New Soul Calibur V Image & Character Silhouettes

how is she the chun li of the series?

what about mina?

what about sophie?

she wasnt the first and only girl in the game. Those three are all equally the chunlis of the series.

Taki, unlike Mina or Sophie has been in every single iteration of the series, including guest appearances in other namco games, REPRESENTING the soul series. there is no doubt that Taki's popularity easily outnumbers that of sophie or mina.

EDIT: meep, sophie was in legends, too. still, taki, apart from mitsu is the only soul character who has been repeatedly chosen to represent the franchise in other games.

as you quoted chunli was taken out of one of the street fighters.

Which means that taki is even less the chunli of the series.

...regardless, at this point every character can be replace, and every character can stay, it depends on who they choose, And if taki is getting a replacement? Be happy, dont complain, if tira doesn't come back ten bucks says she wont get a replacement and I'd kill for one. dont look a gift horse in the mouth. Quitting because a character isnt there is ridiculous. and shell never return if the game doesn't sell well, soul calibur five doesn't sell = no soulcalibur 6, support the game and bother the hell out of the creators but dont damage the chances we have been given.

While there are both points for and against Taki's status as the "Chun Li" of Soulcalibur, Chun Li is probably the most like Taki from a personality standpoint and iconic standpoint and that is what we are most referring to. Involvement with the story be damned, Taki was highly involved in the first game, and honestly, after SCII the story became complete shit anyway.

With that said, is is in no way a good thing to have her replaced. To just throw another model in there and slap her moveset on it is literally a slap in the face to devout fans. Taki is one of the very few characters to have never been 'cloned', such a shame to betray that legacy now. The character in question can simply not be Taki from a body type alone, so it's new or unrelated entirely.

As for how well this game sells? I've done my bid for king and country here. DeathCom.NET has been a strong supporter of the series for the past ten years. I have been an active voice in the community. I don't even know how many times I've debated character design regarding Taki in other forums on other topics (often creating new fans).

Removing Taki is more than just removing a character. It's principle of the matter. This will boil down to a war on Namco regarding sexist behavior plain and simple. This is a war I really wish to avoid. (and yes, I know it's also a war I can not win, but I WILL do damage) Considering Mitsurugi, who is confirmed for SCV, and then Taki gets ditched? The only real reason this would happen is Taki is female, and would be over the age of 40. As we know, women in Japan over 40 are taken over a hillside, and apparently shot. I was really hoping Project Soul would not be so misguided, even if they have to bust out the magic whatever to keep her forever young. Sure its cheating, but that whatever scenario I can deal with.(besides, that gives her a way into Tekken at some point :P )

Would I take it personally if Taki is to be removed? Hell yes. When I started playing this game I was 16 years old. In the time since I've not only become older than my favorite character, but I've also beaten opponents with a character I was playing before they were even BORN. So for them to simply remove her because she is just too old? Well you know what, I guess I'm too old for this shit too then. Time to grow up and let the legend die.

I really hope it doesn't come to that. And I still refuse to believe that Taki will not be in this game. But mark my words, as much as I've been pro Soulcalibur in the past, it will equal as to what I will be anti Soulcalibur should such a dark future come to be.

I do feel it would be a huge symbolic departure for Namco to “replace” Taki. I agree that she is one of the most iconic (and coolest!) characters for the SC series. And to be honest I was looking forward to seeing a 40-something version of her for SCV; at the least, even if she is “replaced”, I hope she still makes some kind of appearance if only as a part of the plot (such as there may be).

I too had been hoping that SCV would tone down the fetishism somewhat and focus more on character. Pyrrah is way more modestly dressed (and endowed) than SCIV Sophitia, for example. I thought perhaps they would redesign Taki to be less ridiculously proportioned, and the silhouette might suggest that if it wasn’t also so skinny (and wild, with the hair and very energetic pose).

