Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Yeah the chakram is awesome. Lord knows how it would be used in SC :/ Maybe part of her CE.

This was so random that for a few seconds I thought it was a leaker confirming Amy is in :P Thanks for that.

Xena would be a great character for many reasons but rather random and not current, so not popular enough unfortunately. Are there any similar-ish characters that are more current?

How long until the pipes break?
Hopefully soon, I finally bought the game today and will need to know who's in the SP soon.
One of the positives about the game is that the lighting is pretty good. I feel as if V took being dark a bit too literally.
The lighting is pretty good, one of the few graphical high points of this game. I'm also a fan of the visual organization of the generic stages like the desert, field, and especially forest.
To quote a wise man:
Oh yah, got to love the thinly veiled "I want more diversity" when what what people really want to say is "I want more black characters"

Who knew the Eurasian fantasy would focus primarily in Europeans and Asians.
The stretching here makes Dhalsim jealous.

Still not having a Middle Easterner, proper Scandinavian (Groh is certainly not included in that), Slav or Russian, Indian, African (of any sort), or (relevant) Native American in a game with a setting that makes all of those regions very culturally and geographically relevant (Hell, half of the Asian story takes place in India) is a very odd inconsistency. I can understand this not really being addressed in SCVI as it's a SCI remake of sorts, the series hasn't really tried to introduce any obviously "ethnic-y" characters since Zas in SCIII, and we've seen no "world warrior" type characters since Raph and Talim in SCII over a decade and a half ago.

Look, I don't know where this problem comes from. But more often than not, this "forcing diversity gets in the way of a good story!" example falls flat on my ears, as a gay person who is still kind of struggling with their gender identity.
All of this being said, the number of females in the roster isn't a huge issue to me but I would like more. Overall, I just hope the DLC ends up having a few and that we get popular and varied characters more than anything else. I played NieR: Automata recently and I am now a staunch advocate for 2B.
The issue with the "forcing diversity" is when the writers/developers/directors are incapable of handling characters of "diversity" in a manner that actually works. Too often these types of characters are given a "token" role and are simply there to fulfill an agenda to get more sales. Often times these characters are completely misrepresented or made into a joke character to laugh at rather than with. It's one of the reasons I enjoyed DQ11 so much as they have an obviously gay character but it is never brought up and while they fulfill the jester role the characters don't laugh at him but with him. The characters treat him no differently and they don't put an emphasis on something that doesn't need it. He's a great character because his entire arc does not revolve around being ostracized or looked at differently but rather deals more with duty and family. There is a different discussion to be had altogether on the topic of "token" characters but personally I'd rather no representation in a game than bad representation that perpetuates negative stereotypes. Now this has very little to do with Soul Calibur unless they wanted to throw a character from that game as a guest character (probably not big enough in the west...it is huge in Japan though) so allow me to return a bit more to topic.
Put my thoughts on the diversity issue in a spoiler because while it has a tiny bit of relevance I'm sure people are tired of reading about people's opinions on it.

Getting back on topic I am curious why people believe they've seen the entire story of the game already to my knowledge it has not been released anywhere right? I thought they only released the first 15 or so minutes of a few soul chronicles and about 20-30 minutes of libra of souls. Surely the rest of the game hasn't been spoiled already or we would be discussing other characters that appear in the story mode but that are not playable.

There's not much time left before release we can probably expect them to announce the DLC a week after release, the opening for the game either the thursday before release or this upcoming thursday, and we can expect them to finally fill in the coming soon details of the website (regardless of whether we already know it or not; it must be completed). What else can we expect before the release there is no chance of anything getting changed, they could hold a second network test to iron out some issues but Inferno was likely the last 'surprise'. Unless of course there is a bonus character unlocked for doing everything in libra of souls mode (Lizardman was an unlockable in the first two games and I could see them keeping with that tradition) but then we wouldn't find out about this until release.

The game will be out before we know it and then we'll see we had nothing to worry about.

White characters is SC6:
Siegfried
Raphael
Groh
Aswel
Geralt
Sophitia
Tira
Ivy.. ish.

