SCV Ivy FAQ & General Discussion

You should only be timing it after the first whip hits the ground (after the launcher), after that, just input it straight (base it off the sound of your button presses rather than what you see on the screen).

I might make a video of the exact button presses once I get my setup, but hope that makes sense for now.
What do you mean "input it straight"

Having trouble with Ivy's JF 22(B),B,B,B,B,B any tips on this? Probably input needs to be faster online but I can't pull it off in off training mode...

Okay, hopefully this will explain it.

If you input 22_88 [ B ] then B almost if not immediately, a 1 hit follow-up will happen after the launcher no matter what. That takes two inputs out of the equation.

After that 1 hit follow-up, time the second B as soon as Ivy's whip is directly in front of her. This is the trickiest part of landing the JF consistently.

After that second B, just input the rest of the command based on a beat (that you'll have to find in training mode for yourselves without an audio-visual), not on what you see on the screen. That's what I meant by inputting it straight. The timing doesn't exactly follow Ivy's whip; the inputs are faster -- in fact, if you're doing it right, you'll find that the last JF comes a complete beat before the animation for the guard break comes out.

Hope that helps.

Whats the best way to use 22A. Most of the time when i use it it gets ducked (or TC) and if not catch NH. I thought it was to step catch but i may be wrong?

Sora while think the advise you gave is great for offine, online there is a slight difference in timing that throws you off completely my offline success rafte with 5hit and online success are pretty different.

Idk, I use the same mentality (albeit with adjusting) and get 5 hit online about 50% of the time. Granted, not the most dependable thing in the world, but I'm still learning too. :)

I wanna learn that 22A best uses too. I would think it's to step and punish a vertical move pre-emptively, but the fact that its a high is making me shy away from it.

I thought you would use it that way to but when i have it usually doesnt cause the stun or they duck. With JF i just have to adjust to the online timing, it should come with time.

Am I the only one who misses lick being 8 B+K ? I am not having very much luck with 6+b8.
I have found that so far the best combo I could find was more or less chaining BE on the last combo under the movelist: CH 22_88 AA ~ 66 b A+B+K ~ 6+b8~A+B+K it did 102 dmg for me but I haven't been able to repeat it many times because lick feeling awkward to me.
Just thought I'd share.

I agree
the lick is hard to get used to, however 6B8 has always been the proper way to do the lick since it always did more damage than 8B+K.

Now that 8B+K is gone, it forces you to do it the right way
haha

Just need a bit of practice is all

And oh my god!
Ivy mirror matches take for FREAKING EVER!!
lol
everyone stands back and pokes you to death, what a turtley matchup

It's mostly because of her low damage.. lol Other mirrors are over in 30 seconds, Ivy on Ivy is down to the last 10 every time!

Also, my advice on the 5-Hit, I time it for then she HITS on each Lash. Otherwise, I always thought if you got the timing perfect, you should still have been able to just do it properly online. Can anyone tell me if I'm 100% wrong about that with JF attacks? I never had any difficulty switching from Offline to Online with JFs...

will ivy ever return to her SC2 perfection?
each iteration of her after SC2 is always worse in 1 respect or another.

btw, can you still use guard cancel to link moves? I tried to use spiral dominance GI guard cancel to combo but it doesn't work any more...

Does anybody know what happened to Ivy's move when she use to spin in the air like a ballerina? Cause it looks like they replaced it with piercing bolt :sc2ivy3:

It's still there, they changed it to WR B+K or backturned B+K. (At least I think that is the move you are talking about)

After a 22 [ B ] how viable would it be to mixup between the BBB(BB) and her CS? I can't do it that fast but would someone who can input CS quickly during the upswing be able to land it while the person is blocking to see if the JF Bs are coming out?

Not viable at all.

22_88[ B ] is not a good move aside from whiff punishing -- if I block it, even if you input BBB as fast as you can, I can quick step to your back and do a back throw.

I was asking because I didnt see it in the move set at all. I also noticed that instead of Ivy saying '' I'll treat you right '' She says '' I'll teach you to behave '' and another thing I noticed is that the Edge meter colors in the video above are way different from the color of mine. I think that they must have made last minute touch ups. Sorry about pointing all this out but Im a real Ivy player and I couldnt let this just slip by:sc2ivy3:

I like what all of you have to say so far. I really do hope we get some requests fulfilled in a future patch. Only time will tell but we can be positive and provide quality feedback to project soul's team right? I saw the wishlist was closed already, I hope we can at least be heard.

Overall I would say i enjoy the new ivy but she does not feel.... complete? I may be the only one here who thinks so but I think we can all agree there should be something patched sooner or later right?

I'm having decent success with her as a midrange zoning character (spacing out people with 1A, then hitting them with 6B+K when they try to rush in), but when I start getting rushed down by faster characters like Natsu and the Alexandra family I start to have difficulty. Any suggestions for counters? Fast strings murder me. Her fastest moves like 1B and 3K have such small range and not that much follow up opportunity.

So, if I can consistently get the first two flashes, but not beyond that, what am I doing wrong? Am I doing the first input too soon/late? Something else?
