Release Dates + Ezio + Dampierre + More!

Earlier in the week, someone broke NDA and it was leaked that Ezio Auditore da Firenze would be a guest character in Soulcalibur V. Today, I can confirm that the leak is absolutely true! Ezio will be available for both consoles on launch, and as it stands, is the only confirmed guest character.
Also announced during Monday's press conference is confirmed release dates for western release. Soulcalibur V will be released on North America on January 31, 2012 and February 3, 2012 in Europe. Now I know what you're thinking, but I can tell you, I had a bit of time to play the game and its far further along than you may think.

In addition to the standard retail release, Namco is also preparing a very nice collector's edition in a package very reminiscent of old leather-bound novels. The collector's edition features an in-depth biography on the history of the Soulcalibur franchise, an artbook, soundtrack, and exclusive Dark Knight and Paladin character armor sets.

But wait, there's more! With the inclusion of Ezio Auditore da Firenze in SC5, you may be thinking "what about Dampierre? we never really got a chance to try him out!" Well good news! Dampierre Le Bello will be available as a preorder bonus at an as yet unannounced retailer. It has not yet been confirmed whether or not he will be available via DLC post release.
And yet... we're still not done. Also announced at the press conference, Namco will be bringing the original Soulcalibur game to the iOS platform, just as they previously released it on Xbox Live. There is no word on whether or not it would be coming to the Playstation Network. While this may not be big news in itself, I found a few "quirks" with their presentation.

On the slides for Soulcalibur for the iOS, I noticed one of the screenshots had Cassandra in it; who did not appear till SC2. In addition to this, I also saw Ivy and Astaroth in their SC2 outfits. What it means is up to pure speculation; could this be a new addition or reveal? When chatting with the VP of Marketing and @filthierich, they had mentioned the intent to excite the hardcore fans.

In fact, I was told that Ezio had been in the plan since very early in SC5's development. To the point where a mason's tool is actually hidden in the game's logo itself! Mason's tools, in addition to being used in the symbols for many western guilds, is also used as a symbol of the Assassin's Guild in the Assassin's Creed games.

So chances are, Namco has been hiding secret messages and hints at future reveals in many of their past releases and trailers. Maybe it's time to go back to some of that older footage and getting our detective on? Clever users have already discovered Dampierre in the Ezio announcement trailer, mere hours before the official announcement of his inclusion!

My more in-depth impressions of the game itself will be up later today.

LOL! You wish. That's probably the cost of the normal disc. You think they're going to give you the art book, OST, signed art, book packaging, etc. for free?
Why not? we can stay sure that will not cost around 100 dollars for the simple reason that will not have any figure or special thing for make it more expensive, the aditional content is just paper printed, the signature don't worth the same if is not hand made like those with drawings! that they gived to Kayane and remember we ever get aditional free things when we pre-order a game and this is not the exeption but anyway we don't have the official data from Namco yet, we just have this web from i get the price http://www.gamestop.com/ps3/games/soulcalibur-v/91096 so let's make that question to Daishi for star to save money :)

Actually, as pointed out in other threads, that $80 MSRP was given to Gamestop by Namco Bandai directly. And the European version, which includes the signed art and parchment letter, costs the equivalent of about $96 US.

“Free stuff” with a preorder usually means just downloadable CAS or something equally trivial. Never a combination of OST, DVD, full color art book, large packaging, etc. etc. That stuff costs money to make, and more importantly, people will pay extra for it. The entire purpose of a CE is to boost revenue by giving dedicated fans more junk to buy.

It doesn’t matter, $80 is a totally fair price by my standards and I will be preordering ASAP. I’m only mildly jealous I don’t get the parchment “letter of thanks” (yes I’m a total sap that way), but considering the $16 premium for it, I can gladly do without.

I agree that 80 is fair price. The means about 20 for an art book, the album, a "making of" documentary, signed art by the staff, dlc and a case to hold it all. Much more worth it than SE sc4.

yeah you are right!,but the thing is that i can't find nothing in the picture for guess that will cost over $100 dollars when I pre-order and bought Soulcalibur Broken Destiny they gift me an artbook and one Cd of the most popular soundtracks in the soulcalibur series, and this package look be the same,WE the real fans of SC. want a most valuable premium edition made by the own developer company of the game and that if could cost around or more than $100 dollars like this one from Halo reach
HR_LEGENDARY.jpg
or this one from GoW3
gears-of-war-3-epic-edition.png

and there are still more games with most worth content for fans,we only got things from another companys like those old figures from Todd Mcfarlane or the figure of Ivy from Queens Gate game actually is this one
SoulCaliburIvy(HobbyJapan)-550x.jpg
and soo...Whats Wrong with Namco they where merged with BANDAI so I guess they could do even a more worth collection editon of SCV maybe they think that will not be sold like the editons from the another developers,so I belive this edition lacks, hope you understandme :)

Wait a sec, it is not $80 american?

?
Not sure what you are asking.

The North American Collector’s Ed. is $80 and does not include parchment or signed art.

The European Collector’s Ed. is the USD equivalent of ~$96 and does include parchment and signed art.
Ok, now I understand (you phrased it a bit wierd before). I am fine without the parchment (not sure what it has inside) and the signed art, though that signed art would be cool.

We absolutely must see Talim in one of those slots. I think she's a shoe-in though.

I'm really hoping to see Bangoo finally too. Can't wait to see what awesome style they give him, double tomahawks, or maybe that skull and knife that someone really thought out in the Bangoo thread. I just hope they don't make him a clone of Rock. (Assuming he's even in of course).

I'm still holding out hope for Sophmare. Even though Nightmare is in, they've never been ones to shy away from nonsensical plot contrivances to throw in a character they think is cool and feel like including (Seig and Night in the same game).

Oh, and I hope Taki is back somehow. I'm back to not liking Natsu. Sort of.

Thank you, Soul Calibur, for getting me interested in yet another famous video game franchise. Because of Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny, I started playing God of War (well, my first GoW game was GoW: Chains of Olympus). Now, SC V brings me Assassin's Creed! :sc4nm1:
