Shiki is a murder mystery at it's core.
It's not. You generally know who is killing who. It's a drama with strong philosophical themes.
I give Shiki a 9/10.

Wow that's a huge, and ridiculous, generalization over all anime that comes out. That's a joke. It's true there's a lot more moe blob and ecchi stuff but that's because there's a lot more anime in general coming out, like a lot more. For me I watch ol school and a bit of new school but when it comes to anime in general the ol school was a tad over the hill than new school. Anime today is either a moeblob (Which i hate ugh... *looks at Kon -_-x) or perverse Fan service (looks at Queens Blade). Anime wont be like Kenshin (forever my fave) or berserk or beck again. Last anime I saw was sengoku basara and that had the new school flare with the ol school feel of a lot of nonsense on the screen xD. So its hard for me to look at a anime now and pick one that is my fave without it falling into the two categories I listed above. Some do stand out though from time to time.
7/10? that's pretty bad in terms of anime grading. but to each their own. I wonder if i'm gonna find another anime that has me as connected emotionally as i did Shiki any time soon. Grave of Fireflies had me in too deep. probably the greatest tear jerker anime out there in my opinion. before that was some of the characters in Texhnolyze. and before that was Haibane Renmei. I guess i'm not a huge fan of Shonen anime or manga. i think it's an overdone genre. Shoujo seems to have more room to explore. hmmm. gotta ponder that some more.Shiki got a 7/10 from me if i remember correctly. Wasn't AMAZING. Was quite good though.
What does that even mean? Anime grading isn't even a thing dude. It's a standard grading scale out of 10, and that's above average. That's all it is....... that's all it ever will be. It literally cannot be anything else.7/10? that's pretty bad in terms of anime grading. but to each their own. Okay, first off, there's only been like three instances of monster rape in the entirety of Berserk, and each time it's supposed to freak/gross you out. It's completely different in purpose to normal fanservice, which is put in to other anime and manga just to attract more viewers. Not to mention how fundamentally different graphically depicted monster rape and a panty shot are. If you want to talk about fanservice in Berserk, you should be talking about the constant bare female chests, and Miura's creepy fixation with sexuallizing young characters.I find it hypocritical for Berserk fans to complain about fanservice when the berserk manga features monster rape consistently.
I didn't remember the goat demon orgy part, actually. Didn't it turn out to just be some guy in a costume, though? It's been so long since I read that part that I don't even remember anymore, lol.

There has always been tons of awful anime every year. The reason it seems like there's less good anime now is because you probably weren't involved in the anime scene and following seasons back in 1994 or whenever. There are still plenty of good shows coming out every year, you just need to be able to sort them out from the rest of the garbage.
You seem to think that a 10% ratio of GOOD is uncommon or bad when it's the same with EVERYTHING EVER.Well i been watching anime for a long long time and i fell out once i saw Lucky Star and good lord was that horrible and then K-on followed behind and as i started following anime even more it started to drop more into the ecchi/moe blob syndrome. You're right not ALL anime is like that but out of every 20 anime you will find a 3 or 4 gems in the rough of garbage that follows behind it. Hence why i think anime back then was better than anime now: NHK no yokosou, Eden of the east (one of the newer ones), honey and clover, ippo, Jojo, etc etc my list can go on and even with the obscure like Jungle Hale noochi guu but i seen so much it kinda fell flat for me in the years.

This is literally a law (not literally), Sturgeon's Law "ninety percent of everything is crap" . This is a THING, a thing that's existed for years and years. Even back in the day of ANIME this was true. I honestly don't think you've seen enough anime my man.
I'm actually against this law though that 90% of everything is mediocre because i have a high tolerance for stuff and have an incredible amount of patience.
Moe and Ecchi are just genres, incredibly popular right now sure but it's just a thing. I don't dislike any genre, that's the key here. I like everything on it's base idea level, it's up to the writers and directors to make it good. It can be about anything.
K-ON btw is good, not FANTASTIC, but good. WHY? Because it's actually somewhat well written. Add that to decent comedy, amazing animation quality (KyoAni is godlike of course), good music scores.... also bad ones.... and you have a good show. It's a simple matter.
Same with Lucky Star except replace good music with an incredible amount of anime references and remove any genre and boom a good show.