Let's bear in mind that despite being white, each character brings something unique to the game.

Everyone else is non-white/other ethnicities not even touched by other video games. Y'all shut the fuck up now, this is a super non-argument. Not every game needs the whole rainbow.

Would Soul Calibur benefit from the addition of other ethnic martial arts and styles? Absolutely. But to act like they are missing from the game and should have always been there is asinine beyond my ability to fathom

Not exactly a great feat. If you don't care, then move on. I don't give a fuck what you think is or isn't an argument.

I care because I have to slog through years of this idiocy, and so does everyone else. Keep making this about you, though.
Except you don't.

You chose to read through comments of people who want to see other cultures in a world warrior style game, get offended, and subsequently deem yourself as the arbiter of what constitutes as acceptable in a general discussion topic in the most abrasive way possible.

Is calling people "offended" some kind of roast all the kids are using now? Listen, I didn't *choose* anything. I'm not the arbiter of anything. What I am, is tired of what this thread has been for the past 50 pages when all I wanna do is engage in discussion about one of my favorite franchises of all time.

Christ I hope you play on PC so we can settle this like adult men.

I think SC6 has already a lot of variety. Could it have more variety? Yeah sure (like any game actually) but for a 20 characters the roster of the game have a lot of variety especially compare to games like SFV (Blond City) or MKX (Ninja City) (Not hate and i even like those 2 last games but... just saying)

Yes, I'll be on PC. Not that winning or losing settles anything. You'll still be the same guy with the same obtuse opinions, just better or worse at a video game than I am. Whatever. Moving on.

I still hope they can work in characters from the Muhgal and Ayutthaya empires, as well as a true Ottoman empire representative (a Jannisary would work well) at some point. Groh is a trash design representative of nothing and I think Project Soul can do better (his fighting style is dope though).

wait... Voldo ain't white now?

...anyways you know how much they are promoting Nightmare-Kun could we perhaps get that character in the game as a bonus character. I find it highly unlikely that they would put so much effort into a character and not have them be playable. Most people would probably consider her to simply be a Nightmare clone but they don't have to. Perhaps her critical edge could be something with a bunch of roast beef sandwich boxes or that could be her true form when her armor is knocked off. They could give her some of rock and lizardman's old moves and could have her be a special unlockable for completing everything there is to do in the game. Nightmare-Kun could also bring more female characters into the game like everyone wants as well as she would be a female Nightmare. They have been promoting this character pretty heavily on twitter and at special events I don't think this is completely impossible. Looking forward to the Nightmare-Kun announcement next weekend at the Battle Prologue...it should give us something to talk about if nothing else.

JOKING!

The problem here is that instead of looking at a character as their own selves, with their own motives and ideologies behind them, you choose to view them as a representative of where they are from, even calling for literal stereotypes.. And somehow I'm the obtuse one...

With Assassin's Creed Odyssey and God Of War that would be great if we'll have a new Character based on Spartan Era. Just thinking about that spartan kick that would easily ring out is exciting (It even seems to be easily one of the best move in AC Odyssey haha)

Maybe not for SC6 but after (SC6 season 2 or a future SC game)

Your problem is that you don't think characters from those regions would be anything other than stereotypes, devoid of their own backstories. Having characters from more than just one place is part of the Soul series' DNA and charm from day one. Somehow, when people want more Greek or German or Japanese characters, it doesn't bother you. You can accept that those characters belong and have something to offer. So why is it that asking for characters from certain regions triggers you?

So yes, either you're being obtuse or purposely intellectually dishonest. Respond back or don't, I'm done doing this song and dance with you.

"GROH DOESN'T REPRESENT SHIT (like at this point I have to ask what representation even means and why does Groh have to stand as some kind of representative of the Netherlands even though he's just from there) LET'S GET A FUCKING JANISSARY IN HERE BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONLY KIND OF FIGHTING MAN I CAN FATHOM FROM THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE"

Keep going dude, this is great.
