Maxi Video Thread

I'll give this move a shot next time I play. My worry about using this against Yoshi though is his 3A/3AB. I know this move can smack you out of LI B after 4B, so I'm guessing it does the same after 66B4. Luckily with 4B though, Yoshi still has worry about getting checked off by LO BK.

He can smack u with it, but then you can always block if you think he's going to do it. 3A is no damage at all, iirc, you won't be CH if you try to guard.
But remember you MUST mix, all versions. 66B staggers viciously out of 3AB range, your opponent will be/should be careful with it

Nice videos, Fhwoarang.

Criticisms:
Seemed like barely used any lows aside from 1K, not that Maxi's other lows are great, but I think they deserved a bit more use. And on the topic of move choices... I really liked the way you would occasionally fish for 9K, and 88A, but you were not exactly following them up ideally(You did use the standard 4B after ch 88A once though). And finally Yoshi UBs. The 8A+B flying UBs need to be teched forward, and the 4K ones teched to your character's right.

But honestly, I really like your style of Maxi. You seem to be able to make things work for you through sheer variety, and persistence.

About 66B4: The pace of the match is important when using it. Fhwoarang was landing it often, and I think that has a lot to do with the relentless style of those matches.

i totally whore out 66B4 it is a great move (ask anyone that plays me often and youll see why)

really long range: makes people think they can come and attack as they please the trick is in knowing when to cancel for the LIB_{B} tech step/crouch

mid range (close enough to wiff first 2 cycles but clip the last spin): again its more about the mind games than anything else, just experiment untill you feel comfortable with it, it has good cancles (LIB_K (K is good if they get cocky and think they know your game)

close range: this is my fav position, 66B4 hit hit g LIB the second hit of the spins will knockdown the cancel to LIB will catch many people and bounce them.

wake up: pull this move over people. makes them not wanna move. you will catch many many people with this on wake up. (at least i do, even people experianced with maxi)

1 last side note

wall the maxi's left, this move becomes godlike. it will pin to the wall and if connects the damage is very very good. if they block it they eat up to 4-5 hits fast before you cancel

i very rearly let the full 66B4 come out, its more of a mind game (as is everything with maxi)

Here's a video of myself playing Maxi:
I'd be glad to get some feedback on improvements and otherwise. Im not used to tournaments so I did some weird things. Like throwing to much, it was simply my fastest reaction in some situations due to jittery nerves.

I should say that we both know each others characters well. It's beacuse of him and most other good players always punishing my 66B4 attempts that I stopped using it so much. I opted for punishing offensive runs towards me with it and that's how it's been ever since. You can see this happening in the video.

I'll try using it more again according to the inspiration I got here and see how it goes.

Your maxi is pretty solid. Nice videos.
I think one way you could improve is start attacking with more damaging moves. More 4AB's, 9K's, LI B's, 236K's, and B+K's. Never saw you actually do B+K, so i highly recommend learning that JF if you haven't already - it really is one of his best moves. There were also a couple of times that I saw 33A with no A+Bg followup.
As for Taki specific advice, I saw you kept trying to A+Bg whenever she went up for a teleport. I'd recommend you start either taking a step back and to the side, sidewinding down (towards RO), or even just going for a 8K. The first two options will beat out everything but take a quicker reaction. Doing the 8K can be more of a last minute reaction but is still pretty good. 8K will punish the teleport A and it will mess up the combo for teleport B.

Thanks for the tips! Yeah I need to program the B+K into my muscle memory as THE punisher. Regarding 4AB. I don't quite understand how to use it? Slow startup therefore easy to block, high and very unsafe. As punisher it requires a very fast recognition that you have a punish oppurtunity since it,s slow startup will result in it getting blocked. So in my book it's titled "unpractical" at the moment.

By the way. If you look 2:18 minutes into the video the 4AB casued really heavy CH damage to Taki's teleport :D Happy suprise

Nice Maxi, i have a few suggestions as well. i personally loved that you attempted all those throws, they were all sensible attempts.
What i do recommend is to step WAY more than you are now, our maxi was static for the most part, very back and forth in teh same plane. ALso, please work on using the hesitation you've forced from 4B. You're not commited to ONLY doing 4BB. Remember the LO BK part is for containment to make them freeze from 4B. RO and BL are decent shifts afterward. Even teh natural shift to RC is useful ;) keep up the good work, nice repping Maxi :)

About changing the 4b. Do you mean on hit or block? On block my good opponents don't seem to have any trouble seeing an unsafe shift. So I mostly stick to 4bb on hit for that juicy frame adv kick And 4b LI b on block. Perhaps there's a good trade of in your 4b tips I don't understand yet. In general i feel that my opponents don't have so many issues with reacting to stance shifts on block.

