Clannad was good. Waiting for After Story.
Shana went down the drains during Season 2.
Code Geass R2 is so bad, it's good.
Bleach/Naruto I hear the manga is better, but who cares.

Some of my favs (not necessarily recommend):

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Baccano!
Kara no Kyoukai
Black Lagoon
Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu
Boogiepop phantom
Rozen Maiden
Higurashi no naku koro ni (kai)

Off topic:
Dubs are fun...

I blame the surge of mediocre anime on the fact that japan's economy isn't shit at the moment. alot of great anime was released between 1990-2001 whilst the country was in a nasty recession. recession means the ppl have less money, so they'll spend it wiser and on fewer things. So quality over quantity is on the peoples minds. So only good anime was making money, so it pressured the company's to output quality.

same applies for video games.

lol, Chaos Wars. Yeah, I'll admit that dub is bad enough to make me want to play the sub. On second thought, I might play it with the dub just because it fails so epically.

Just curious, am I the only other person here that likes the Visual Arts/Key stuff?

I didnt like air
I cried during Kanon

Kanon DVD 6 is finally coming out 4 months late :/ atleast rightstuf still has the older dvds and box still available. Also Busou Renkin DVD boxed set 2 is coming out soon as well. I thought it was pretty good for a Jump series.

Buso Renkin was good, but it was also a blatantly obvious Bleach knock-off. Don't get me wrong, I like Bleach so I have no problems with a Bleach knock-off, but a little creativity couldn't hurt, either.

I guess I'll throw out the anime I've really liked...

-RahXephon (music/mythology based plot + great mecha battles + even better characterization + amazing Studio Bones animation = win)

...

I liked Bleach as a manga a lot initially (bet you couldn't guess that from my avatar, hmmm?). It really was reminiscent of Yu Yu Hakusho (a series which I loved growing up) and it played around with shonen stereotypes and was just a fun series with some badass battles and monster designs. Then it got epic in the SS arc... Now? Not so much. Too many characters and a story I just can't get into right now. =/

I'd second you ALL THE WAY with Bleach.

You know, after thinking about it, I think RahXephon is kind of what NGE was supposed to be. I always find it hilarious that NGE became a good show because they ran out of money...

So very very agreed. At that time too I guess some people were much more in-tune with the times and the problems were a little more real. There was a Japanese movie I watched a few years ago (live action), where it was about a couple separated, and because of the economy the wife couldn't handle keeping the kids. She leaves them behind, and so it's up to the eldest son (14) to keep the family together. Really riveting stuff, but nowadays all you hear about Japanese cinema is horror crap. If anyone knows the movie I'm talking about, getting the title would really really help.

Thinking about it, Busou Renkin's twins had a similar experience. Go figure.

My top 10 are

1.) Dragonball[Z]
2.) Sailor Moon
3.) Death Note
4.) Cowboy Bebop
5.) Tenchi Muyo
6.) Love Hina
7.) Lucky Star
8.) Midori No Hime
9.) Hellsing
10.) Gungrave

Lately I've been to busy gaming to be able to watch anything else.

I though it was a fun series. I don't think its a Bleach knockoff, Only Bleach can take 188+ episodes to tell a 26 episode story, sometimes when i watch it i feel like im watching DBZ and reliving the powering up for 5 episodes.

speaking fo DBZ i forget where i foudn this.

@Syrpiektre

I know the movie your talking about, i read about it in an issue of wired some years ago and i've heard good things. I'll keep my ear to the ground for the title, i really wanna see it now.

It just sucks because the Hollywood video I rented it from is gone now :/ However, thanks the amazing memory of my sister, I now have the title of the film: Nobody Knows. Really good movie and yeah, I misquoted a couple things (not a couple but a frivolous mother, and other things) but it's still good nonetheless. It was actually done in 2004 when Japan was coming out of the 90s recession, and pointed to an event almost 20 years prior when things were rockier.

On a more random note, you know, to this day I still haven't watched Grave of the Fireflies, because I'm afraid of being heartbroken by it.

Weak.

Man the fuck up and watch it, sir.

Also, Air > Clannad > Kanon

Some random stuff:
Hare + Guu wins
Karas wins
Metropolis wins

And:

Fuck whoever dropped subbing Gunslinger Girl: Il Teatrino for Saiunkoku Monogatari 2, and fuck whoever dropped Les Miserables: Shoujo Cosette.

Rant over.

Haha, I will watch it someday; the thing that I like and hate at the same time about the movies, movies, etc. that really grow on me is how they tend to make me go on a writing blitz. I wrap myself around the emotions I feel during it obsessively until I can figure out how to emulate those emotions onto a page, in turn pushing away a lot of other things I should be doing, like work :P
