Ahhh. 4 more pages !
This is now a SAGA who looks like
Well. I have some things to add to this.
First of all, and the only things I dislike:
What is "Iron Man" Format?
Iron Man format means this entire tournament runs on a Round Robin format.
Every person in the tournament will play EVERY other person in the tournament in a 3 game set.
All 3 games are played out for purposes of tie-breaking.
Unlike other Round Robin formats, this one does NOT enforce a character lock. I highly suggest that you take advantage of blind selection if you need to.
This means in order to be the best, you have to beat the majority of your opponents. This test of matchup experience and skill will ensure one thing- the winner of this tournament is clearly the best overall player.
Funny right now, isn't it ?
The only problem here is that the rules were not applied.
But I don't blame it, I knew it was IMPOSSIBLE from the very beginning.
This event was AWESOME, but it was also impossible to run perfectly.
That's the main reason why no one else organize round robin competition.
And it's OK. It's a first, with no one doing it before.
Idle,
Your event was great. One can learn only from his mistake.
The only people who don't do any mistake are the one who don't do anyting.
You are the MAIN STAFF, you decide.
You have to decide what you want to be possible for your competition, and what you'll not tolerate.
If you dislike what happened, then you should find away to counter it.
There are plenty of solution to counter it:
- All matches at the same time.
But it means, with 60 people you have to play 30 matches at the same time.
- Braquet with the top 4/8/16/...
But then it can still happened for place n°5/9/17/...
- Use round robin to create a single elimination braquet base on the result of round robin.
But it means WAY more time.
Or you can simply go with it, and accept that people do not play with the same goal.
It's up to you, as the main staff to decide the rule you want for your event, and to apply them.
And with your past experience, you'll know if thnigs are possible or no.
12 TV for 60 players is NOTHING. For Cannes, we had more that 64 TV with machines, and still couldn't run the whole comp without delay.
No event has been perfect from the first one. Learn from it, think again of good and bad point, what you like and what you dislike. And try again with improvement. Again and again, until you are satisfied. To the best of my knowledge, that's the only way to go.
To give up now would be a mistake.
Ok, now everyone has to understand that there are two point of vue in this story.
Personal : every one is different, so every one will probably think different.
Community : as people who share the same hobby, every player is concerned by this point
Personal :
Oofmatic feel bad for something that happened and who is not done "with honor". But you have to understand that friendship is a strength. Just like knowledge is Oofmatic main strength to defeat people, One of Whoaaaz best strength in this comp is friendship. It's easy to understand that 2 people are stronger than only one. Simple example, Xeph has some weakness in his game because in his part of USA he is more or less alone. S-U is strong because in his part of US, he has plenty of players to challenge and to progress. This works to improve skill, but as you can see, this can also work to won a competition.
Community :
Noone should ever forget the community, and people who organize competitions.
Without event, no community. No matter what happened, I think the most important is always the community, and so on, the people who organize. In this case, IdleMind.
To point things that you dislike, is a way to help staff members to improve the event for the next time. It is the best way to learn from every one experience, and to use it to improve things.
For someone who want to run an event, friendship is also very interresting. 2 players who trashtalk/challenge/fight each others are no more than 2 people. 2 team of friends who do the same are way more people who will come to the event. So, it's more interresting to the community to have teams instead of alone players.
And banning "Friendship" not like banning "Hilde" ^_^
Next point,
I think it's possible to make fun of everything, but not with everyone. It's easy and funny to ask the "whooaz vs S-U video" to S-U cause he's someone you should not be afraid to make joke : Rock's challenge against Doc, MM vs Mick, trash talk every 2 posts, etc...
But the exact same question should not be asked without to explain it to Whooaz. He has done nothing unlegal. S-U choose to give up against him, that's all. I like you whooaz, and like when you say "i hate you, i hate you, i hate you" ah ah ah You have nothing to fear about me. My opinion of you remain unchanged. Same for S-U by the way.
About my personal opinion on this,
What I dislike is that I believed in this:
All 3 games are played out for purposes of tie-breaking.
Nothing else.
About the format, I think that is the main problem.
What about to give up for the same exact reason.
Example, at the end of the comp
1. Whoaaz (~500 $)
2. Malek (~200 $)
3. S-U (~100$)
4. Mick (~50$)
Let us imagine if I had asked Mick to give up the comp for me.
So i'll become champion and won 500$ instead of 200$ and I can even give 200$ to Mick for this.
This is strategy right ? ah ah ah
See ? There are several problems to solve with the round robin format.
Still it is possible to do such an event, but not easy.
To me, it's a drama for nothing. Ok, maybe some guy not aware of friend who help each other may learn something. That's a point. But that is all.
Oof, you are the one who told (and I really agree with you) to Mick and SU, that loosing a player for any kind of reason is a bad thing for the community. So ?
It's time to do what you ask for. And to come back on your decision, ins't it ?