But on hit, isnt it better to go for guaranteed 4bb,k?

Hey guyes, why don't you put up more videos. There's a lack of videos from the best Maxi's in this forum. At least from the ones that have alot to say :)

New korean mirror match players video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wfqFEv7DYI&NR=1[/url] (I think it has'nt been posted before)

. Another video, player Holy. Pretty funky one since he's relying on stances whole heartedly. It looks to me like Yun is making Holy look good by being bad though.

nice maxi you have there regarding 4B, you can always go with 4B LO K, 4BA for AA heavy opponents, 4B PSL2 LI A to to hit checks, or even just 4Bg 1K_2A for those who are watching stances.

unless you have the reaction to see if 4B hits and still able to decide if you should follow the LO BK, then you can do little mix ups here and there

Edit: ok after watching a 2nd time, i noticed something about your throws, there's this slight forward movement everytime you attempt a throw, might seem like a small move, but somewhat obvious to the opponent, which is why your opponent ducked most of them, throws that connected (regardless hit or break) didn't come with that movement.

another thing is Throws are like your "freeze" button, you seem to do them when you totally stop

seems like ducking is a habitual thing, you can use that to your advantage, forward step aK is an evil option~

Wow, those were really great tips. I was not aware of my characters body language. Regarding 4b. Hit detecting it is not hard for me offline. I do 4B LI B on block when both players are defensive and the opponent like punishing with verticals or aa. I'll keep your tips in mind when I have this evenings matches.

That inspired me to think out of the box so I got an idea. If this works i'll stick to 4B,Bk on hit to keep it guaranteed and simple so that I can focus more on what to do if it is blocked.

4B on block package

4B with a delayed second Bg mixed with 4B LI B attempts. Sometimes the delay input for 4B,B may be off which gives a LI B instead "fail safe".
4B, 1k or 2a
4BA to keep it fresh.
4B PSL2 LI A

(In theory 4B delay B should make the reaction to 4B LI B at least slightly slower against a really good opponent. This is a evil sprank on the notion that anti Maxi is to recognize stance shift delays. )

This is the most practical 4B on block package I can think of. What are your thoughts, additions, something better?

EVerything you mentioned is logical as long as you've read your opponent's reaction. Every opponent behaves differently towards my 4B, block, hit, CH. A lot of the times i can't hit confirm to do the LO BK everytime (sometimes i don't want to anyway). I have options.

LI B is a fail safe, cuz it's safe, as is LO A. AA fails to them well LI not LI B.

Post 4B is all about reading. I made a 4B thread with the exact frameage...it's somewhere in the forum. Test it out, with various responses on block, hit CH. For eg 4B(CH) neutral to RC B jumps 2As for eg. YOu must be aware of ALL your options and ALL your counters for common responses. Spacing is an issue as well. Opponents usually DON'T get fancy here. Slight hesitation on their part adds frame adv...so weirdish shifts like 4B (hit) psl3 RO A works. Everything in moderation i would say.

i had a few recent videos recorded of me playing against sorrybaskets over at krayzieCD's, but i gues the video was corrupted. i'll try to get some other videos recorded when i go over there next time. Theres a couple that I posted a few months back against Hajime, i dunno if you saw those. Those are kinda outdated though, I play a bit differently now..

Really looking forward to that! I'll post some new videos of me in a recent Swedish SC4 tournament as soon as they are uploaded to youtube.

i posted vids probably like a year ago, but i don't play sc anymore :/ haven't played in whew, i can't even remember. So those matches are old as dirt

maybe...one day lol

does ATL_R3DD even play anymore? I haven't him put out a vid for like a year. He is very good, but from what i've seen, he takes more risks than I am comfortable taking.

So then it's up to us who still play Maxi to post some new vids, come on now :)

Regarding ATL_R3DD. He does not hit confirm and follows through on all his blocked combos hoping for the best for example. A good contemporary player would kick his ass, he is offering himself on a platter with all the risks he's taking. You just can't play Maxi like that if you want to get good. Someone has to say it so that future Maxi's don't get a wrong start.

If our goal is to share our thoughts on how to take Maxi to the future I think it's anti-productive to say that ATL_R3DD is playing Maxi properly. He was interesting when we were in heavy experimentation after the game came out, not now. He had his time, respect to him.
