Regarding FSAK

Don't say such sad things :(
We, well at least I am sorry and will never do this again. I didn't realize so many players would be so upset of 1 bye.

Haha, ok i'll stop. Actually your response was the first one of people involved which actually made sense to me and i think you are honest about this. At least you regret what you did, i mean with the 2nd place you would have been still the best US player :) Thats better than first with what happened imo.

But after all this people here defending this as a "legimate tactic" and comparing this to "RTD not beeing able to use custom outfit" it really hurts the image of the US...when we in Germany for example get visitors we try to do our best to host them and give them a good time in our country, i would never ever think about cheating...lol you know the results of the last tourney (Scud, Malek, Ring) :)

Whatever, good to hear your opinion about this story, makes 100 times more sense than anything we have heard before here....i know what happened since a long time now but when all the people involved actually defended what happened i was like "ok, lol no reason to go ever to a US tournament like this when they will do the same to me, they dont even admit its cheating"....

Forfeiting the match is perfectly fine. All you have to do is say, "I forfeit", instead of "he beat me." Surprisingly, saying you lost might create a backlash.

Edit: I just learned that there's a difference in points by losing instead of forfeiting. Haha. You cheaters!

^ True that..

...though from an 'outsiders' point of view... other than the outright usage of the wrong 'terminology' ..only reason why it caused a backlash was the fact that the motives behind the 'forfeit' was highlighted.. and even defended by certain peoples. Which kinda made it all look quite ugly to the standard 'outsider'

...had SU stated 'I forfeit' and left it at that from the get go ...& maintained that his reasoning was for perhaps.. ..er.. exhaustion, bad performance, ANYTHING ELSE.. I doubt that this would have caused as much stir.

Hell, S & W could've played out the match.. & S could simply just 'lose convincingly' (..i'm pretty good at that too.. ^_^) ...and everything would be 'politically ok' so long as they kept their traps shut throughout the whole thing AND after.

I work in a solicitors firm (and not as one of the lawyers... thank goodnes.. >_<).. so I have a gist on making corruption look 'legally sound' hehe!

EDIT: point difference?

Just to clarify: forfeiture of a match was considered a drop. A drop meant you got a ZERO for the whole tournament because your results would skew the overall matches. Everyone needed the same amount of total matches to make a correct placing. Why did they lie? Because if they forfeited, they forfeited their placing as well.

I definitely think the action itself was not as big as some people are trying to make it. If I had the choice of helping a friend or not and the outcome would not affect me I would definitely do it.

That being said this does discourage me a little from spending money to travel from Michigan in order to enter tournaments that I deserved to earn first place and didn't. (not that I would ever be good enough in SC4 to deserve first place).

To those who are making threats or ignorant remarks, stop, you are not adding anything to this discussion and there is a much higher possibility your point will get across if you are an adult about it, and you bring valid points up without insults.

Oof:

I understand if you do stop coming to US because of this but I sincerely wish that would not be so. I intend on entering tournaments soon and even though I'd lose horribly I'd like a chance to play you.

So they conspired in order to cheat. And they cheated in order to steal.

CRIMINAL ACTIVITY!!!

..that might be a little bit taking it on the 'extreme' end of this rather humble INTERNATIONAL DEBACLE!! >_< haha!

I would say its more in line with a 'litigation' type case more than anything tbh.. but lets not forget that all parties (plaintiff & defendant/s) involved were all buddies in anycase, all pretty much aware of what's gone on... no harm no foul & all that...

Both S & W, in the heat of the competition.. as well as the temptation of $$$ (doubtful.. though W did say that he needed the doe..) and/or for the glory of their country ..probably forgot that the event was a very important Major.. & with M's involvement.. will be scrutinised on an international scale by their country's respective SC enthusiasts.

..oh, & nevermind the TO (who was supposed to be their friend...) that as someone stated, put their name on the line in regards to the integrity of the event. >_<

Not exactly the ideal scenario to be showing any sort of 'flimflammery'.. regardless of their reasons.. =_=

..I'm all for 'letting this die' though.. probably after everyone had their 'fun' with this... >_< *lol! ...you guys.. ^_^*

..I mean, its not like its the 'expenses' scandal that we Britons suffered recently from our dear, trustworthy politicians.. lol!

I notice you like to do 'this' for ever other 'comment' that you like to 'make'.

Sorry to burst your 'bubble' but I don't think 'criminals' should be given another 'chance'.

I'm going post to the best of my ability on from my phone.

