Theory Calibur/Go to DEV/Like This Post Thread

Ivy is versatile that's really what I like about her, but still as an opponent fighting against her, I think she's slightly overpowered. Namco overfed her with too much grease oil.

It's not fair to say that ppl who main Ivy are tier whores when ppl who love Ivy just love her for just being Ivy; hell let's say if InsaneKhent (sorry for picking on you ;P) mains Mina because of the way she is and how she's played out but in SC5 she became god tier; would you call InsaneKhent a tier whore then? Obviously not.

I said about a third, that's not even a majority, jeez.
And I find that although most if not all of the GOOD/TOP ivy's have mained her since before I was spamming throws with link on SCII, a large amount of her fanbase, which doesn't necessarily mean just players only like her because she is so powerful, heck, I suck with her but like her style, nevertheless to a lot of people she has what I call the Amy appeal:
POWER!!!
Don't get me wrong Lobo, I agree with you but inevitably with any character who dominates, tier whores will always begin to use them, the reason I picked on Ivy there is that she looks so cool whilst dominating that it is a popular choice to the player who thinks 'right I'm going to learn a really strong character.'
Going back to your point, look at Mina, I garuntee you that if she became god tier in 5 the number of players using her would multiply significantly, see what I mean?

enough of this scrubby bitching. think you can unseat the top ivy guys after they have been learning her inside and out for 3 years? switch mains then. use their own ammo against them. go ahead and try.

This isn't happening since it's much easier for people to bitch.

But the people who have been using Ivy have been using her from the beginning. It's not like they've been playing her a week ago and started dominating. It's also not the character who is dominating, but the player. If she was really that OP, anybody with a 3.8GPA could pick her up and win, but that has not happened in this game. Also, there's less people who are actively competing in this game which you also have to consider when you look at the results. In Cannes 2010, none of the Ivy players were in the top 8.

If anything, people should be crying about Amy, Kilik, and Voldo. Don't cry about people who've been working their ass off and are now winning. Step yo shit up.

And whoever is good in the next game, that's who people will be using, just like in any other fighting game.

Actually, every hardcore UK player I've ever met has picked their character through love of the style - not their winning potential, though maybe it's different here? In any case the best UK players I've ever fought use: NM, Taki, X, Mitsu & Kilik and the kilik player has been using Kilik only since SC2.
I'd just like to make my feelings clear - If you pick a character, you should stick with them through thick and thin, regardless of how advantaged/disadvantaged they are. If you are the sort of person who picks their character based purely on best chance of winning, you disgust me.
Eg. Keev, spectacular NM, one of the best players around, did he pick a god tier? nope.
Belial? Nope.
Pantocrator? Nope.
Ramza? Nope.

You know whats funny? Every time someone complains that a characters is OP, no matter WHO THEY ARE, someone else says, "oh well scrub, learn to deal with it".

I understand why people say that. Heck in most cases I even agree with them. I don't think Voldo is OP at all, he's just very very unpredictable (at least for me anyway).

Let me just say my 2 cents here. Just because people are complaining that a character is OP, doesn't mean that what they are saying is FALSE.

Amy could use some nerfs. Is she OP? Not quite, just a little too fast IMO. I think what makes Kilik so strong is the fact that he can handle anything with relative ease, and as far as I can tell, doesn't have any BAD matchups. Sure he could use a few nerfs, but he's not OP by any means.

IVY on the other hand, could use a few more nerfs than others. I don't think it's totally unfair to say that.

It's not fair to call someone scrubish just because they demand nerfs. If enough people are complaining about it, there has to be some truth behind it.

Remember when the game first came out and people were complaining about ALGOL and HILDE? Were those people wrong? Were they scrubs? No, in fact they were SO right, that everyone jumped on the bandwagon, and got them BANNED from tourneys.

I'm not suggesting that we BAN IVY at all, but I don't think it's too much to ask for a few nerfs in the next game. Mock my words, namco will most likely nerf her. You can quote me on that when SC5 comes out.

