Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I always felt this type of argument was a huge cop out against Groh.

His Costume is not anymore absurd than Maxi's, for example, it is just a garb with light armor on it, which for a assassin is nothing particularly absurd. Tira costume in III was actually her Bird of Passage Uniform tore down and Amy is dressed as a ballerina doll.

Personality wise, he has nothing to do with Z.W.E.I or Patroklos, the first was relaxed, playful and even solidary and the later was angry, self righteous and cocky.

From what we've seem, outside his interactions with Azwel, Groh is collected, cold and melancholic. You don't have to like him, but whenever people say it is because he feels out of place, it sounds like they want a reason to dislike him, rather than have a reason to dislike him.
What you just described is literally the mid point between both personalities. As for out of place I mean the feeling he gives off. Is hard to explain just a feeling. I don't just mean his looks by themselves. Look everyone has characters they like and dislike. Is worse than my dad telling me I need to recognize Michael Jackson as a talented performer when his music causes me to cringe everytime I hear it.

That is what I'm saying, you can freely dislike him, but saying he is out of place, on itself, is kinda silly when there are so many outrageous characters in the roster.

And I don't think so, in fact, if I had to pick one character Groh is the most like, that one would be Ivy, but not sexy or sultry.

Groh sucks mostly because twinblades suck. I really dont understand the popularity. Maybe for children its a cool idea but as soon as you start applying a very basic level of thought to it, it starts to look real stupid. You cant even swing that thing directly in front of you without cutting yourself.

This damn thing skyrocketed into popularity from Darth Maul but the only reason he could even properly swing with the thing was because the handle was extra long to get proper leverage. Even then it was absurd nonsense. Put two guys on either side, whichever side the blade is lifted, the other side must go in the opposite direction. Means you have no options, so that whole thing is just stupid.

I like Groh as a character and playstyle. Even tho we don't know that much about him, he still looks and plays more interestingly than any of the new characters/styles we got in SCV. He doesn't seem as useless as Z.W.E.I or as broken as Viola. Seems like a perfect balance to me.

Imagine weilding Ivy's blade.

Just look at it as a two-sided shortened helbard instead of a sword.
Which also has a good flexibility of being turned into two separate swords.
It's just cool and nothing else. I personally wanted that weapon in SC for quite some time.

Imagine weilding Ivy's blade.

Its a whip that goes back to a sword on command. I'd say its less dangerous to her than a standard whip or chain because she can instantly change its form.

Its important to note i'm not necesarilly talking about realism being the issue. If Groh levitated the twin blade like his dad and didnt directly swing it so much, then i would be fine with it.

Using magic to explain things is fine. I have an issue with the weapon being just a twinblade that he somehow awkwardly swings and fights with when everytime i look at it, it just looks impossible.

talking about something awkward and impossible, have you ever looked at Siegfried ? huge ass sword made of metal and swinging it left and right, up and down like its nothing i mean come on nobody should be able to do that, unless your name is Guts. Kappa

I'll give you that, i've always wanted that a bit smaller but... the oversized swords are absurdly popular and common. Far moreso than twinblades. So i feel that has more of an excuse to get a pass.

Well, he is inspired by Guts.

People talking about absurdity of weapons... are you aware than *ANY* weapon attack would most likely be fatal yet they keep on slashing and stabbing each other until one starts spinning and screaming before starting another match after agreeing on standing at the same place?

But yeah, twinblades, o so absurd...
Personally, I only care about how good a move/combo looks, and the frame data... Aswel and Cerv seem to have some amazing setups in their reveal trailers.

SoulCalibur seems to have lost it's spirit and meaning to the current generation. This video showcases the real essence of SoulCalibur:

Reminds me of all the early reviews back when SC2 was coming out to PS2. "Where's muh realism" and "Swords in tummy would kill instantly" as far as the eye can see. I thought we were past that point by now.

We could always have a Bushido Blade 3 though, like, I wouldn't mind one bit.

I feel like Grøh’s appeal is to be like such a chuunibyou. His color scheme is black and purple, he changes colors when he Soul Charges, and he can teleport and use demonic powers. His bio even states that he had his twinblade commissioned because it’s the most efficient and effective form of the Aval Twinblade fighting style and he’s the only one that can do it. Plus, he literally says “Special attack!” when doing some of his moves. He’s a bit of a caricature or an archetype, the same way Ivy and Voldo are of a generic BDSM character, or Amy is of a gothic lolita, or Maxi of a hybrid Bruce Lee/Elvis Presley-inspired character.
