What gives Key the great translation between media is the fact that they have a studio that is willing to stay as faithful to the source as possible, while making just the minimum changes necessary to make it work on screen. Toei's Kanon was meh. KyoAni did just that much better. Though I will hold Air as my favorite.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the niche communities out there for the genre, particularly some of its origins from Megatokyo. I just didn't expect to see a development here, that's all.
 
Animefreak6969 and iKotomi, I was eves dropping on your Air discussion and I think I want to but the Boxset. This question is more for Animefreak since he still buys anime: I'm not sure with one I should get:

Normally I would say that if you can, the original box and dvds are better unless its some sort of special edition, but the DVD releases for Air are literally just cases with DVD's inside. There aren't any bonuses either other than trailers, so you aren't missing out on getting the thinpacks as far as content goes. The only real difference would be how much you care about the cases. I like the box a lot, but its just smaller pictures from the artbook I have. There's also the price thing, lol.

art box. it is better quality than the thinpak, also cheaper all together with the other single DVDs also. All around plus

forget the movie in general, if you have to get one, get the cheapest, as it's more than what it's worth.

Hah, didn't notice its in the bargain bin. Yeah, get the originals. Almost feel stupid for paying 4x more for a show I've already watched countless times, but that's just the price of the hobby.

The movie was handled by Toei, and isn't really faithful to the original. If you watch the TV series, there is absolutely no reason to watch the movie, as it is long, boring, and ugly. Same people also did the Clannad movie, which I didn't have the courage to actually watch, but the clips that I saw just skimming through it were pretty scary.

On another note, they really need to make a Little Busters! anime, the game is way too good not to. And a Planetarian OVA or something.

EDIT- Also, they're having SCIV in the game room.. on 360! wtf?
 
the Clannad movie was infinitely better than Air, however still terrible. On top of it it came out between seasons of Clannad and spoiled the After Story story. Also made Nagisa a peppy, uplifting super girl.
 
Yea...been waiting on an Little Busters anime for some time. Though I haven't played the game yet...but the box is sitting on a shelf behind, with the rest of the preorder goodies. Same to be said for Planetarian. Need to pick up my Genki books again...maybe this time I can get more in my brain.
 
KyoAni, I love you, but please make the next episode the last one of ths higurashi arc. Seeing haruhi in a new dress every episode and watching Mikuru say kinsoku jikou every other word is not enough to make me not actually bored during a haruhi episode.
 
I heard the new animation for Haruhi is hit or miss. I'll have to see just how that is.

Tenth novel needs to come out already.
 
So far the animation is nothing but hit, as it's the same quality as it's been.

anyway i'm just waiting for them to announce Kyon to be a slider
 
So, apparently I'm not actually supposed to like Haruhi (the character), at all. Perhaps that was my problem with the show when I tried to watch it last. Perhaps I'll give it another shot.

ok ok, i just watched Training with Hinako and i enjoyed it much much more than anyone should ever enjoy this. I almost couldn't stop laughing 15 minutes and beyond, it hurt me to breath afterwards.

Initially it's just about some girl who got sucked into her TV because of an anime she wanted to become PART OF, but well we do too and she hasn't seen another human in a while, and since she has to lose 5 kilos or the show gets cancelled, and since shecalls us fat too we train with her, doing push ups, sit ups and squats.....

She likes us quite a bit, so it begins you watch her do each excercise in 12 increments from various camera angles (her boobs jiggling VERY noticeable) and yay she has to go to the set of the show, and wants us to come back. You see something like credits play out to an epic battle.

We come back and she's in her underwear she's emberrassed and happy, and now we begin day 2....same thing, ends and she goes to the set, credits.

We come back again..... and now we're about 10 minutes in and well they gave up and so the remaining 15 minutes of the show is just watching her do these things, and not just like before.

12 push ups boobs almost flopping out, then 24 push ups boobs almost flopping out, then 12 more in underwear, and 12 more in school gym clothes. THEN back to first outfit and just her making noises and dance music in the background and thena zoom in shot of her boobs with *BOING* noises in between every number. They then repeat the same thing for sit ups and squats. this takes forever.

THEN we get a shot panning up her body laying on the bed sweating, shorts unbuttoned and BOOBS and her just counting to 12. THEN we get her doing nothing but short bouncing to just count her boobs bouncing, 12, 24 and then a zoom in shot of 12. And then to end it it's just her starig at us counting to 12 and then 24. THE END.

best show ever? YES

haven't started Canaan, but Shigurui isn't very good. Even for just straight up ultraviolence, this show is SO SLOW, SO UNMOVINGLY PACED that the constant violence can barely hold your attention

sucks for you, I find it to be one of the few anime of it's kind that come close to keepig the feel of the manga. And i can't see how you can find a what a 12 episode aimee slow paced, but eh, I guess it's not your thing. I personally loved it.
