My current (less optimistic and maybe more realistic) expectations:

Podcast 2018-08-24 07-20-18-760.jpg

Garfield is Mr Wizard Dude (aka Azwel). CAS is bottom left. Inferno is bottom. Like with Vader/Yoda in SC4 and Dampierre in SC5, Tira's slot is blank until you buy her. Once unlocked, middle slot becomes a drop-down menu for bonus/DLC characters.

Podcast 2018-08-24 07-21-12-154.jpg

Entire starting roster has story modes except for Inferno. If not owned, DLC characters don't show up on the timeline at all.

If this roster is true, then the starting roster has a size of 22 (if we include Inferno and Tira). WIth 3 more DLC characters, the full roster will be 25 characters. This would make it the smallest roster size in the series since SC1. And that's with DLC characters! Granted, it can be a little bit hard to compare roster size with all the mimic and bonus characters in various games.

This is mostly based on the Azwel leak which I'm starting to trust is pretty accurate when it comes to representing the day one roster. And I hope it isn't true as I would like to see a much bigger roster than this.

Ok, let's actually analyze this bitch frame by frame.

  • Frame 1: at first glance this looks just like like Sophitia's idle stance. It could also be a transitional frame from a shared move, like AA or something, which he whiffed right before the start of the shot. Inconclusive by itself, but clearly not representative of the entire animation as we can see with the rest of the frames next to it.
  • Frame 2: Another transitional frame.
  • Frames 3 and 4: these look identical to his SC1 idle.
  • Frame 5 and 6: I've already compared these to Sophitia's and old Lizzy's block stances, and they look pretty different, especially the position of the arms.
This analysis paints a very different picture from the single frame people have been posting. I'm a bit more optimistic about his chances now, though of course we'll have to see.

Comparison using SC4 (Lizardman is flipped to make him appear righthanded).

It's a weird comparison as the blocking animation shown in the SC6 trailer doesn't match either perfectly. It's a bit off compared to Sophitia, and he's holding the shield a bit too low compared to actual Lizardman. And then there's the whole lefthanded thing. Maybe there is a chance that he's something like an SC3 bonus character where he's a combination of Sophitia with some of Lizardman's old animations?

If they made him righthanded to match up with how he looked in SC1, then I'll feel better about him being a proper character in this. Your theory about the Sophitia pose being the end of an attack sounds plausible. It's impossible to tell in the video what exact state he's in as we start seeing him as he starts going from what looks like idle to block.

Would his axe, assuming he's using Aeon's style, really clip like that though? I do know that Aeon would have a sword...

...Unless it's Cassie...
Not Cassandra as she's got the same block animation as Sophitia.

A drop down menu coming from the middle and overlapping what's beneath isn't as clean as the circles on the side.

I really hope there's more than just 3 more reveals for main story, but it might be that way based off the screens of that timeline. They can always add more to that timeline though, it's fairly easy...

Those circles on the side are obscured by the colour selection menu after you select a character, so that makes me think those circles have no practical use. Middle slot could work the same way as the bonus slot in SC4 where the menu appears over the 1P/2P character. To be honest, I'm not sure how else they can represent DLC/bonus characters as they would have a hard time fitting in more slots without obscuring something. The best theory I've heard is that they could move the banner with character names further down so they can fit one more row of characters, but I'm thinking most (if not all) of the UI design we're seeing is final.

As much as I like Mi-Na, it feels like Cassandra has the same personality as her more or less. Same with Yun-Seong being like pre-Nightmare Siegfried.
They're definitely closer in personality than other female characters, but I wouldn't say they're the same personality-wise. I've always considered Cassandra to be more mischevious, and a bit silly and clumsy, while Mi-na seems more serious or friendly overall. Cassandra has quite a few silly moves (several moves where she attacks the opponent with her butt and several moves where she slaps or bangs the shield in a silly way against the opponent), and we've had story stuff where Cassandra is represented with a silly/playful role (like Broken Destiny's story or SC3's ending). She also seems more willing to taunt or boast. I feel those things would be very out of place for Mi-na if she did the same.

For a long time I thought the circle on the left could possibly represent a character that had the same fighting style (astaroth - Rock, Hwang - Yun-Seong, Raphael - Amy). I don't think that will be the case anymore but it would have been nice.

