Steampunk and Clockwork Characters

Would you like a steampunk or clockwork character?

Steampunk is awesome. But rather than having a steampunk character I'd like to see Dampierre get a steampunk themed outfit, along with a steampunk top hat.

Or perhaps even just CaS parts, that way we can make any character look steampunk themed.

I, too, would love for her to return, but unfortunately she will not because Namco does not own the rights to her character. She was designed for Namco by an outside artist, Ito Ōgure, also nown as "Oh! Great".

I understand what you are saying, and provide you with three counter-arguements:

1. The steampunk characters could use their advanced technology to come to Europe, or Earth, from a faraway land that has steampunk technology.

2. Clockwork did exist at this time, as proven by Asholette. She was a beautiful character and no one complained that she was out of place.

3. Aeon the Lizardman
Olcadan the owl
Ivy the never aging woman
Z.W.E.I the werewolf
Viola the woman with a floating orb
Nightmare the (formerly) living suit of armor
Raphael the resurrected vampire
Zasalamel the eternaly reincarnating immortal man
Asholette the clockwork woman
Voldo the... well... uh...
Schezerdale the elf
Every boss character
Yoshimitsu the man with the clockwork arm
Astaroth the 6' 8" 7 year old
Cervantes the zombie ghost pirate
Dampierre the village idiot and smartest con man ever
Spawn the demonic comic book character
Link the hylian elf
The Star Wars characters from a galaxy far, far away

A steampunk, and especially a clockwork character, would not be that peculiar among this cast

1. But in Soulcalibur, that technology wouldn't exist. People still use horseback in SC, while they're able to use cars, trains, automatons, and zeppelins in steampunk.

2. There's more to steampunk than clockwork. It's in an industrial setting and uses early vehicles.

3. I see what you mean: in a game with fantasy characters, a steampunk character seems okay, right? But some of the characters you mentioned weren't planned by Namco and came from other artists. The guests and the anime artist characters had little to no impact on the story (although Asholette is debatable). The game was also meant to be a "historical fantasy," which was the reason why the Star Wars character felt so out of place as characters from science fiction.

1. But they could come from an undiscovered continent or planet where they have future technology.

2. So we can have clockwork characters, like Asholette.

3. Clockwork would still fit in, and steampunk is much closer to Soulcalibur's time period than Star Wars.

As someone who personally dislikes this style, nnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooo0o0ooo thank you.

Well like I said in another post, I'd love to see a steampunk character make an appearance. I know that Steampunk is more loosely around the Victorian era but you have to remember, Soul Calibur is more fantasy oriented so I think it wouldn't be too bad to try and fit in a steampunk character. So long as they don't use guns as their main weapon and that shouldn't be a problem because I've seen plenty of steampunk like characters using swords.

To have such strict historical accuracy in a fantasy setting seems a little silly to me.
especially in a game where so much emphasis is on the fantastic.
whenever i see these type of threads i ask myself would this be a fun character to play?
Could a new exciting fighting style come of this type of character?
I always welcome fresh ideas and out of the box thinking because they can lead to great things.

The soulcalibur series has always been first and foremost a superb fighting game with an amazing game engine.
Regardless of setting or time period.
i often wish namco bandi would start another fighting game using the same game engine.
similar to what capcom did with darkstalkers or marvel.

Note: I know following will Never happen.
i know many people got upset when star wars characters where introduced to the series.
but imagine if everyone would have received them better.
imagine if namco licensed out the fighting engine to Lucas arts.
A star wars universe fighting game utilizing the soulcalibur engine would be awesome.

but as far as a clock work steampunk character goes, yoshi's already like 25 percent clock work why the big deal?

I agree, a gun would be out of place (except for Ezio and Cervantes), but there are many other steampunk weapons.

Steampunk? No. Overdone and passé IMHO and doesn’t fit SC aesthetic or setting well either.

Clockwork, though, I can get behind. Not in the least because it actually fits with old stories from Europe. Also, Ashlotte was a good design, regardless of the stolen weapon and huge phantom range issues.

Ultimately, though, I don’t feel strongly about it.

Asholette should become a real character herself but with a new weapon. She was the best of the guest creations. The most unique.
Many of us would like that, but unfortunately Namco does not own the rights to her character, so she can't return. Her rights are owned by the artist that designed her, Ito Ōgure , also known as "Oh! Great". I hope that Namco can get the rights from him somehow, but they probably don't care about Asholette anymore. It's a shame.

Does anyone here know how to edit a poll? I'm thinking of making seperate polls for steampunk and clockwork.

Ashlotte is a clockwork character right? I think her look is great but sadly she's an Astraroth clone, so she doesn't get a unique fighting style.

What is the correct pronunciation? I pronounce it Ash-lo-ette. This may not matter, but I want to know.

Wait, I have an off topic question. Where do we go to talk about of post about a guest character like Ashlotte. I think this is more general to be focusing on specifics.

Steampunk got his chance with Asta 2p probably, they wanted make a prototype/unfinished/very artificial looking golem... but is end up being that strange ugly "robot"

SCV Asta 1p (wich is based on Frankenstein monster from Van Helsing movie) is the closest thing you're going to get, probably

Yes Ashlotte is clockwork, she could have her own style if she returned, but she can't return because Namco doesn't own her character rights. I guess the correct pronunciation is Ash-lo-tte. I always thought that it was spelled as "Asholette", so I pronounce it Ash-o-lette. I don't know where to go to discuss guest characters. I don't think that there is a thread for that yet. Ask an admin.

Well that sucks. Astaroth's SCV 2P looks like a butt-ugly robot, not steampunk. His 1P looks like an ugly Dr. Doom variant. Also, Astaroth is one of my least favorite characters.

You know, I thought Oh!Great would have signed over the rights to Ashlotte when she became a guest character. And it doesn't hurt for them to ask you know, she was the only one to contribute to the story.
