Prototype vs. Infamous

Didn't pick it up just yet. Waiting till Friday, I think. Reviews seem very mixed. Gamezone gives it a 9.4 on PS3, a 7.8 on xbox and a 9 on the pc. Consistency is king.

I hear ya... i've read every single one of them and it's hilarious how inconsistent they are. Most of these come from reputable sources and one reviewer will say "Draw distance is terrible, broken, blah" and some others say, "Draw distance is excellent, great looking, blah." I was going to wait until Friday anyhow, so i guess i'm just going to be reading reviews. Still, i think i am more sold on this than inFAMOUS. Not comparing the two here, i just only need to buy one game and i think this may be the one.

Reason I only buy one game at a time:
  • New game: $60
  • Quarter of Weed: $110
  • 12 Pack 1554 black ale: $14
  • Sitting in my room all fucked up, ripping heads: Priceless

lol! well said.

Yeah i hear Infamous is much better than prototype. Its refreshing to see a good sandbox game come out of the pile of shit that mostly contains GTA clones.

Haha, damn, your weed is pricy.

Yeah, it's usually 60 an eighth. I don't like to smoke schwag so i gotta get the good shit. And it takes a lot of gas money to get decent bud to south dakota lol.

Yeah, this thread really started out as trying to decide which to get. Not really comparing them to each other, because they are totally different games. Now it's just kind of a waiting game and discussion about the [PROTOTYPE] reviews that are dropping. Anyway, i totally agree with you, we don't need any more GTA clones and frankly i would be fine if GTA:IV was the last of the series.

I dunno, GTAIV was alright, but whoever in the Rockstar team thought it was a good idea to have to take your friends out bowling every ten minutes of play needs to be taken out into the car park and shot.

Hey my bud is $260 a half.
So I wouldn't be complaining about a $110quad.

Well, I mean, I can get it for that, but I smoke strictly medical kush.
XD

Oh shit, a guy pulled up on me yesterday at the gas station with a pound.
said he'd let it go for $1000. when I laughed at him and said I can't come up with that, he said he'd do 2oz for $300.

...Is he a narc?

Will try to pick this game up this afternoon.

Bit of a cash flow problem at the moment though. Fucked up refund takes forever to get back.

I actually decided to pick this up today as well! Hopefully it will be as fun as I expect it to be. I watched the Gamespot review today, and i have to say the video footage just got me pumped up. Not that i haven't seen the other trailers and gameplay movies, but in this review you could really see what the game is going to be like. While it may not be for certain people, I think I will have a lot of fun with this game. I can't wait to get creative with the parkour/gliding/killing. I'm so stoked right now.... I will probably post a mini-review here after i spend a couple of hours with it. Come on... is it 5 pm yet?

Yeah, I traded a few games in for it today. I also picked up a copy of The Sims 3 to keep the missus quiet and out of the way while I wreak havoc on it. :)

I bought this Wednesday on Steam and am really enjoying it so far. The movement (wallrun into jump into glide into airdash into glide, etc) mechanics are great, and the superpowered toys that the game gives you are pretty fun to use.

Oddly I'm finding myself enjoying the (horrible) plot as well. When my character's ex-girlfriend had no comment about the 100+ people and cars that I flattened during our drive back to her home in my hijacked tank while wearing the skin of Old Lady #487, I was disturbed, but also a little intrigued... She's ok with this? I'm calling the evil villain plot twist now. And if this is only mission 2, how much crazier can I make things? (hint: much crazier.) I definitely get a whacked-out B-Movie vibe from this game, but one that makes me cackle with a bit of childish glee.

And yeah, there is really no option to play a conventional hero. It's impossible. You can walk down the street in this game and accidentally kill 6 people by farting. You're bad news.

The game starts out really easy, but it ramps up in difficulty before too long. The last mission that I played required me to consume some hotshot tank officer by literally killing everyone who works for him, and judging by the amount of guys that I killed (2000+), he had a nice lofty rank. I'm not sure why this would motivate him to show up in person, but it did give the game a great excuse to make me fight dozens of tanks, APCs, Hunters, and helicopters at same time, which made for an epic fight. Tough as all hell, but it makes you feel like your character is a total bad-ass when he finally does manage to win.

@ Lies-- Awesome! I'm glad to here some positive things, i think if you go into it with the mindset of "I know this is gonna be a little cheesy, and the graphics are not 100% polished, but i'm going to have some freaking epic battles..." I don't see how it could disappoint.

I just picked up my copy on my lunch break. I called Last Stop CD Shop, and some parent had sold it because when their kid booted it up and played, they were quote "Horrifed." LOL!!!! I got it new, played 1 time, for 40 dollars. Ka Ching!

I bought Prototype today and seeing as how i dont own a PS3. This game is plenty fun. I prolly wouldnt like infamous cus I dont like shallow moral choices in games.

Prototype is plenty fun and you wont regret buying it.

@Wuben -- Lmao

Anyway, [PROTOTYPE] is... freaking fun. I love the sandbox genre, and this game gets a lot of stuff right. The movement in this game is probably the most fun of any game I have played. There is really nothing like running up a building and rocketing off, gliding for a bit, air dashing and gliding some more...only to see a car and totally annihilate it when you crash to the ground.

The battles are some of the most epic i have had in a game. The difficulty spikes, that some see as a downfall, i actually welcome during some of the missions. Free roam makes you feel like a god! You can take out just about anyone and strike teams are nothing once you get a few upgrades. That being said, the missions get significantly more difficult as you go along, but it is refreshing (a little tense too) in a way... no one wants to easy mode a game to the end.

The biggest downfalls of this game would be the story and graphics. The story is a little cheesy to say the least, but the Web of Intrigue is very cool. I'm having fun piecing together the memories of my specific consumed targets. As for the voice acting, it sounds like Alex Mercer is always grunting his way through a shit while he is talking... a little over dramatic, but it adds to his badass-ness I suppose. The graphics are sub-par for "next gen" systems, but really I don't mind. There is so much going on, tanks, helos, monsters, zombies, marines, explosions, and no slow down at all. The cut-scenes are where the graphic shortcomings are most noticeable, but doesn't break the game in my opinion.

Sorry for the long post, but this game is truely fun and has caught a bad rap from some and been praised by others. I can personally say I love it, and a lot of time will go into flying around New York, buying all the upgrades/powers (there are a shit load), and destroying loads of infected hordes, military tanks and aircraft, and civilians alike. This game is badass and give it at least a rental if you haven't played it yet.

I do like me some infamous...... though i have not played prototype i do not regret getting infamous i like the way it plays. Walking the city and having people run up to me asking me to help injured people or to help stop a mugging. It the simple things like that make a super hero game seem more realistic i mean its not just missions that get the story going its the things that super heroes would have to do and shocking the crap outta people is fun

^ Glad to hear you are having fun with inFAMOUS. I may rent this one after i get done messing around with [PROTOTYPE], which is seriously addicting. Anyway, this thread was never meant to be a "which game is better," just that i needed to buy one game and couldn't decide. I did see an inFAMOUS boss battle on youtube, and it looked pretty epic.

I've played for 11 hours now. Done like half of the missions or so. Taking it REALLY slowly. Actually got pretty frustrated at times, but since I've started using the armor skill, it's all good.
