Yoshimitsu Combo & Tech Trap Discussion

From play testing tonight, I get the impression that 6B BE has more range than iMCF since he gets a little forward movement. It's a short range emergency button that can lead to ~90-100 dmg easy. I wouldn't call it useless.

mkl: First, thanks for your input. Second, we use the abberviation DGF for Dragonfly stance on these boards. Third, as this is a combo discussion thread and this forum is tournament-centric, please focus on guaranteed combos only. I'm not knocking you, but good players might eat that string of moves the first time, but they'll punish you hard every time after that.

Yeah, sorry man. I didn't really see a thread for what I wanted to contribute and thought this might be the only one close enough. After RedDjinn's video I think a lot of combos I use regularly are covered. As far as the punishment; naturally. It's not something to abuse but to use once maybe twice and substitute key moves in and out to keep them guessing for other mix ups.

I've seen Dragonfly used both as DGF and MDF and just figured it was a preference thing.
 
Dr.Dogg, just fyi... BE MCF covers a bit more range than normal !MCF and if it hits normal(non CH) your at more adv than you are after doing normal !MCF(blocked), not sure how much but def leaves Yoshi with faster recovery it seems, since !MCF was 0/+0 in SC4 on block, and the BE one seeming faster on recovery in comparison to the normal !MCF on block, maybe BE version is at +1/+2-ish on block for Yoshi ?

It has more range, but recovers slower and executes slower.

iMFC = i10, -3 (block), +6 (hit)
6B BE = i13, -4 (block), +6 (hit)
 
^^^...woah, really?...damn, to the eye it seems like it recovers faster, like if you just do quick step( white flash step), seems quicker to get to from there rather than from normal !MCF...interesting, thanks for response.
 
i13 is still pretty fast. Not that it matters. I'm pretty sure the key point is that it has more range.

Hey yo, I think i found some yoshi iMCF BE combo that makes his 66a+abk BE even better.
Need others to test and experiment as well.

iMCF, 66a+ABK, 9B+KK - does 100+ damage. I think they can tech the second K of 9B+K but if they do, its an tech trap and they take an additional 10 damage.

Ok, just saw you can tech the second K to the right, but anywhere else it hits.

Hmm, this appears to be character specific. Works on nightmare, and natsu... still need to test others

I think that's a pretty good buff! It's a staple mid range attack IMO and now it's totally safe!

Something I haven't been seeing people do in match videos, which surprises me...

One of the listed combos in Training Mode is 214A,DNK,3B. I've never failed to land the full combo, even in serious matches, so I'm sure the last hit is guaranteed, but I haven't seen the full string (that is, with the final 3B) used often in match vids (e.g. in the MarkMan vs. FilthieRich matches). Is there a reason you wouldn't want to go for the guaranteed damage? Just to keep them closer for oki setups? []
 
Yoshi seems to have tons of tech traps, tough most of the time I will use 3B delayed to get the launcher and good damage.
Too lazy to write them up, lol, but basically, UB traps, CE traps, etc, the same.. We need this to deal damage, Yoshi's BE is a joke, better save those bars for CE and GI.