First the tourny was perfect, there are a few things that could have done to change the results however there is nothing that will can be done to change the results now. I was all for making the final 8 play a normal tourny style to end the corrupt aspect of the tourny, that way we would have got the best player however people would complaint about that. Many people have stated this has been going on since the beginning of tourny scenes which is true. I'm guilt of it in my day tourny tekken and sc. The only real way to get around this becoming the one and only best player out there, then u can dictate the outcome of tourneys.

What saddens me is how quick this community gives up, we already have like 3 people actively engaged in the tourny/offline scene. Most people voice their opinions and never leave their homes. If I wasn't in the army I would do more traveling, but it's sad that I've been to tourneys with less time than most people that post and criticize actively engaged players. We should come together to make the community better instead of killing it. Another thing I can't are people that cry when they are challenged when it's all in fun and to push you to that higher level. Suck it up if you lose and come back stronger.

Malik hate the way things played out for you, but it happens. You have no idea how many times I went to tourneys and ended up with the toughest brackets and still prevailed. If I had the best record I still would have asked for the top 8 to play it out in regular format to prove my dominance. Not to take anything away from you, I had your number the and looked forward to playing you because I feel there was no way u was going to beat in a ft2, ft3, ft4. From this experience I you can look back on it and come back your guns blazing ready to rape the USA at any big tourny. Next time no matter how they try to cheap it won't matter because you are the best.

On to people that bash SU, I believe this deserve a little credit than he been given. He is a shit talker but it's all in fun and to bring the best out of everyone. All the guy ever wanted was for the scene to be bigger and more competitors. We are the people that kill the community instead of building it back up and my hopes were to add life to the game everyone said was dead. SU was put in a no win situation, I'm sure he would have taken heat whether he beat Woahhzz for letting Malik take the title back to France and we see the result of him letting Woahhzz win.

Oof, when I left the community not at my own free will and the community still continued to move forward what you think will happen without you. I was at the top of the food chain. We come and go, people still keep the game alive.

Fuck one bad thing that happens and continue to do whatever you do for the love of the game and not because a couple of people said they will not support something.

Woahhzz, you disappoint me. Quit letting people make you feel bad when you already beat yourself up about this. If you want to go to nec don't let the community made you change the way you feel.

Thank you, Mick.

Other than that, I'd just like to say the prophecy LP spoke not too long ago is fulfilling itself. And I'm understanding the stance that we'll get a community full of angels, but the only thing that will happen is that the people who continue to not show up will still not even attempt to show up and think that their opinions matter, people who help make the community will stop showing up, and, in turn, there will be no reason for anyone to do anything. Now, I understand some of the more chaotic and self-centered personalities of this site could give a rat's ass, so long as they feel some type of validation, but, yeah, they're beyond help at this point. Of course, new people will come and go, but, without some type of core group that embodies what the the 8WR community is, they have no one to learn from.

I dunno if it's because of the way I approach things or because I've been a leader in the Army even when I was a 'cherry', but this is the type of thing that brings many people from many different social backgrounds together. While we all want everybody to bring big booty bitches to gatherings and just be upstanding citizens, that will never be the case. We should have a standing set of rules and values, but, bringing out the good ol' lynch mob and going to war every time every time somebody we don't like does something or somebody does something unlike how we would've done it has only served to leave people even more jaded and keep things from progressing.

In summation, THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!

EDIT: Also, while on the topic, I really don't understand what people have against SU. I've met the guy now in addition to talking to him on the forums and he's a cool cat. He may be a bit egotistical, but so what? If you can't beat him in game, so what? What's that, it's more than just the game? Well, I really don't want to hear about what he did last Saturday or whose Cheerios he pissed in - we're here for the game and, while beef can be hilarious at time, people coming to threats of physical violence is downright side, considering the mean age for people at this site seems to be 21+. We're all here for the love of the game, guys, regardless of anything else.

Like I've said also, I rarely ever take sides as I like to be devil's advocate in order to actually get people thinking, but I've noticed that much of heat with SU and his band of haters, for lack of better words, comes from THEIR inability to bury whatever hatchets may have been created between them and he from even years ago. What's that? I haven't heard about this, that, and the other thing? Yes, I have, and IT'S BEEN FROM THOSE VERY SAME PEOPLE - not SU! And that's the point.

You all are fuckin' crazy.

Ahhh. 4 more pages !

This is now a SAGA who looks like

Well. I have some things to add to this.

First of all, and the only things I dislike:

What is "Iron Man" Format?

Iron Man format means this entire tournament runs on a Round Robin format.
Every person in the tournament will play EVERY other person in the tournament in a 3 game set.
All 3 games are played out for purposes of tie-breaking.

