and if we ever play each other in singles, thanks for divulging your weakness to me. I will try and snag that 1P seat everytime, haha.

Pantocrator- props on handing me my ass with Siegfried. It's funny how the words hate and heart only differ by one letter, because I feel both of those things for you, haha. <3

Malek- Good job handing me yet another ass whooping in teams. You are a monster, albeit a friendly one. It could just be the lack of a common language or being uncomfortable around people they don't know, but I noticed much of the european community seems kind of quiet/aloof around us Americanos, but you are always super friendly. It's always a pleasure to see you

Furzy-same goes for you, sir. You seem happy and super approachable, and I had fun talking to you outside

Jian- you were my mortal nemesis in Calibur 4. I played you more than any other person in tournament, and I received more beatdowns from you than any other person in tournament. We seem to have a real style clash, and it really works out in your favor. And yet, I can't stay mad at you and your adorable little twinkie face. Never change. Except for the beating me, part. Change that a lot.

Woahhzz- My man. You are the best, in many a ways. Congratulations on yet another win at a major, and I hope you continue to kick this much ass in Calibur V. Also, now that I plan on actualy learning the game and not just playing it, like I did throughout 4, I hope we can work together as partners when we hit the lab

Kit, Rich- thanks for letting me crash in your room, homies. I'll try and make it up to you sometime.

Neorussel- Was a pleasure to play you, and I hope it didn't make you too sadface that you had to double up on Voldo losses. If it makes you feel any better, the same thing happened to me, except with Siegfried.

Aneudee- same goes to you. I know you're rusty, and especially considering your talent and how nasty Astaroth is against Voldo, I'm sure that's the only reason I managed to pull it off. Until next time

Krit-thanks for being my cheerleader, and for sharing your chinese food with me Sunday when I was starving. <3s It's always fun chilling with you

lolo-man, you are so fun to talk to, to watch celebrate, and to watch play. Props on second and for inventing the official dance of Soul Calibur

Europeans I haven't already mentioned- thanks for coming, we (the north american calibur community) very much appreciate the europeans supporting the global community by coming out to american tournaments. We're indebted to you

Jaxel- thanks for running a quality stream, as always, and sorry that you got screwed over by poor scheduling

philly-Khent, thank you for continuing to be a supportive part of the community, and for being a buddy-pal. Zero, good job placing as high as you did, not only with Talim, but at this tournament filled with such high level competition. Malice, thanks for helping out in all the ways you did, and for being Malice, heh. Larry- thanks just for showing up, I was not expecting that! JJJ- we had fun, as always, and sorry that we had to play against each other first round in teams, like we always seem to have to do.

Goofus-thanks for chilling with me on Saturday and SUnday, and for pelvic thrusting at Daishi. We are Voldo-brothers

toocool- man, your name is so apt it hurts. Had a lot of fun having nerdversations with you all weekend

Idle/Alicia- thanks for coming, for chiling with me, and extra special props for both letting me use your room to store my food and lending me a towel sunday morning

JR-thanks for letting me use Idle's towel in your shower, heh. I had a blast talking to you Saturday. Bro, I hope you never stop coming, bro. You're like a bro to me, bro.

hackermike, adit, bibulus-thanks for your help in running this tourney, and supporting the community in all of hte various ways you do

Dullyanna-man, I don't think I even got a chance to see you after Saturday afternoon, but it was a pleasure as always, not only for the conversation but, of course, for playing PSP with me

There were so many more people there, being generally awesome and supporting Calibur, so I am sorry for any I left out, there is too much greatness to fit into one post

post snip.

All I caught out of that was 3 sisters something blah blah, are they hot? That's what we really need to know here lol.

Also thanks for the room and the burger Khent, good to see you took some of those lessons well lol. Always down to try and help people learn the game if I can.

EDIT: Oh forgot I had to put Malice on blast for ducking out of our cheesesteak match lol. And likewise props to Chuck the Manslide for stepping up and keeping his end of the bargain.

