Raphael... Scarecrow or Vampire?

Raphael's stats per SC5's pentagon chart of attributes (all values out of 5)

Power: 2
Ease of use: 3
Reach: 4
Speed: 4
Attack rate: 4

Raph was always low on the damage per hit scale, especially compared to other members of the cast. Plus, his CH and NH combos outside of BE or SE B appears to be "mediocre" when compared to some of the jaw droppers from the other characters

Actually, in SCBD the categories were

1) range
2) speed
3) "moves" (probably the same as attack rate)
4) power

were ranked on a A/B/C scale.

There was a 5th "difficulty" category that was just easy/intermediate/advanced.

Basically the SC5 pentagon chart has 5 levels, while the SCBD listings only had 3 levels.

At the end of the day, do these Random Power Rankings actually mean anything, or are they just there to give casual players a vague (and probably completely incorrect and baseless) idea of a character's playstyle?

Considering that one of the goals is to make SC5 more accessible to new players, little things like a power ranking does help new players choose a character to learn the basics of the game in addition to learning their character.

Its not like in a FPS game where you just pick a gun and go running around looking for a target. Each character will handle differently and a newbie's enjoyment of the game will be tied to their initial impressions so finding a character they enjoy controlling will facilitate higher new player retention as opposed to frustrating losses resulting in blaming that the game sux.

IMO: another thing they (or this site) is some sort of primer which, in addition to official namco stats, will give a little blurb describing each character's trademark gimmick to help new players understand and choose which character to use.

Actually, I had long been considering making an SCV character selection guide for total noobs, because this is often a major concern for someone starting out fighting games for the first time. How are they supposed to predict what they’re getting into? Choosing which character to invest the bulk of their time to can be difficult when you have no context! I know I would enjoy writing / directing such a guide.

However, I was concerned that as someone who doesn’t (or won’t, since this is SCV we’re talking about) actually know the ins and outs of the entire roster myself — for example, what’s a key distinction between Pat and Pyrrha? Having never played them, nor Sophi, nor Cass, I don’t really have any insight into the subtleties of their styles — I might just embarrass myself and/or piss off those of you who are experts in this-or-that character.

Maybe if I crowd-sourced or submitted drafts for review here, though... or just left the project to one of you more qualified players. :-/
