I don't like .hack series, for me is waaaaaay to boring.

I personally enjoyed SAO, I don't care what other people say, there is no way for anyone to change my mind, it might not be the best anime ever but its not the worst either.

Every anime has its con and pros. I would've liked a better explanation of the first part if the series because everything goes by really fast, also the second part was good but not as good as the first one, and not to mention that they messed up when his cousin falls for him(which I think it was pointless).

Any other recommendations??

I also loved SAO. I say watch Accel World set in the same universe. Ppl are hating on that series too, but I fucking loved it:)

Accel World seems similar. Try it out.
I just finished Accel World and I liked it, but I was hoping more.

Yeah, they both occur in the same universe. There is a theory that says that Accel world was a game made from the seed of the universe from SAO, and in one of the final episodes they show the Headset that Kirito uses to get into SAO.

Another states that Kuroyukihime is Kirito and Asuna's kid.

So I started watching highschool of the dead. It's a really good series... until episode 6. Then the fan service kinda goes ballistic. There is a show... well I can always use it as an example of how fan service can actually hurt a show. It's grating. Before that it's there a little, there's a panty shot or a bounce noise but it's within tolerable, typical anime limits... then all the girls take a bath, and are running around half clothed, and the breasts seem to have a mind of their own, and we have to watch a LITTLE GIRL put on her panties... and there is so much of it crammed into every episode. It totally kills the atmosphere/makes it hard to take the show seriously. Did I say hard? I meant impossible. It's so ridiculous, ov3erwrought and over the top as to not even be sexy or fun. We could tone it down about 4 notches on the 1-11 scale and we'd still be pushing it. Which is a shame because there's some beautiful soundtrack work and the show is gorgeous. The part where the reporter takes a split second to mentally register the gunshot and THEN flinches is incredibly well done. I'm at episode 10 or something. I'm gonna finish it just because but I gotta say, a lot of good potential and occasional bright bits of writing were wasted. (Loved the part where the little girl had to pee, movie quality idea and it wasn't milked and the characters handled it intelligently. Annnnnd then we get some shots of tits bouncing [again and again] in a car and a bent over camel-toe.)

I'm not sure, maybe something broke inside my head a while back, but I really started to enjoy the shit out of retarded things in anime. I loved the good parts and loved the shit parts of SAO. Idk guys, I thought the harem bit was spot on. I was able to relate to Kirito from being buried in irl pussy all thanks to my level 60 paladin back in vanilla.

Yup, so, while I'm talking about retarded shit, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure might just be the greatest thing I've ever seen. I love when Speedwagon explains stuff for the benefit of the audience. I love when Joseph tells people what they're gonna say next. I loved it when Joseph and Cars were falling for 2 minutes, Jojo and Caesar stick icicles together to stop his descent and also what Cars does to prevent himself from falling on a flower at the bottom. There's just too much shit to mention. This shit is so stupid that it's genius. I'm pretty sure it's my favorite thing ever now and always will be.

I'm usually the first to applaud stupid shit in anime. When Goku powers up for a whole episode, or a hero and villain smack talk for 30 minutes in DBZ, I'm there. Those are some of my favorite moments. But this really wore on me. It might have something to do with the fact I knew I could never show this show to anyone I would want to respect me or it might have something to do with the fact the (at times shamefully pornographic or pedophilic) fanservice was not only personally disturbing but ruined the dramatic tone otherwise building as opposed to adding to it in someway.

In that vein I guess there's the heart of it. When a jojo character avoids say crushing a flower, that's all in character. It makes sense that dio brando says cheesy stuff like "jotaro has... damaged MY HEAD" from an in universe perspective, at least we have consistency. That consistency failed in HOTD, because the show seemed to operate on two completely different gears. The dramatic parts were intelligent and wanted you to take them seriously, while the fanservice parts were stupid and impossible to take seriously and for me the sudden shifts between the two and the way they did not meld only served to sound that dissonance.

That said I came here to say, that the last 3 episodes were pretty solid. The fan service came up twice briefly in episode 10, and then seemed to bow out for the remainder. And to good effect. What's more all of the girls who had been running around naked or wet suddenly decided to put some clothes on and stay away from splashing water. I was left with the same feeling I was after the last three episodes that I was by the first six, that this was a good show. The last episodes have some excellent (almost movie like) pacing, some tense dramatic scenarios (loved the stuff aboard all the naval vessels and the space station) and some really well planned animation.

I guess it just goes to show the importance of your final act. How you close a story is probably just if not more important than how you open one, as the last interaction you have with your audience and the last impression you get to make. Overall I'd say it was a decent show, reprehensible at parts, very good at others. If a sequel were made I'd say, tone down the smuttiness of the fan service next time and you might have a very good show.

Funny you should say that, G_J, but some news thing on Crunchyroll mentioned a Season 2. I haven't seen anything beyond that, but still.

Anyways, as we approach the middle of the season, I'm going to discuss the shows I followed at any point, and my reasons for doing so.

Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin): As of now, I'm 4 episodes in, and I'm calling this my leader for Best of 2013. This show has everything short of romance, and the acting backs it up.

Valvrave The Liberator: As of episode 4, I am confused... in a good way. Sunrise + mecha is a good combination, and some decent acting, a great soundtrack, and some easily memetic moments (ERU-ERUFU!) make this a very enjoyable show. For now, at least.

HenNeko: 3 episodes in, and this show gives me mood whiplash. In all aspects, including it's studio (JC Staff), it should just be a romantic comedy. Not really. It actually seems to be a show about the troubles with growing up, with some light romantic undertones to start it up.

OreImo 2/Railgun 2: If you liked Season 1, it's the same deal for S2.

My Teen RomCom Snafu: Wow. This was the underdog for this season, but it's good. It's a bit formulaic, but the way everything plays out each episode is different enough to keep things interesting.

Photokano: DROPPED. Just not my cup of tea.

RDG - Red Data Girl: DROPPED... wtf? This show has an interesting premise, a beautiful soundtrack, gorgeous visuals, and the worst plot and characters I've ever seen. How bad? TWO EPISODES IN, I hated every damn character because nothing made any F**KING SENSE-AAAAGH! But honestly, when you can't get the synopsis from the first two episodes... it's shit.

The creator of HoTD is a hentai doujin artist.
The entire reason for him doing anything is for TNA.

He even had an interview where his answers were sheer genius.
Hid dedication to ecchi is without equal.

This is why HoTD is totally fine. Also because i knew who the creator was when it started and knew there would be almost nothing but fanservice, which is fine. I don't think it hurt it at all. Slo-Mo sniper boob ripples? GENIUS. Boobs that sway faster then bullets fly? GENIUS. The entire reason Saeko killing zombies? GENIUS

Evangelion 3.0... dafuq was that?

NONE of those scenes are in the film! It looks like they have changed the entire concept and the plot in the middle of their work (which would explain why it took them 4 years to release it)

I watched it and I think it was terrible. They story is a mess, the movie is too short, not enough time spent on the characters, doesn't answer any questions.

The only thing that doesn't disappoint is the stunning 3D animation.

Looks like there setting something up for the Fourth movie

I can't say much but looking like we're only in the middle of it.

You don't think the fan service hurts it? Okay. We'll play that game. Show it to your mom. Then, if you are working, show it to your boss. If it's really "totally fine", if it's "genius" then why hesitate to share it? Show it to your mom right now or shut the fuck up and stop bullshitting. You and I both know the looks you'd get. You and I both know you're not going to do it and why. Don't waste my time bullshitting me.

If you liked it that's cool and that is one thing, but don't tell me you're oblivious. You could try explaining to your mom how the man's sheer, unrivaled commitment to perversion somehow excuses the perversion, I would love to know how that goes.

Highschool DxD... Can I get a recommendation?
All I heard was it has some nice fanservice and the story was rather simple. After reading the synopsis, I can conclude it might fall under my guilty pleasure anime. Fanservice with mediocre harem plot, but I still want to watch it because who doesn't like fanservice?

