SC5 'Ivy' Story/Possibilities/Speculation

Now that I think of it, what I heard from Malek does have a lot of sense.

He said that in Japan people don't play balanced games at all, while the imba ones have a lot of interest. Personally I don't support this but.... then again, I only play SC and I don't know how it is to play a balanced FG game :) It would be funny if SCV was the most balanced game of all, something we waited for so long, but had the shortest lifespan in the series due to boredom.

What made me laugh, though, was how Namco approached the bugs in SCIV. Like Ivy's stance lock that Dcvizzo mentioned earlier - they said they were aware of it but didn't fix it in a patch because they thought we wouldn't find it...

fail.

lol, is that really true? If so... then "Fail" isn´t imo enough to describe such... thoughts.

Ivy - stance lock = balanced.
Thanks a fucking bunch Namco >=(

Yeah, you know i really do think that some developers are just to lazy or even don´t give a fuck!! about balance in games straight from the beginning...

But to think that gamers wouldn´t find certain... "broken" glitches or bugs in games is just... Plain stupid.

Just stopping in to ridicule people with blind faith in Namco that they "know what they are doing"...

On topic, I used to think Mishimas were fine and everyone needed to shut up when I played Tekken Tag. I kind of had a similar attitude to the ones I see in here about Ivy and being objective about her strengths and weaknesses'. I understand character bias, and all kinds of things but... eh.

I don't think being a top player qualifies you necessarily to make judgements about balance in the sense most people think it does. Better than an ignorant scrub? Of course., (Most of the people here are better players than me- in case that I am not showing sufficient "supplicance").... but balance is not just all about numbers in a vacuum, or even character match-up vacuums... nor is it just about move strengths. There is much much much more to it than that.

Anyways, I have enjoyed watching the last few pages of this thread from a curiosity point of view. Please, by all means, ignore me and continue.

It is!

I'd also like to notice that this section has almost 1000 posts, which is 1/3 of entire SCIV Ivy SA. Are we gonna hit 3k before the game is released? Anyway, keep it up, guys! :)

Lol, I didn't know that...

Namco really needs to understand that everything that can be found, will be found, and everything that can be done, will be done.

When reading about Ivys bugs, I wonder if they knew about Hildes Doom Combo and thought "Ah, we let it like this in the game, because the combo is so hard, nobody will ever do this."

They knew about the doom combo, it was indended - namco wanted Hilde to be strong, but she turned out to good. When the french players asked about that they replied that you can still beat Hilde ....with Amy. This only shows that they never wanted SC4 to be a balanced game in the first place.

I hope they will learn from their mistakes...

i noticed the ivy wishlist has filled a quite a bit since,do you think its worth considering resending it?
also i think we should send it to someone besides daishi,is there anyone else high up we can send it to?there must be,because daishi will probably be too busy to look at things really and he never really seems to reply to english only japanese so i dont think his english is still all that good,i might be wrong, but i think we ought to send it to someone else too so theres more chance of it been read and the ideas put on board
what about filthierich?

I dont want ridiculous buffs for Ivy. All I want is for her to remain versatile, fun, and somewhat complex.

I hope every character is on equal footing in SC5.

I hope they do make Ivy more aggressive compared to SC4 though...DOWN WITH TURTLING!!!

kerrod123:
we dont want her like a super character either,i think some people really took the wishlist the wrong way reading whats been going on withe the arguing the last few pages,we just want some things sorting out, like improving some moves so there not practicly useless, and expressing that we dont want ivy ending up too simplified so anyone can just pick her up or so theres no fun and diversity to her anymore, ofcourse there the extremes of it it wont end up that bad,but they might end up simplifying her too much.
and to add cool new ideas but aslong as they were balanced, all my message has gone in the qoute box again..i dont know why this happens sometimes..

No, it's a UB set-up. If the opponent holds G button he will get hit but the UB (but still can duck it if he's fast or just stay on the ground to avoid it). This is SCV Ivy section, though. You should ask about this in SCIV Soul Arena :)

@Kerrod123, yeah you can send it again if you want.

Well, Namco didn't seem to care much after SCIV, only tap into the handheld market. Let's hope they are not wasting resources doing a SC5 port for PSP.

Btw, we should have an official Ivy fanart thread. Body builder Ivy anyone?

In my opinion, Ivy is one of the greatest fighting game characters ever created. So much elegance, stature, and complexity lies within everything about her in general.

Sorry for forgetting to mention that I'm new here everyone. But I'm not new to the series. Too bad that doesn't mean I wouldn't get totally demolished by most of you here, lol. 1996's Soul Edge version 1 changed my life. What a great site this is for SC fans to congregate.

I'm going to try my best to improve my game just so I can get into SC V and have fun with you all.

Welcome to 8WR, Zohar! 8WR is indeed a great site and we are always open for new players. Perhaps you will join the ranks of Ivy's Soul Arena in the future?

I'd also like to thank everyone who participated in the wishlist. It's already looking good, but that doesn't mean it can't look even better (you hear me, Noface? =P)