Unlike other Round Robin formats, this one does NOT enforce a character lock. I highly suggest that you take advantage of blind selection if you need to.

This means in order to be the best, you have to beat the majority of your opponents. This test of matchup experience and skill will ensure one thing- the winner of this tournament is clearly the best overall player.

Funny right now, isn't it ?

The only problem here is that the rules were not applied.
But I don't blame it, I knew it was IMPOSSIBLE from the very beginning.
This event was AWESOME, but it was also impossible to run perfectly.
That's the main reason why no one else organize round robin competition.
And it's OK. It's a first, with no one doing it before.

Idle,
Your event was great. One can learn only from his mistake.
The only people who don't do any mistake are the one who don't do anyting.
You are the MAIN STAFF, you decide.
You have to decide what you want to be possible for your competition, and what you'll not tolerate.
If you dislike what happened, then you should find away to counter it.
There are plenty of solution to counter it:
- All matches at the same time.
But it means, with 60 people you have to play 30 matches at the same time.
- Braquet with the top 4/8/16/...
But then it can still happened for place n°5/9/17/...
- Use round robin to create a single elimination braquet base on the result of round robin.
But it means WAY more time.
Or you can simply go with it, and accept that people do not play with the same goal.
It's up to you, as the main staff to decide the rule you want for your event, and to apply them.
And with your past experience, you'll know if thnigs are possible or no.
12 TV for 60 players is NOTHING. For Cannes, we had more that 64 TV with machines, and still couldn't run the whole comp without delay.
No event has been perfect from the first one. Learn from it, think again of good and bad point, what you like and what you dislike. And try again with improvement. Again and again, until you are satisfied. To the best of my knowledge, that's the only way to go.
To give up now would be a mistake.

Ok, now everyone has to understand that there are two point of vue in this story.
Personal : every one is different, so every one will probably think different.
Community : as people who share the same hobby, every player is concerned by this point

Personal :
Oofmatic feel bad for something that happened and who is not done "with honor". But you have to understand that friendship is a strength. Just like knowledge is Oofmatic main strength to defeat people, One of Whoaaaz best strength in this comp is friendship. It's easy to understand that 2 people are stronger than only one. Simple example, Xeph has some weakness in his game because in his part of USA he is more or less alone. S-U is strong because in his part of US, he has plenty of players to challenge and to progress. This works to improve skill, but as you can see, this can also work to won a competition.

Community :
Noone should ever forget the community, and people who organize competitions.
Without event, no community. No matter what happened, I think the most important is always the community, and so on, the people who organize. In this case, IdleMind.
To point things that you dislike, is a way to help staff members to improve the event for the next time. It is the best way to learn from every one experience, and to use it to improve things.
For someone who want to run an event, friendship is also very interresting. 2 players who trashtalk/challenge/fight each others are no more than 2 people. 2 team of friends who do the same are way more people who will come to the event. So, it's more interresting to the community to have teams instead of alone players.
And banning "Friendship" not like banning "Hilde" ^_^

Next point,
I think it's possible to make fun of everything, but not with everyone. It's easy and funny to ask the "whooaz vs S-U video" to S-U cause he's someone you should not be afraid to make joke : Rock's challenge against Doc, MM vs Mick, trash talk every 2 posts, etc...
But the exact same question should not be asked without to explain it to Whooaz. He has done nothing unlegal. S-U choose to give up against him, that's all. I like you whooaz, and like when you say "i hate you, i hate you, i hate you" ah ah ah You have nothing to fear about me. My opinion of you remain unchanged. Same for S-U by the way.

About my personal opinion on this,

What I dislike is that I believed in this:
All 3 games are played out for purposes of tie-breaking.
Nothing else.

About the format, I think that is the main problem.
What about to give up for the same exact reason.
Example, at the end of the comp
1. Whoaaz (~500 $)
2. Malek (~200 $)
3. S-U (~100$)
4. Mick (~50$)
Let us imagine if I had asked Mick to give up the comp for me.
So i'll become champion and won 500$ instead of 200$ and I can even give 200$ to Mick for this.
This is strategy right ? ah ah ah
See ? There are several problems to solve with the round robin format.
Still it is possible to do such an event, but not easy.

To me, it's a drama for nothing. Ok, maybe some guy not aware of friend who help each other may learn something. That's a point. But that is all.
Oof, you are the one who told (and I really agree with you) to Mick and SU, that loosing a player for any kind of reason is a bad thing for the community. So ?
It's time to do what you ask for. And to come back on your decision, ins't it ?
I understand your feeling as I said, but what ? There is no way to change anything anyway.