Scared? I was there all weekend. And, barring the fact that I was passed out before Woahhzz and I played that night and went right back to sleep afterwards, I don't want anybody to 'give' me anything; then they can tell themselves and everybody else a thousand excuses. Unless you make some trip to Chicago, though, there's always SC5.

Oh come on

1. I'm obviously fucking with you

2. I don't need excuses to lose. I lose all the time!

You wasn't going to play me in SC4, and I barely had a chance to play SC5 with people constantly asking me for shit, so it's going to have to wait until I come out of retirement, perhaps.

I almost forgot to thank my main man Khent for putting me up for the weekend. And thanks for dinner as well.

lol you said leading up to it you'd get at me in SC5. Just sayin, you knew I wasn't gonna touch SC4 coming into this.

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to say a quick thing as im currently working. I wanna thank all that was able to make it out this event. As for my voice, I am on day 2-3 of recovery. When I get out of work, I will write a proper shout out thread.

I was there! Said Hi to a few of you but forgot people like partisan, niz, and others would be there :( Was def fun though! SCV feels hype as hell! Nice to finally meet Lolo and Furzy. I think most people couldnt understand my name in person... Thinking about taking the D out LOL

First of all, I wanna say that this was my best experience since I started traveling, this is due to people, almost every person that I have met in the community, was there, and a few new faces too.

The skill level of this tournament is unmatched on any previous tournament anywhere, namely,TP, LP, Partisan, RTD (at his best), Woahhzz (Making his traditional I'm a god in sundays), Mick, etc, and from Europe, Malek, The Machine, Pantocrator, Kira, Furzy and Keev...
Honestly, I don't see any better way to say goodbye to SC4 and get hyped for SC5.

Lots of theory game were trashed after this, Keev and Pantocrator showing off that the player match is more important than the character match.

Part 1.

Woahhzz: Congratulations kid, you deserved it, I still remember when you were thinking about dropping Ivy... As much as I would have loved it, I'm glad you didn't, our matches this time, were godlike, you are the Ivy.

Furzy: Glad you finally make it to America and nice to meet you, you are really a cool dude to hang out and a Yoshi partner, I know you dislike Yoshi vs Yoshi as much as I do, lol, it feels uncomfortable, that's why I prefer to use secondaries, lol.

Scud: Nice meeting you, it felt like the first time I met TP, you both are very serious, but you start loosing out after some time, I wish we all have had more time to hang out outside the game.

Malek: Always a pleasure and a challenge, share your lucky charm with me, every time I got your Ivy, some miracle happens to you, you must be a very religious person, lol. And BTW, Yoshi vs Ivy is 5.5-4.5 for Yoshi in small stages :), it sucks to depend so much in the stage selection in this match.

RTD: I have improved my game thanks to all the experiences in tournaments, one of those experiences was NEC XI, I sucked so much while teaming up with you and Mick, but I will never forget all the things you said to me even when I was playing trash, so even after traveling a couple of times from another country and getting back empty handed, I never gave up, so don't even doubt about your abilities under high pressure, I remember you saying "Perfect defense, that's how I see it", you ain't there yet, but there's no one closer to that in the world.

Mick: You started late in SC4, but you sure started early in SC5, that Leixia is already looking good and scary, but I don't wanna hear any excuses while losing to Ramon, you have to do the same vow when you said that you were never going to lose to any Amy never (I'm not counting this one with TP, I know you were trying to CE him).

Greatone: Amigo, I'm glad you are always there everywhere I travel, I miss our cigarettes talk of DEV, I know I'll be seeing you in Texas next year.

Delnar: Perra loca desgraciada, la proxima vez no pierdas contra Niz, pero esta bien, you tambien la embarre todita por no castigar a Malek cuando pude.

Keev: I don't what you like so I couldn't even try to talk to you with mimmicks, I know you like soccer, me too :)
I think you have the potential to be no.1 in France, but you have to learn to duck.

Pantocrator: I'm glad you don't know karate or any other martial art, otherwise we would have seen you kicking our asses and your teammates asses too. I like that kind of passion in a player, it only says that you will keep improving, you are the most aggressive player in France.

