Soul Calibur 5 Guest/Bonus/CAS Character Discussion

I think we need more differences in facial features. I think we should be able to make unique faces, like in RPG's. Also body hair, height, build, and weight should be elaborated. We need more clothes, slutty, elegant, casual, bla blah blah, as well as better hair styles. All in all I can't play with CAS because it throws my Ivy game off, but I like setsuni.

As much as I hate anime, and as much as I despise the notion of guest characters altogether, Lightning does look like she'd fit in the game stylewise.
What does Lightning have to with anime

Japanese game =/= anime

unless you wanna start calling Soul Calibur and anime fighter

Something about having real characters in a videogame, namely a game I intend to try, just seems wrong to me...

To be more specific, if you use real characters that are connected to actual real events, continuity becomes that much more important, and historical continuity has never been one of the SC strong points. It's important because people will expect certain things, these figures being that much more well known, it makes things a lot more complicated.

Believe me, if they chose this route the shoehorning going on would increase significantly.

And while I'm here, the Star Wars characters were beautifully crafted, a truly magnificent achievement, having managed to blend their weapons and fighting styles into a game that so many are so quick to just dismiss their viability in totally (including myself, before I played the game, not that I didn't think it was an awesome thing to try nonetheless).

TBH though, if we MUST have a guest character, I'd rather a none-of-the-above option, and instead of someone from another video game, how about someone from the historical period that the game takes place in? I'm not so hot on my history, but I know there were some badass warlords and pirates and stuff running around raping and pillaging at this time.

Just from a Swedish perspective:

We do have 14-year old Gustavus Adolphus the Great, The Golden King, Lion of the North. or 25 year old Axel Oxenstierna(The most powerful ruler Sweden ever had).

Or, possibly: Dodo Freiherr zu Innhausen und Knyphausen (sometimes Knijphausen or Kniphausen; 2 July 1583 – 11 January 1636) was a German professional soldier who saw extensive service in the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648), rising to the rank of Field Marshal in Swedish service in 1633.
In 1608, he served the Protestant Union.

Come on, you know you want Dodo!

(And if it MUST be from a video game, how about some people from Dynasty Warriors?

Why not Samurai Warriors, which actually has 1560-1615 as a timeframe?

I really do not care because they prefer the original characters, but I'm not angry to see any additional characters

All of those ideas are awesome. Samurai Warriors, Swedish kings, any of those would be great.

I guess I call FF an anime game because the art looks very anime inspired. Characters with huge spiky hair with giant swords. Of course, so does Soul Calibur's, which is one of the few things I dislike about the game.

Continuity totally goes out the window with guest characters. That's why I hate them so much. But it doesn't matter if you have Alexander the Great or Darth Vader, NEITHER of them belong in the damn game. So they really shouldn't be there. But since they're there, you have no choice but to make up some barely plausible nonsense story about why they're in the game. With Vader it was a dimensional rift or some BS. With Kratos in MK9, it's that Shao Khan uses magic to bring him from the past. With historical figures, it could be the same type of thing. None of it will make much sense, but that's guest characters for you. That's why it would be GREAT if they could pick some characters who you know, were actually around and fighting in the 16th century. What about all the explorers like Ponce De Leon? What about that Korean Admiral who was mentioned in SB?

People expect certain things from historical characters, sure, but not nearly as much as they expect from a character like Darth Vader. You've got Star Wars geeks in their mom's basement eating, breathing and sleeping to Star Wars who would flip their s*** if you misplaced a button on his respirator. You include Julius Caesar and no one's gonna bat an eyelid even if you give him long wavy locks of hair, even if they know the real person was balding.

Why do we HAVE to have someone from a movie or game whose presence makes absolutely no f***ing sense? Because it will make fanboys buy the game. It's sad, but true. Money is more important than continuity.

All these suggestions are lame. What we need is The Scythian from Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP

Ok, I'm calling this one, we only have guests still because it's one of the things that makes SC more then just another fighting game... Why buy SC with a load of old style characters you've never heard of/don't care about when you could buy Tekken or SSF4.