And that's the reason why I wanted to come with Keev. I knew things like this would happened. Without him, I knew I had to won al of my matches or else I'll not be able to decide my own fate. I even proposed 20$ to everyone who could defeat Mick and help me to won. Ramon and JustKill can testify about this ah ah ah. It was more a joke than anything else, but still. I would have gave them 20$ if I had won.

SU, you don't betray me. Nothing changed, don't worry.
And I didn't expect you to win against Whoaaaz anyway. RTD was my last hope. I knew it.
Still, you don't know me. Don't say things you have no idea about.
SatanaXXX and Belial are probably the only people in the world who can talk to me about disrespect in SoulCalibur.
I had never won a single round because of a controller mistake before EVO 2009. In france, the one who is not responsible for the start decide to win or not the round. I had always accepted to play. This happens to Ahriman 2 weeks ago in a grand final against me. He asked, and we played the round. In USA, it happens to me against ViciousSuicide at EVO, and Vicious decide to win. Ok no problem. Then it happens to Ceirnian against me, and the judge decide that I should win, without asking me. The same happens to Kira, and Kero both at EVO and Nats. So, at the time we just imagine it's a common rule and that once your opponent press start you are forced to win the round. At Nats, I won after the start cause I expect this to be regular rule. You didn't say a word. And now you say it's disrespect ???
Other story, once I go to a comp in Paris with one of my sparring partner and good friend: Obi. We travel 500km together, but had to play in pool against each other. At the end, Kayane was 1st no matter what happen. I was 2nd no matter what. MasterCD was 3rd no matter what. 4 th place was against Obi and Ramza, and last match was Obi vs me. I beat him, and Ramza take 4 th. On this point I'm like Oofmatic, only the best should won. Reality is different. Ramza had played better than Obi on this day, so he deserves the 4 th. Obi is still my friend, he's a good player based on skill and who count on his strengh to win. Same goes to Ramza. And I'm happy with that.
On the hat. I pm RTD several times before WorldGameCup, ad we talk about this story at FSAK. He knows that this is psychological mindgame, and with this story he was able to stop French team. Every one had to stop, and it takes lots of time before the Dina vs RTD matches start. RTD is intelligent enough to know that psychology is very important in a match. Dina won but it was close. This whole story was RTD's plan and it had nothing to do with disrespect. I told RTD long before that custom are banned, but that some people don't care. Some people challenge him with the hat, some without. I don't even understand how you can talk about this as disrespect for RTD...
His only name is enough to motivate people to travel to Cannes, to meet/challenge him. So I don't understand why the same players would be disrespectfull after met him ?

Whoaaz
You should not be afraid to claim that you are the champion. Cause you are.
The winner, and the best are rarely the same people.
I won EVO, but the best there was OMEGA. So what ? I'm still the winner.
Words and wall of text will not change it. You did it, you win, you are FSAK champion.
It's not the first time you stop. I'll still be there when you come back ^_^

Mick
MalEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK. With an E, and not an I. ^_^
I'll be ready for you next time more than I was. X is no match for Ivy !
Shinji and now shadowG. I can probably won lots of Money at NEC just by beating you.
Mmmmmmh... interresting.

Doc
USA is a different country, different culture, different people.
Still, it's not so different from Europe.
In france, this kind of things happens too. Not at the same level. I remember Scud loosing to me on purpose cause he prefers to finish 2nd of the pool, so he was not forced to face is captain Kira.
And you knows about the Belgium team right ? They all travel together, eat together, play together, and share their money together. If one win, the whole team win. From this, it's easy to understand that matches against Tsubasa and Alukard are rarely done "with honor" ah ah ah. I remember a semi-final Alukard-Tsubasa where the 2 were playing slow to be able to know who is gonna be the other player in the final and decide who should win to defeat him. Kayane won is semi-final, so Tsubasa goes in final and defeat her. If DTN would have beat Kayane, probably Alukard would have been in the final.
I don't not agree with this. But I can understand it. That's also why I like "one against all".
You'll probably lost a lot, but when you won, it is even better.
And when Vincent was there, most of the players ask for and/or exchange information about Hwang in order to be able to beat him. Belial is a different story cause most of the players was actually FOR Belial ah ah ah. You had been in France enough to undertand.
Doc, I feel that I don't even need to post more. You understand.
Even the little joke here and there ah ah.

I'll still organise a donation for foreign country players. But as I lost lots of money in FSAK (only 1st place could give me back my money for this trip), I don't have a lot right now. that's why I'll not be able to give a lot. And this year, I'll help Polish players and Japanese player first. Then maybe USA.