Kira: You improve every time I see you, you just need to get your head in ice while playing, you are a very emotional player, and that affects your game, keep that for casuals, but be like the machine when in tournaments and I cannot see many players beating you.

That's it for now, this tournament had many many players.

Continue in Part 2.

Haha, let me just say that I didn't expect you to look like that. Great meeting you though!

LOL why? I think most people expect me to be black for some reason? Oh well! Was nice to meet you as well! I wanted to compete in SCIV but it was running the same time as MK which was the main game I came for... Was a little too hectic :P Im sad I didnt get to say hello to Partisan and Niz though... :(

Yeah lol props for beating me in a game you had a head start in. Just kidding not really kind of yes I WANTED TO WIN

I had a head start of literally TWO games. I hadn't even figured out Raph's good shit yet. Run it back next time we're together if you want, THE SOUL STILL BURNSSSSSSS lol

And thanks for the vids Malice, thanks for all the help throughout the weekend with the event.

OmegaXCN: Kwang, it was really nice to meet you. Too bad I didn't get a chance to play you and show you X's true power!! :) I didn't see you on Sunday, but I left after about 2 hrs of being at the Sheraton. Hopefully I get to stop by at that Anime convention and see ya then.

RTD: YAY, finally after 9 yrs I get to play my first match against you. Bad news, it had to be in the 1st rd. Thanks for the heads up. Sorry I didn't put up a good enough fight. You are just a brick wall, but that's cool. SOLID!!!

LP: Even more sorry that I chocked against you. You have crazy mad Setsuka skills and you were able to pick up on my lack of high tourney match experience. I hope to see you some time in the future, so I can redeem myself.

Malcom: Good casuals vs you. I finally was able to beat your Setsuka in casuals, which was good. She's a beast and you do so many cool crazy things with her. Hope you and Damien are able to stop by sometime to Madison.

Damien: Man, that Amy is insane. After our first casual match, you turned everything around and I wasn't able to adapt. Thanks for the advice. I do need to get out more and JUST play bigger names, go to bigger tourneys. I can't wait to see you defend your Nationals title. I do hope they have more qualifying spots though....

IceColdEdge: Great to meet you. Your Siegfried is great and I think you would have won that match agaist the French player except they were coaching him, which I personally don't like, but I guess that's allowed. I wish I was able to put up a better fight in the team battles, but lolo and thugish are brutal opponents to have to play against. Fun SCV casual matches. Sieg is looking good.

Bibulus: Thanks for the info. Too bad we didn't get a chance to play. We've only played each other 3 times in our sc journey, once in Chicago during sc2, once in a money match in sc3 in Denver, and once in sciv in Chicago. How do I remember this stuff...lol.

Jaxel: cool to meet you. Sometime, you can maybe try and help me with the stream thingy. I'm a little technologically not so savvy with that stuff. You had your hands full and I think the tourney was run really well.

Mick: You always keep it real and you're so cool. I hope to get to your level sometime. You repped with X after losing 1st rd. Hope to see you more in other tourneys.

OOF and Russ: Good to see you guys again. Russ, you are always funny and make me laugh when you play SC, with your commentary and reactions all the time. OOF, you Vader skills are crazy, and I'm just glad I didn't have to fight against you in the singles tourney. You gonna be maining with Aeon then I mean Lizardman? Take care.

Madison SC Community: I'm sorry I let you guys down. I know you all had high hopes for me, and did I for myself, but I need more experience, kinda like how ppl need more experience for sex, it gets better and better...lol. Good that you guys saw me on the stream. I have the casual vids uploaded from scv. DAISHI is HOT!!! Thanks for your belief and support in me. I kinda wanted to cry bc I felt like I really let you guys down, but I know you are all happy and supportive of whatever place I got. The experience itself was more than a prize for me. Let's get Madison into Top tier status....Remember we are going to have 18 double elimination tourneys and 2 frame data tourneys, so prepare yourself.

lolo: Lo siento.
