Nightmare's Movelist Changes and Move Speculation Thread

Nightmare is going to be trash tier. The time has come upon us to make The Great Voyage to the land of Siegfried's SA. Make haste, gentlemen.

Yes, you go on ahead first though Goofy!
I shall brave the wrathful waters and shine the beacon of light into thine clouded eyes so that you may too see the light.

No but seriously, he will be. All will be revealed in like a week or so and this SA is about to get really funny(or really embarrassing if he turns out okay) :'D

So the game isn't out and NM is trash? Why? I played him last night for about an hour and he feels pretty good. When NM has meter, he's retarded. His super is a HUGE window counter and takes off way too much damage

Guess you missed that he's confirmed as being the worst character in the game.

Daishi made some twitter posts about it.

There's an entire chapter of the official strategy guide titled "Why You Should Never Pick Nightmare".

I mean, he lost gs a+b!

I mean, I've had my hands on the copy and the game, and out of playing everybody, I guarantee you he's not the worst. And if he's the worst and still this good, then the game is screaming of balance.

Trust me NM players, you will be fine

His CE does not aGI other CEs. Yeah, NM still has the weaknesses of the last two installments, but his increased damage compensates for it (as well as a couple of other little tricky things I found, too). What ultimately ends up hurting him is his counter-only CE, because it means he misses out on the wonderful world of CE punishing crap like Pyrrhamare's TAS B.

Bingo. Though I'll have to see this damage potential and voodoo magic trickery for myself to believe it. In any case, could you please explain if it's possible to throw out his CE after a "GS-enabling" move(i.e. 66A6, 33B6, etc.) by doing 236A+B+K? If not, is it possible/effective to buffer the full CE input before you get 2A or [insert TCing move here] stuffed?

As always, I appreciate the response :)

He can punish tasb with at least 4kbe:b, which is cheaper than a CE and does comparable damage to what much of the cast would get with their CEs.

But if I don't win every single match at my launch tourney 3-0 then I will have confirmed that Nightmare is terrible in Soulcalibur 5 and I will quit forever.

does it really have enough speed and range to punish TAS B? I kinda doubt it...

tasb is -16. It would be stupid if it didn't.

I think. Or maybe I'm thinking of something else, but I thought I read that it was -16 or about there. At this point I am drawing a complete blank and have no way to back any of this up.

speedwise it might work then. 4K is pretty short range though so it would depend how much TAS B pushback on block

Something I realized recently that I don't think has been mentioned is that the way the GI system was changed may have screwed up his 1[A]/1aK "mixup." Since GI beats both low and high at the same time now it probably beats both options.

Does he even have 1ak anymore? I could never get it out.

It wouldn't be very sensible to make tasb unsafe but also push out too much for some characters to properly punish. That's probably part of the reason it's unsafe now: less push.

Even if it's something like a:g:a punishable that should be enough to keep it in check.