To be fair, my parents watch anime. I got my father to watch High School of the Dead. He liked it despite the giant boobs he couldn't take seriously haha. My mother just gave me that look of "what happened to my baby" however.

Personally though, the fanservice was okay until I saw the teacher's giant balloons and boobs dodging stuff. Rest assured I had a boner before, but it kind of diffused a little when my friend down there and I went skeptical. It was like, "I'm supposed to fap to that"?

You might be right if you knew who you were talking too. Even then i think you're WRONG. I've never hesitated to share anything.

I watched Ninja Scroll, Mezzo Forte and others with my DAD, let my teacher borrow Mahoromatic and Burn UP and i gave my boss at work, when i DID WORK in 09, my entire Hentai collection (his favorite was Another Lady Innocent). And those are just some the "superiors" that i gladly talk to about, show and let borrow WHATEVER because it doesn't matter. I've watched with and let so many randoms borrow any and all anime/shows i have from Hamtaro to Bible Black because i don't give a shit. What others think matters not, and never should.
Hell HoTD ITSELF i watched with my church loving uncle, his business pals and a few of their wives. I even watched it with a few friends and their kids, though they didn't stick with it im sure.
The MY MOM statement i could answer if i didn't try to avoid her with for that last 8 years. Hadn't even talked to her for a while until she FOUND FACEBOOK like a month ago maybe. Maybe less actually, weeks.

I have no quarrels with what ANYONE watched and why. I'll voice my distaste for something just as i will what i found good, bad or what i like. But the fact someone watches it, or that it should only be confined to yourself matters not. I also love arguing so i will argue just cuz, so if i can say something to trigger it AND i kinda find it true then it's all good.
But none of that last section matters, point is i watch whatever, whenever with whoever and it doesn't matter.

I once watched AMV HELL 0 with a 7 year old. WRONG? Ya maybe, but he didn't want to leave and the new AMVHELL just came out so im not stopping it. I then told his mom, which was my step mom about it.

Red Data Girl. I'm trying to stay on it, but at times I fall asleep on it when I'm not that tired. Sometimes, I switch anime because I just don't feel it. Unlike you, I'm gonna play masochist until something gives....though I'm trying very hard to make sense of it.

The other animes you listed? I think you're spot on each of them minus OreImo 2/RailGun 2 and Photokano. The season 2 animes I dropped because I preferred not to invest in any of them. I'd probably like them, it's just I chose not to watch them for now. Photokano? I only watch it because I'm a hopeless fool looking for a good romance anime.

Any suggestions besides Clannad?

Highschool DxD... Can I get a recommendation?
I have watched DxD. Loved it. It's basically a harem comedy that's making the transition to a battle harem comedy... like Rosario + Vampire, but the manga version.

The fanservice goes all out (bare tits in your face in Episode 1), it's reasonably amusing, and when there's a fight going down, it's pretty good. The characters themselves pull this together, though. The lead is a massive pervert who actually wants to make his own harem, and most of the female party members (especially the female lead) are completely fine with his grand scheme, and even repay his good deeds with service. Considering how a lot of recent harem shows have been the same 'we love him, but kick his ass at the slightest provocation' formula... it's refreshing. I'd say you should give it a shot.

Anything by Key really. If you enjoy crying with Clannad, you can go for Air or Kanon. I prefer romances with a good bit of comedy, so my recommendations are Toradora, Boys Be, and Ai Yori Aoshi.

If anyone else wants anything recommended let me know. I've seen my fair share.

Highschool DxD is hilarious imo. Especially if you read the light novels. I couldn't recommend this enough if you're looking for a harem comedy with a bit of (pretty decent) action. The visuals are good and the voice acting is really good.

I've recently seen Darker Than Black, The Last Exile, Squid Girl and Samurai 7. I've got to say that I really liked all of them. Squid was cool for just a laid back watching and Samurai 7 had me bummed when some of the characters died.

I liked all of those, but I definitely have to say that Darker Than Black was particularly awesome.
