It is generally a good idea to look at the Story Mode list and get a sense of who remains on that roster to understand who could be com8ng and who wouldn’t.

It is also a good idea to err on the safe side and expect the bare minimum of character slots available, that way, any additional announcements are an extra surprise.

Here is what we know:

There are 3 slots left on the story mode roster. We know that Cervantes is coming and he is likely to have a Story Mode. Thus we can infer that he will take up a slot on the story mode roster. That leaves only two slots left.

Note the spacing on those slots, there isn’t enough characters to fit another long name. Cervantes is eight characters, Raphael is seven characters, Cassandra is also eight characters in length. Since we know Cervantes is coming back, he will likely take the longest name left in the slots.

This means, that Raphael, and Cassandra are very likely out of the running since there are no slots left to fit them into the current story mode. The names have to be short enough to fit the remaining slots and they have to be characters we know that could be capable of getting a Story Mode. Of those that are short enough, they are...

Hilde, Hwang, Rock, Aeon.

Let’s not drift into speculation about whether another newcomer is going to fit in there just yet. Though possible, I find it rather unlikely right now.

Of these characters, who has the best chances of fitting those last two slots? Hwang is strongly hinted at in Mina’s profile and isn’t specifically named. Rock was in the original Soul Calibur and SC6 is a reboot. Aeon, also was in SC1; and is also featured on the villains gallery with Nightmare and the others. Hilde was seen only in SC4 and SC5, though she could fit similar to Talim at the tail end of the SC1 story, she still seems the least likely.

Aeon probably wouldn’t give a very good story line, His transformation predates SE, his mind is mostly monthrous thought now and may not make the best story mode subject, but Astaroth is similar (though more coherent).

This leaves Rock; a returner from previous games, missing only one game (SC5). Though his style is similar to Astaroth and Namco is trying to avoid clones, it could still be possible to bring him in for the game.

What’s left would be bosses, Inferno for one story mode and the Indian Fu Manchu for the second. Though either one could be dropped in favor of something else. I still get this feeling that the Indian Fu Manchu is simply a CAS preset.

It is possible that one story mode slot could fit a new character, and it is possible to still be completely wrong on everything. But I think the best odds right now are Rock, Hwang and Cervantes. We’ll see soon enough

Kayane's recent interview just now confirms he's going to be playable :)

The thing is, though, if Tira isn't the name below Sophitia like I've surmised in the past, and she's confirmed to get a story, then what we know about the blurred names is not a limiting factor anymore. It's just as incomplete and inconclusive as the character roster screen is and has room to grow. I would even go so far as to say every character will get a story, no matter how small. Look at how short and insignificant that Talim's story will be. Anything is possible.

Out of the 6 remaining slots 2 have practically been confirmed. Cervantes and the wizard guy. That leaves 4 remaining (3 if Tira takes up a slot as DLC or 2 if worst comes to worst and CaS takes a slot).

I think the 4th slot is already taken by Tira or CaS. So my hope for the remaining 3 are:

Cassandra
Raphael
Yun-Seong (I can see him being replaced by Hwang though)

The remaining 3 DLC characters being Setsuka, Hilde, and a guest.

That makes the most sense to me based on the popularity of the characters and that the story encompasses all of SC1 and SC2. The sad thing is that some characters are likely not going to be in the game at all or maybe be Season 2 DLC if we're lucky enough to get that.

Amy being introduced in SC3 and not making sense being in the game timeline-wise, unfortunately puts her on the chopping block
Rock is not very popular and sadly I don't see a good reason why he should take the place of other more popular characters.
Hwang could go either way.
I feel like Lizardman is CaS now as that makes most sense to the story, especially if they aren't goinmg to give him double axes.

I'm pretty sure that was a flub in the Gamescom interview yesterday about SoulCalibur II's full story being included. The timeline space for 1590 is so small, there's no way that they will be including that. It's from the end of SoulBlade to the beginning of SoulCalibur II.

SoulCalibur II is mentioned because it was the best in series.

It would make sense that SoulCalibur 2's space is small because SC2, SC3, and SC4 all took place in the same year timeline wise. If they are only doing all of SC1 and SC2 then SC2's story only takes up a couple of months at best.

On the timeline there's a character who's story points are closely groped together at the end. Most think that will be Talim's and that makes sense as the events of SC2 are incredibly short.

Pre-SCII makes sense for Siegfried being free from Soul Edge for a short time & Talim's leaving her village.

I just remembered how people were using the lizardman race and the below picture as proof that the actual Lizardman (with a capital L) isn't in the game and is just a CAS. Well, allow me to retort with proof of my own that he IS in the game!

It was pointed out that Lizardman in past games held onto his ax/sword with his left hand, while the one above is holding an ax with his right (like Sophitia), saying that if it were his style that he wouldn't be holding it that way. I agree... as in, that particular lizardman is mimicking Sophitia. But that must mean he's out, right?

Let's look at that artwork from a while back again...

Upon inspection, you'll notice that Lizardman in the left picture on the right, is holding a sword with his LEFT HAND. As in, he's holding it exactly the way he did in all of his appearances. Also, the sword is bigger than Sophitia's, too big to be a mere duplicate. That, and he has too much detail even from what little we've seen of him to just say he's a CAS.

Verdict: Just because we have generic lizardmen doesn't mean we don't have the Lizardman.

Expect him to be announced before the game launches.

HOLD IT!

Just because Lizardman appears in a story step doesn't mean he will be a full-fledged character and not a CaS, otherwise that would mean we would have Rothion as a full character too!
Does Rothion have official artwork in the way Lizardman does? Or is he portrayed with a unique style? Or does he have a precedent for appearing in Soulcalibur games? All of these boxes are ones that Lizardman checks out.

The Lizardmen in the History trailer, the generic ones I mean, also use their sword in inverted hands. Also, the Lizardman using Sophitia's style has a axe weapon, which means Sophitia herself might get that weapon as an extra, which wouldn't make sense if Lizardman himself is in the game.

Trying to disprove circumstantial evidence with your own set of circumstantial evidence is a bad move, because both can have several "buts" attached to them, in fact I would go even further and say that since yours is based on art, which can be affect by several factors, including artist vision, yours bear less weight. I'm not saying he is in or out, but the whole "HE GOT A BIGGER SWORD SO HE MUST BE IN" never made sense and it is largely based in one panel in a story mode trailer.

Um, just look at him, the style looks nothing like Sophitia. Are you trying to say he'll appear, but will never be fought? It makes no sense. You don't cut out someone who fills a unique roll like him, after you showed him in the story.

Lizardman doesn't have any official artwork for SCVI, while Rothion could be a new character: he could have an original fighting style, appear in his first game (so no need for precedent).

So far, Rothion checks exactly the same boxes as Lizardman :)

What style? All I see is a picture that tells us next to nothing, especially now that there is a possibility Lizardman could be a CaS creation.
Sophitia's style doesn't even fit a normal human male. Can't really see Lizardman just imitate Sophitia's girly moves and not have his savage ones. The artist made that interpretation most likely off of something he was shown. This is going to look pretty funny later once Lizardman gets revealed.

I'm going to end this by saying he could easily be just CaS parts with no issue at all, or he could be in the game. There is no way of knowing until the reveals are over. I believe that it's likely he will be CaS created as that makes the most sense to me for reasons I've already gone over in this thread. We'll know for sure in a month or sooner.