On the other hand I don’t have quite the same investment in Taki per se that you do, and I also think that if SCV will be worth playing, it will be because it doesn’t just recycle the same stuff over and over. If everything was the exact same then there’d be no point, right? And with the alleged half old / half new split between a cast of ~26, some popular main characters will inevitably be missing from the roster.

Given that, I’m more inclined to look forward to whatever Namco does as a new take on the series. Even if they killed off everyone and replaced the entire cast, it’s not like I can never play SCIV again.

Hell, even if this fighter is a new Taki-style clone, maybe they’ll still include a playable Taki. I doubt it, but you never know.

that is a complete over reaction and I Seriously hope youre joking,

They confirmed ivy already who is older then taki isJust because your favorite character doesn't return doesnt mean namco is sexist. In fact id rather her not return, odds are a 45 - 50 year old ninja would move something like a sloth in a race and fight like two wet sponges. im sorry but after a certain point you lose alot of your agility and strength and energy and regardless of how fit you were it doesnt stay forever.

Same goes for setsuka, I like her fighting style as well but I'd rather see her gone then comeback.

Seriously I cant even respond to this you are overreacting to something that doesnt exist.

I've been watching harry potter since I was a small child, when I Watch the last one should I boycott the franchise? I mean after all I have grown attached to all of the characters not just one and each character there has more personality in their toenails then taki ever did.

The story in fighting games has never quite been interesting, and good, its usually complete crap. and SC is no different.

lol Oh noes my character is not gonna be in SCv, I am boycotting Namco...lols. This why Fighting game stories suck...Taki no longer has any real purpose in this series, she just a model with a moveset. This is true for many other characters in the game. Some are young enough to be interesting in character development...otherwise most of the old roster has gotten bland. It's unfortunate that Ivy is returning simply because her weapon and boobs...she brings zero to the table.

voldo is going to be like 70 this time around o-o and regardless of powers shed end up less of a ninja and more of a mage at that point.

aside fromthat I like taki as well but I think she SHOULD get replaced.

Again people on 8wayrun looking a gift horse in the mouth. Shocking.

See why I don't venture into speculation? Lol. From guessing who those 2 silhouettes are, things have spun out of control. One dude did make a very excellent drawing based on that female silhoutte. Excellent work.

Seriously, I can understand the "passion" some people have for their main character ( see DeathCom's post ) . It is a well written manifesto of his loyalty to his main, and I can relate to his sentiments . However, I wouldn't go out of bounds so as to downright insult someone else's main ( see someone else's post ) just because my character/s may get axed , but let us say for the sake of argument that Ivy was not in SC V. Would I still play SC V? Well, I'll decide when the game actually comes out.

Since SCIII was announced I've said if Talim isn't in the game I'd retire.
Now in SCV it's the same but if there's a Talim-like chara replacement with her weapons then that's probably who I'lll use.

I know it hurts to lose your main character, the one you are using since day one. But to be honest, now that I've grown and I can clearly understand what the Soul Calibur Series offer, if they ever replaced Sieg (my main and fav), I would possibly scream, yell, throw things, swear or even cry but I'd never NEVER give up on the SC series. (I'm talking only about myself, I don't mean to insult anybody. Plus I know I'm on the safe side now, but remember all the SCIV endings where Siegfried was in - except Hilde's)

Haha, we've just gotta help the bros out and warn them when they're losing it. The 'chun li of SC' thing did get more than a little bit crazy, and go places I didn't expect. :D

I think the thing is, people have to try to separate what they want from what they think is likely. I agree, we all have our favorites and we all sympathize (like there are a few hardcore Sophie/Cass people who are NOT thrilled with the kids). The trick being that our discussion here won't change anything, at least not about this. Those silhouettes are about characters that are already decided :p

Then we can all have fun guessing and trying to figure things out, y'know?

also, slightly offsubject, but they don't wanna talk about it in the other thread so...

Did you guys see the (what are probably) Amy pictures that Amy pointed out in the Behind the scenes video?
