By taking this line of logic, whats to say Xianghua's importance to Kilik at all ? They only were familiar together because of prior cannon / story line.
Maybe she won't return at all (she probably will) but I want to play devil's advocate.
This is an interesting thing to think about, actually. Most people don't usually think much of Xianghua aside from being stuck to Kilik like glue because they don't remember her as the first wielder of Soul Calibur (in relative canon). Most people immediately think of Siegfried when it comes to Soul Calibur being its wielder since he's been stuck with it for two whole games; it even assumed some sort of ownership over him in IV, what with the suddenly crystalline armor.
If we wanted to keep Xianghua in the storyline and pay tribute to the original story while changing it for the reboot, I can almost imagine the game skewing towards Xianghua as Soul Calibur's new host while Siegfried/Nightmare continues to be that for Soul Edge. Kilik becomes the middle ground between the two powers, as he normally has been, what with having the Dvapara-Yuga and Kali-Yuga.
