Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Just over half of the characters in the game so far have their own gameplay quirks that make them unique and are specific to them. The ones we've already seen are:

  • Nightmare obtaining SC-like properties after utilizing his shockwave moves
  • Siegfried automatically entering an SC-like state (Dark Legacy) when at 30% HP or lower + getting access to some of Nightmare's moveset (dunno if this is exclusive to DL or both that and SC)
  • Zasalamel and his curse (still have no idea what it does)
  • Taki and Mekki-maru inflicting insane chip damage
  • Geralt and his signs (at least one of which can be boosted by spending 20~%? meter)
  • Yoshimitsu, in addition to fucking with HP bars, can also drain meter/convert HP into meter
  • Grøh getting screen-wide teleportation in SC
  • Ivy and some rooting shenanigans with her insta-runes
  • Talim gaining a stance (Air Rage) that lets her use wind to boost her attacks
  • Kilik having two CEs, one of which is only accessed by going into his SC (which drains HP instead of meter)
But then there's characters like Mitsurugi, Maxi, Xianghua, and Sophitia whose special properties (if they even have any) are still up in the air. Does anyone have any ideas as to what kind of unique quirks they have?

Characters seem to fall into three, maybe four types when it comes to Soul Charge.

Transformation (Nightmare, Groh, Kilik)
Enhancement (Mitsurugi, Xianghua, Sophitia, Maxi, Siegfried)
Wildcard (Taki, Ivy, Zasalamel, Yoshimitsu)

Though, obviously, everyone fits under enhancement. Most of the changes in SC are visual rather than anything else. Only Kilik seems stuck with the health drain effect. I don't know if they'll keep that on a character that's intended to be beginner friendly.

Either way, Soul Charge mainly gives access to Brave Edge like moves not normally available in normal state. And the damage bonuses offered from these moves. Every character introduced thus far has them and some get a little extra (Yoshimitsu getting to restore bits of his health along with Talim, supposedly).

Mod note:

Keep "relevant to the plot" discussions in the fanfic section from now on. These are never supported well and only exist to push your own agenda.

Much like the it's a sc1 reboot line of thinking.

It's a waste of time and energy. Knock it off.

Fair, but that could be said of literally 95% of the conversation that happens here. You just singled out that one because you personallyfound it annoying.

It's non constructive. It just goes like this:

"I sure hope Yakkon is in it"
"He's not big in the story. He's out."
"He is too!"

Not that characters have ever needed strong reasons or super tight relevance to be in the story much less the game. Hwang was only there to chase after MiNa. That was the depth of his story. So his presence in multiple games despite not being a primary character renders the "argument" self nulling.

Further guess who controls the story? Not you. Namco does. Characters can be written in and given as big or little role as they please. So there's no structural argument to be had.

It's just wishful thinking vs wishful thinking.

You don't like Apta, cool. Just don't invent reasons from thin air as if that's a valid reason for telling someone you don't personally like their favorite character.

I'm not one for heavy handed moderation, but I'll say that the following subjects have been beat to DEATH and need to not be brought up again (and again and again and again...) lest the mods cleanse the thread with fire:
  • Raph Vs Amy
  • Lore relevance of unrevealed characters
  • Poll results
  • Armchair game dev complaining
  • Clone(s)
  • Style "uniqueness"
  • Leaks from Reddit/4Chan/Gamefaqs

And that's fine. I get why it's annoying and I 100% agree with your logic. I think it's pretty dumb. But you have to consider that you're a moderator and this is general discussion. Nobody is actually breaking any rules.

That's one of the perks of being a mod. I have amended the rules. Pray I don't amend them further. (Technically I'm not since the rules allow for this already. Just wanted to quote Vader.)

The whole point is to facilitate productive conversation. If some topics have proven to be disruptive and annoying it's best to discourage such topics in the future. Especially when they appear with annoying frequency.

Not like I'm threatening to ban people. Just if your pointless argument get deleted, that's why. If there is an especially persistent person, we'll be looking into infractions like we do with any annoying user.

Did we ever get a particular reason for the Koreans being left out of SCV without even 1 replacement rep? Or is it still just left up to guessing? Because if there was a reason beyond simple time constraints the same could happen again.
  • Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–98) :sc2mit2:x:sc3hwang1:
  • SC 5 timeline 1607 A.D.

You mean Nightmare has Terror Charge gives him access to Soul Charge Enhancements: 2A+B on Grounded Opponents, 6A+B, 6A(Revenge), 6B(Revenge), 6K(Revenge), RE K, CH 4KK, Soul Charge/Terror Charge GS AA, & When a Soul Charge Moves isn't used it goes to Terror Charge,

Siegfried gets a few more Lethal Hit oppertunities like CH 3(B)_JMP (B)_WS (B)_33_99(B) in Dark Legacy or use 6A+B to get rid of it when it become Nightmare's 6A+B.

Zas' curses with Time Stop with RE B, 1B, or 66A+B. He can have up to 3 curses per round.

Mitsurugi, X, Sophitia, & Ivy just have normal Soul Charge Enhancements.

Maxi has PSL (Neutral) that can aGI High & Mid Weapon Horizontals & can give Maxi stance buffs like BL B causing Lethal Hit.

At least for Xianghua I suppose that somewhere during the storyline she obtains Soul Calibur, which could give her some perks...? Maybe...? I can only hope, but I can live with her jk mixups. She is interesting enough.
Only Kilik seems stuck with the health drain effect. I don't know if they'll keep that on a character that's intended to be beginner friendly.
I think that it's precisely this function that will bestow newbies with a sense of responsibility when handling great power. If people like having things easy, then they are playing the wrong game.

Raphael already has his own style and he represents fencing better than Amy anyway. Her moves wouldn't even fit him because they are too feminine for him and they aren't going to waste resources for making new animations when they can simply keep his style as is. This is aside from my own bias of course, I would never want them to mix styles like this. And please spare me the 'to make him more viable' bullshit, his SCV moveset is far from weak.
Couldn't agree more. Yeah Raph with Amy's moveset...that's just silly and dum asf. Gross! I won't say Raph doesn't have anything going for him, but I really think they could improve upon his fighting style in SCVI. I would like ta see project soul go back to the drawing board with him personally. Can't wait to see what they could do with Raph if he's in.

Is it just me or does the e3 build feature less of that inelegant (and illogical) pant & footwear breakage? If so, I am really glad they fixed that.

yeah SOON™ at least i hope so cus its one thing saying "hey i have some leaks" and telling us right away an its another saying "hey i have some leaks" and then making us wait. i mean i appreciate it but if you have something to say pls just say it, dont tease us like that my old heart cant take the wait of SC 6 already and you come here and do me like that man.

I just had recently some new sources confirming some of the last unrevealed character that were already leaked by Vergeben. So it wasn't a big deal but since I haven't crossed my sources about all the leaked characters yet it was still a good info. I hinted one of them somewhere ;). Also it seems that the next character reveal is also hinted by Okubo but it's subtle.

Na SCV Raph is the worst version yet...

He definitely needs more options and his stances back... Taking some moves from Amy isn't a bad idea at all.
At least give him back his moves and stances from SC2-4

Look, I was being hyperbolic earlier and do not mean that posts should be actively censored.

You probably don't remember but I was one of the more vocal proponents of free, and unregulated posting in the last general thread, the one that got locked.

I'm just getting tired of the same people having the same arguments over the same subjects over and over again. Can't we get some subject variety to ease the wait until release day?

@Apoc Revolution
Do not be disheartened by the lack of vision of these people, my dear nemesis. Let your rapier speak for you. Too bad you don't take part in tournaments so that you can show the world what Raph really can do, though.