And in my opinion it makes the game better for it, technically, the guests have never been faliures, well, I never played BD, so I'm going to pretend Kratos never happened for the purposes of this (they've been integrated into the actual gameplay well), and while I'm sure many round here might disagree, from a technical standpoint SC3 was... They add something to the gameplay that can't be accomplished with just the barebones weapon fighting standard we all expect.

As far as Vadar goes, the movies never did that well on making him much more then a lumbering giant and a symbol of power through fear, it wasn't until the new movies that the lightsaber combat gathered an identity of it's own, as something more then fencing with lasers. Making him look like Vader was the easy part...

And also, what is it about stabbing, slicing and gutting your opponent, repeatedly round after round (which has been done since Soul Blade, and before guests), that establishes continuity? Making things a little more mysterious adds to the enjoyment and appreciation of the work that's gone into writing the story then making the game.

In that order, from best to worst

1- Give me back Hwang, even 17 years older

2- No useless guest characters

if not possible

3- Ezio from AC2: cool design, can fit with the game (not like Star Wars space laser trash), original style

4- Gatsu/Guts from Berserk. Basically the epic badass that Sieg try to copy, failing

5- The crazy dude from Samurai Champloo, i can see him brawl with Mitsu

6- Gabriel from Castelvania LoS

8- The Prince from PoP Prodigy

9- Zoro from OP. Three Swords Style! But only if they adapt the design, no unfitting (Angol Fear) anime look

10- Kratos (SC:BD) is'nt that bad,but the wings flying thing ingame is just ridicolous.

11- Jubei from Ninja Scroll

Do not want please

-unfitting sci-fi things
-unfitting present days things
-unifitting too much anime things
-unfitting things
-the ridicolous new "Dante"

ps: i know some are not that popular, but that's just what i will like

Because before casuals and noobs SC was a BeU game with his own community that like more it than Tekken or SF?

I think if anything SC V would have a Capcom character what with the whole Tekken x Street fighter thing going on. Mayber Stider or hell why not aurthor just throwing shit at ya? They could even throw in onimusha if they could negotiate with capcom which shouldnt be a problem.

The new Dante looks too emo, I LMAOed at Batman, oh and lets not forget that Heihachi didn't use physical weapons so don't give me that he doesn't have weapons shit. I'm" still sticking to my guns that Namco is going to throw a serious curveball as a guest character; Mario, Mega Man, Snake, John Cena, KOS-MOS or some shit...dead serious.

Personal preference? No guest characters at all, but it has become a staple for SC so if I didn't have a choice.
Video Game wise: I'd go with Altair/Ezio or Prince or Persia protagonist as they would blend in quite nice.

Real Life wise: You can't go wrong with Nobunaga Oda or Ghangis Khan (Just got done playing Onimusha so shoot me)

I wish Project Soul would just render guest characters into their own style. Vader could have been a samurai dressed in black; his helmet does have a kabuto look to it.

MK9 has Kratos. Another stupid guest. I'm 100% positive it's all about money. They know GOW fanboys will say "Oooh! I can punch Scorpion with Kratos! Awesome! I have to get this game!" while the hardcore fans will say, "WTF. He doesn't belong there. Well, I'm still getting the game anyway." and everyone else will just say "Whatever." and will buy it or not buy it regardless. So it's a can't-lose situation for the developers. Frankly, I'm shocked that Tekken and SF haven't included guest characters.

Ok, maybe I'm over-estimating the reading-comprehension skills going on around here...

Or maybe you just aren't bothering, well, let me rectify one thing then, that was a rhetorical, and hypothetical question, attempting to put you into the shoes of someone who hasn't heard of SC/started with SC4 i.e say 90% of the people Namco hope to sell the game to.

And whatever gave you the idea I thought guest characters were the only reason to buy the game... That's again, pretty rhetorical. All I'm trying to say is I find the idea of guests to be refreshing to the overall feel of the game, not that they're the only/best reason to buy it. Personally, I'll be a little taken aback if they put Lightning in just because she's 'hot', as I don't care for FF13, but it won't be the reason I don't buy the game.