Damn - u - DO - suck.

How can you even compare Ivy to Algol and Hilde?

And I will "Mock" your words. LoL Namco wont nerf Ivy... shes always been able to compete. She isnt going to stop now. Shes easy to beat unless shes in the hands of someone "Really" capable with her. Which its pretty much like that for most characters, except Algol and Hilde.

Also you can tell you havnt played a good voldo. If you think unpredictability is the only thing he has going for him then your seriously mistaken.

Amy is not OP and Ivy is?? HAHAHAHAHA Voldo is just unpredictable??? LOL. Good laugh. Sorry man but when you say stuff like this it just takes so much away from your point that its not even worth discussing.

Obviously they banned them because they had SERIOUS balance issues. Hence why it was done mostly when the game first came out. Ivy on the other-hand doesn't. If your going to nerf Ivy for having too many good tools then you might as well nerf Voldo, Kilik, and Amy too.

Just because people are complaining that a character is OP, doesn't mean that what they are saying is FALSE.
That's true. But it's different when the people who are complaining have some knowledge about the game and can at least back up their arguments, whereas you cannot.

Ivy would be a nice candidate for BAN if they didn't nerf her in 1.02 (infinite, 100% tracking UB, CL214B safe on block, SW WSB 110dmg combo on NH, normal CS with 2x range etc)

Some of you are just picking on damn-i-suck out of sheer bias now. Sure he was wrong in the other thread on the topic of thinking. But he happens to be right here. Also, don't ban characters, just one of their best moves. That was a big mistake we had not removing sc3 66A+B~G.

wait so the ban ivy movement is actually gaining steam? ............scrubs

most people who complain about ivy don't know that her throw game is stance specific =/
or that you can pretty much rush her down in anything that isn't CL

I agree most people don't know how to fight Ivy and there's a lot to know, each stance is like half a movelist to keep track of. A lot of her punishable moves like 9B and WP 3A have short blockstun so are hard to punish, too. Still nothing too broken...

As a Sophie player, I don't see her as OP. But I think Sophie is next in line to be in the OP spotlight. Calling it right now.

But how exactly do you rush down Ivy in SW? i13 1K mid, good BB and safe pushback from 3B says hi

All right, enough is enough. We need an elitist approach from now on. If you haven't won a legit tournament before with many other good players also participating, then you should not have an opinion. Signia, warui, malice, your opinions are terminated. Thugish, please stand up and tell us what to do regarding rules. Your slaves,

LoL your so trolly these days

How exactly does one stick with a character between fighting games? Not only does the individual movelists get tweaked, but everyone else's are, and strength is relative, so as far as I'm concerned, they're completely different characters... or rather, choosing a character is a new choice entirely.

Synraii how do you suggest people pick characters if it isn't based on giving you the best chances of winning? Should I pick the character I find the most attractive? Or how cool their moves look perhaps? Should I identify with their "personality?" And stick with the character even if I find out that using them causes the odds to be stacked against me? Yeah I don't think so. I'd rather be a competitive player.

I mean I understand some characters favor a set of options (aka styles) but I'm having trouble understanding why a competitive player should be "loyal" to a character.

Wow, Signia. You must not know what originality means. I bet you make manufactured pop music and wonder why people call it lame.

Red: I would listen to Thugish. We need elitism every now and then for the sake of guidance.

BTW Vincent, looking at your sig... is CL 214B the only reason why you refuse to match Ivy? You play Sophitia... you should be PRAYING for that move to come out so that you can punish Ivy for for 1/2 life ;)

You really must be bored. Stop trolling and play the game.

ok vints but only if you win a tourney with a character that requires a brain therefore all your wins with hwang=invalidated

also signia I don't fear 1K not enough dmg frames are nice though, sw 3B is super linear to the left if you can get them throwing that out predictably you just won half the battle