I understand your feeling as I said, but what ? There is no way to change anything anyway.
And that's the reason why I wanted to come with Keev. I knew things like this would happened. Without him, I knew I had to won al of my matches or else I'll not be able to decide my own fate. I even proposed 20$ to everyone who could defeat Mick and help me to won. Ramon and JustKill can testify about this ah ah ah. It was more a joke than anything else, but still. I would have gave them 20$ if I had won.
SU, you don't betray me. Nothing changed, don't worry.
And I didn't expect you to win against Whoaaaz anyway. RTD was my last hope. I knew it.
Still, you don't know me. Don't say things you have no idea about.
SatanaXXX and Belial are probably the only people in the world who can talk to me about disrespect in SoulCalibur.
I had never won a single round because of a controller mistake before EVO 2009. In france, the one who is not responsible for the start decide to win or not the round. I had always accepted to play. This happens to Ahriman 2 weeks ago in a grand final against me. He asked, and we played the round. In USA, it happens to me against ViciousSuicide at EVO, and Vicious decide to win. Ok no problem. Then it happens to Ceirnian against me, and the judge decide that I should win, without asking me. The same happens to Kira, and Kero both at EVO and Nats. So, at the time we just imagine it's a common rule and that once your opponent press start you are forced to win the round. At Nats, I won after the start cause I expect this to be regular rule. You didn't say a word. And now you say it's disrespect ???
Other story, once I go to a comp in Paris with one of my sparring partner and good friend: Obi. We travel 500km together, but had to play in pool against each other. At the end, Kayane was 1st no matter what happen. I was 2nd no matter what. MasterCD was 3rd no matter what. 4 th place was against Obi and Ramza, and last match was Obi vs me. I beat him, and Ramza take 4 th. On this point I'm like Oofmatic, only the best should won. Reality is different. Ramza had played better than Obi on this day, so he deserves the 4 th. Obi is still my friend, he's a good player based on skill and who count on his strengh to win. Same goes to Ramza. And I'm happy with that.
On the hat. I pm RTD several times before WorldGameCup, ad we talk about this story at FSAK. He knows that this is psychological mindgame, and with this story he was able to stop French team. Every one had to stop, and it takes lots of time before the Dina vs RTD matches start. RTD is intelligent enough to know that psychology is very important in a match. Dina won but it was close. This whole story was RTD's plan and it had nothing to do with disrespect. I told RTD long before that custom are banned, but that some people don't care. Some people challenge him with the hat, some without. I don't even understand how you can talk about this as disrespect for RTD...
His only name is enough to motivate people to travel to Cannes, to meet/challenge him. So I don't understand why the same players would be disrespectfull after met him ?
Whoaaz
You should not be afraid to claim that you are the champion. Cause you are.
The winner, and the best are rarely the same people.
I won EVO, but the best there was OMEGA. So what ? I'm still the winner.
Words and wall of text will not change it. You did it, you win, you are FSAK champion.
It's not the first time you stop. I'll still be there when you come back ^_^
Mick
MalEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK. With an E, and not an I. ^_^
I'll be ready for you next time more than I was. X is no match for Ivy !
Shinji and now shadowG. I can probably won lots of Money at NEC just by beating you.
Mmmmmmh... interresting.
Doc
USA is a different country, different culture, different people.
Still, it's not so different from Europe.
In france, this kind of things happens too. Not at the same level. I remember Scud loosing to me on purpose cause he prefers to finish 2nd of the pool, so he was not forced to face is captain Kira.
And you knows about the Belgium team right ? They all travel together, eat together, play together, and share their money together. If one win, the whole team win. From this, it's easy to understand that matches against Tsubasa and Alukard are rarely done "with honor" ah ah ah. I remember a semi-final Alukard-Tsubasa where the 2 were playing slow to be able to know who is gonna be the other player in the final and decide who should win to defeat him. Kayane won is semi-final, so Tsubasa goes in final and defeat her. If DTN would have beat Kayane, probably Alukard would have been in the final.
I don't not agree with this. But I can understand it. That's also why I like "one against all".
You'll probably lost a lot, but when you won, it is even better.
And when Vincent was there, most of the players ask for and/or exchange information about Hwang in order to be able to beat him. Belial is a different story cause most of the players was actually FOR Belial ah ah ah. You had been in France enough to undertand.
Doc, I feel that I don't even need to post more. You understand.
Even the little joke here and there ah ah.
I'll still organise a donation for foreign country players. But as I lost lots of money in FSAK (only 1st place could give me back my money for this trip), I don't have a lot right now. that's why I'll not be able to give a lot. And this year, I'll help Polish players and Japanese player first. Then maybe USA.
But, after all this useless wall of text wich will only cause more post so the saga can go on, I just wanna say that the most important is still the community and the organizer.
IdleMind is the one who should be congratulate, and support before anything else.