I still think that one of the circles will be bonus characters, and the other one will be custom characters. They just beg to be submenus, and if they didn't have a purpose, then they wouldn't exist. They wouldn't just create them to mess with speculators, would they?

Ok, let's actually analyze this bitch frame by frame.
If you go frame by frame on Sophitia's guard animation you will see it is different, she hunches, bring the slightly sword down to her side and bring it back up. In past games her guard animation had she raising both Sword and Shield but it is different for this one.

I would agree, if the circles weren't a later addition, they were added along with the new slots.

They can always change the layout as there is a lot of blank space between the circles. Also, it's preferable to cover a small part of the character preview than to cover selection options.

The layout really doesn't make sense as is, and gives no room for DLC, but there's clearly more people to be revealed. This can't be the final layout. And the random slot in the bottom right is way too weird. That's either a mimic or Tira IMO.

Wizardman is probably the bottom middle, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's the top left with Kayane getting from that interview that he could possibly be viewed as good and the top row seems reserved for those boss level power levels. Still wouldn't be surprised if Mi-na is actually on the right side. Those dots make sense for CaS. I think it's funny how they revealed Inferno a real long time ago and no one bothered to ask Okubo about that. I mean, he gave up that Wizardman was playable pretty easily lol, if someone asked about Inferno that would've made some of this speculation a lot easier.

Interesting that people are complaining about roster size. I still think there's a possibility they have people with similar styles sharing slots, but I wonder if those people are more focused on a number and just want quantity over quality, because all of the other SCs had a ton of pointless characters.

Code:
Raphael Siegfried Zasalamel Nightmare Cervantes
Xianghua Maxi Sophitia Astaroth Ivy
Yoshimitsu Kilik Random Grøh Voldo
Rock/Cass Mitsurugi Geralt Taki Lizardman
Talim Hwang/Yun Wizardman Seong Mi-na Tira

How in the world does a submenu covering something that when that submenu is open becomes irrelevant have any impact on the use and purpose of a thing outside said submenu? Is not like you need access to those buttons while the submenu for color selection is open.

You still have two Takis. :sc1tak1::sc5nat1:

But really, if you want a tip, make it in Notepad first, using spaces, not tabs, and then copy and paste it into the code block, and it will come out aligned.

Code:
Raphael Siegfried Zasalamel Nightmare Cervantes
Xianghua Maxi Sophitia Astaroth Ivy
Yoshimitsu Kilik Inferno Grøh Voldo
New female Mitsurugi Geralt Taki Lizardman
Talim Hwang Wizard Seong Mi-na Random
CAS DLC

Eh, probably as good as it'll get for me.

Is this what you're going for?

Code:
     Raphael Siegfried Zasalamel Nightmare Cervantes
     Xianghua Maxi Sophitia Astaroth Ivy
     Yoshimitsu Kilik Inferno Grøh Voldo
New Female Mitsurugi Geralt Taki Lizardman
CaS Talim Hwang Wizardman Seong Mi-na Random DLC

Mention any SC character and you'll see people asking for them to return. I don't think it's a bad idea to hope for as many characters to return. It's a surefire way to ensure there will be more returning fans.

Depending on what they do with the Cervantes leak I think will determine exactly what we can expect for the rest of the game. If they save Cervantes for TGS (and don't reveal any surprises before that) then that will mean they have nothing else to show at TGS that would get people excited. While I hope dearly that all the spots on the character select screen are not DLC I can't help but worry.

Cervantez was leaked apparently, Raphael seems like a guarantee at this point, considering he's made an appearance in every game.

Cassandra is looking like DLC, I don't seem them not having her in the game at all. She seems too popular to axe. I would like to see some of PAT's moves incorporated into her, like 66B perhaps? maybe also 66 B+K?

Lizardman I'm indifferent to. Seems like he should be in the game as a proper playable character though. He seems popular enough but then again I have no idea how he fared in the popularity poll.

This wizardman Azwell or whatever looks intriguing, As long as we don't get projectiles or orbs I'm OK with a magic based character. I would like him to be a necrid type character where he manifests different weapons borrowing moves from all characters. They've only done this once, and I loved Necrid!