But, after all this useless wall of text wich will only cause more post so the saga can go on, I just wanna say that the most important is still the community and the organizer.
IdleMind is the one who should be congratulate, and support before anything else.

At the end of the day, besides all this stuff that happened, in actuality, its very small compared to how great the event was. Anybody who actually went to FSAK will probably say the same thing. I'll say it again -- FSAK was the best tournament I've EVER been to, and the most fun I had for a long time. I've heard so many people, including me, say that this event caused people to want to play SC4 again -- even from people who didn't even go to the tournament!

being pretty much the only US SC4 major since last Nationals (friggin May 09!!!....well, maybe except DEV), this tournament brought leagues of attention to a game that was considered dead for the past year and a half. It shows that its still fun, and relevant even with no SC5 in sight (yet). I hope this speed bump (thats pretty much all this amounts to be) doesn't derail the community effort, because I want to get into more SC4 tourneys next year -- I don't want it to end up a dry desert of tourney-lessness again next year. I hope we can keep moving forward

Malek: I look forward to our next meet. I will be stronger. Btw X vs Ivy 6-4 IMO now...lol. What will u do differently? I know a few things i will do since i tested out more effectively things against the character. You're a funny guy can't wait to hangout with u again.

Sometimes I forget that I shouldn't just type things that are on my mind on these forums, and when I wrote my original post I wrote a bit about myself and my personal feelings on the matter, stating that I don't feel like traveling to certain events anymore (and nothing about quitting the game, like some people claim i said). Instead of expressing that opinion on the matter, I should have kept it to myself, because people overlook the issue at hand and decide to attack me personally. So forget I said anything about not traveling to the states anymore, its not like it really matters if I do or not, I know, I won't be missed, the community will move on without me, etc. And people don't really need to know if I decide not to go. I just wrote what was on my mind at the time, and didn't realize that it would divert people's attention from the issue at hand.

Another thing is, it amazes me that apparently some people think that winning by using a glitch that was allowed in tournaments is equal to winning by something that happens outside the game, such as lying about the results. If the glitch was banned from tournaments, and I used it, then I would understand and you guys would have a case against me, but I was just playing to win within the boundaries of the tournament rules.

Also;

Example, at the end of the comp
1. Whoaaz (~500 $)
2. Malek (~200 $)
3. S-U (~100$)
4. OOF (~50$)

Fixed for you. :P

Also, while on the topic, I really don't understand what people have against SU.

. . .

I really don't want to hear about what he did last Saturday or whose Cheerios he pissed in
You've conveniently closed your mind as to why by saying you don't want to hear what he does. Clever.

Mick and RTD did something like this at an EVO a while back. The situation was different, they were more in the right. Oh, and they never lied about it.

1. The guy in first place was hurt.

2. The guy running the tournament, OUR F-R-I-E-N-D is OFFENDED.

3. People LIED. Pretended it didn't happen. You don't do that with things you think are alright.

Stop pretending that its ok to cheat. We're all God damn adults. First that shit at Nationals happens with the money and now FSAK.

Truly a fuck up worth Warble's signature. There is a reason other Fighting Game communities laugh at us.

Mick: that's what people need to hear from the champ.

Malek: as you can see, the US loves drama and despite all that has happened, everyone loves you here.

IdleMind: if you look at the bigger picture, you'll realize that you helped put a skinny homeless asian kid through college and that everyone who attended FSAK thinks that it was the best event ever.

we can only hope that you will only continue to improve on the solid unprecedented foundation that you've started.

Oof: you are old school and a big influence in this community. these kids(partisan, whoahhzz, RTD, Xeph, SU, etc.) are looking at you like a daddy and they are quitting to follow your lead.

you still have a chance to be a better role model. tell them that you will not quit and that you WILL become the best player in the world to fight corruption. tell them that you've discovered your purpose in life and that you will use your force unblockable cancels to rush that shit down.

we also saw that you've found a girl and that she was following your foot steps by playing Lizard man with all of the crawls, glitches, tongue gestures and shit.

i almost cried when i saw that…

when i saw that Lizard crawling on the screen, i didn't even try to talk to that girl because i knew she was yours.

now that you are an excellent boyfriend, be an excellent father to the community. You couldn't have said it better yourself:
SCIV dies once SCV arrives, not a second earlier

for the rest of you: if we stopped playing SC every time that someone does what ever it takes to win money, gain status, pay for college, or help a friend, then nobody would be playing.

at the end of the day, it's about promoting our events and keeping the community together.

let's start by focusing on NEC. i don't know about you, but i just RSVP'd. who's with me?

and for the love of god, get your fat asses off your couch and travel. it's fun. trust me.
