For me I watch ol school and a bit of new school but when it comes to anime in general the ol school was a tad over the hill than new school. Anime today is either a moeblob (Which i hate ugh... *looks at Kon -_-x) or perverse Fan service (looks at Queens Blade). Anime wont be like Kenshin (forever my fave) or berserk or beck again. Last anime I saw was sengoku basara and that had the new school flare with the ol school feel of a lot of nonsense on the screen xD. So its hard for me to look at a anime now and pick one that is my fave without it falling into the two categories I listed above. Some do stand out though from time to time.
Wow that's a huge, and ridiculous, generalization over all anime that comes out. That's a joke. It's true there's a lot more moe blob and ecchi stuff but that's because there's a lot more anime in general coming out, like a lot more.

Shiki got a 7/10 from me if i remember correctly. Wasn't AMAZING. Was quite good though.

7/10? that's pretty bad in terms of anime grading. but to each their own. I wonder if i'm gonna find another anime that has me as connected emotionally as i did Shiki any time soon. Grave of Fireflies had me in too deep. probably the greatest tear jerker anime out there in my opinion. before that was some of the characters in Texhnolyze. and before that was Haibane Renmei. I guess i'm not a huge fan of Shonen anime or manga. i think it's an overdone genre. Shoujo seems to have more room to explore. hmmm. gotta ponder that some more.

What does that even mean? Anime grading isn't even a thing dude. It's a standard grading scale out of 10, and that's above average. That's all it is....... that's all it ever will be. It literally cannot be anything else.

I find it hypocritical for Berserk fans to complain about fanservice when the berserk manga features monster rape consistently.

Okay, first off, there's only been like three instances of monster rape in the entirety of Berserk, and each time it's supposed to freak/gross you out. It's completely different in purpose to normal fanservice, which is put in to other anime and manga just to attract more viewers. Not to mention how fundamentally different graphically depicted monster rape and a panty shot are. If you want to talk about fanservice in Berserk, you should be talking about the constant bare female chests, and Miura's creepy fixation with sexuallizing young characters.

In other news, for those that haven't seen it, the first fall anime season chart is out.

Not a whole lot looks interesting to me, but I will definitely be watching Shin Sekai Yori (Hadn't even heard of it before I saw this, but it seems like it could be really good. Apparently the novel it's based on has won awards), the new JJBA anime, and Gothicmade (Whenever the hell this actually comes out. This thing's been getting pushed back for years now). I might watch the Tiger and Bunny or Madoka Magica movies if they significantly change things from the anime (Since they're just movie versions of what happened in the show).

THREE???????? what manga were you reading lol

I can at least remember
SPOILERS
- monster early on during the past arc is raping townfolk with some other demons (this was cut from the anime)
- casca tentacle raping
- weird goat orgy thing
- troll raping (I feel like this was more than once)

I feel like there were other random (and yeah I mean random) townpeople rapings but I can't recall. dropped after volume 28 (and no this wasn't the main reason). and yea theres some pedo stuff in there too in a few parts

I didn't remember the goat demon orgy part, actually. Didn't it turn out to just be some guy in a costume, though? It's been so long since I read that part that I don't even remember anymore, lol.

honestly it coulda been I totally forget. I honestly just like to argue with people who complain about fanservice

I stopped reading it mostly because I felt like it was going nowhere

rurouni kenshin FTW.

Well i been watching anime for a long long time and i fell out once i saw Lucky Star and good lord was that horrible and then K-on followed behind and as i started following anime even more it started to drop more into the ecchi/moe blob syndrome. You're right not ALL anime is like that but out of every 20 anime you will find a 3 or 4 gems in the rough of garbage that follows behind it. Hence why i think anime back then was better than anime now: NHK no yokosou, Eden of the east (one of the newer ones), honey and clover, ippo, Jojo, etc etc my list can go on and even with the obscure like Jungle Hale noochi guu but i seen so much it kinda fell flat for me in the years.

There has always been tons of awful anime every year. The reason it seems like there's less good anime now is because you probably weren't involved in the anime scene and following seasons back in 1994 or whenever. There are still plenty of good shows coming out every year, you just need to be able to sort them out from the rest of the garbage.

I agree I dropped out of anime in... well the year K-on came out so... 2010 or 11 dont remember but I have fell off and just read my manga from time to time but that is kinda falling off for me. I will watch the Persona 4 anime and whenever they decide to remake the kenshin series since the creator said he wants to do it again. Plus the new jojo anime has also have me intrigued. So im rather loose on anime now but i will watch what i can whenever i get a recommendation for some.

You seem to think that a 10% ratio of GOOD is uncommon or bad when it's the same with EVERYTHING EVER.

This is literally a law (not literally), Sturgeon's Law "ninety percent of everything is crap" . This is a THING, a thing that's existed for years and years. Even back in the day of ANIME this was true. I honestly don't think you've seen enough anime my man.

I'm actually against this law though that 90% of everything is mediocre because i have a high tolerance for stuff and have an incredible amount of patience.

Moe and Ecchi are just genres, incredibly popular right now sure but it's just a thing. I don't dislike any genre, that's the key here. I like everything on it's base idea level, it's up to the writers and directors to make it good. It can be about anything.

K-ON btw is good, not FANTASTIC, but good. WHY? Because it's actually somewhat well written. Add that to decent comedy, amazing animation quality (KyoAni is godlike of course), good music scores.... also bad ones.... and you have a good show. It's a simple matter.
Same with Lucky Star except replace good music with an incredible amount of anime references and remove any genre and boom a good show.

It's the-

of slice of life/school comedy shows

Key thing in your sentence from what I read is you have high tolerance for a show with a limited time and thats where people will be different. I have been watching anime for a long time and i mean... a LONG time... to the point i think i watched it too long but im no master when it comes to the matter. We can agree to disagree im glad you gave K-on a chance and so did I and good lord that anime was a WASTE of my time and patience. Not only was it practically about nothing (girls making a band) it was poorly written (to me and this is very opinionated not law) and not in the slightest funny. Now KyoAni did a great job with haruhi but K-on no... just no...

We wont see eye to eye on this but one point i agree with you is yes anime has been ecchi/moe for years but it wasnt so blatant to the point it became retarded like it is now. But, as i said we will agree to disagree. This isnt a argument thread this is as it is named obligatory anime thread. I just wish to see my kenshin remake really lol but i aint holding my breath and hell ill try sailor moon series that is supposed to come out xD.

we all have our opinions. it's okay to express them. doesn't have to turn into an argument. I don't like Kension cause i thought i was in for a realistic samurai anime for once and when i saw the main character do that shockwave on the ground i felt my heart drop for the series and did not want to watch yet another unrealistic over exaggerated samurai anime.

Kenjitsu doesn't like K-on for their reasons. where animefreak likes it. animefreak doesn't like Shiki like the way I do.

It's okay to not like something someone else likes or loves. i think it's interesting to hear their reason. just don't get heart broken for their reason. i rather hear a legit reason than them saying they hate it and leaving it at that.

No i have a high tolerance for things in general forever, not a limited time.
I give everything a chance..... everything.

And how long you've been watching anime doesn't mean anything by itself, you have to mix it with how much you've seen and how you viewed it throughout the years.
(Such as Vince here. You can't rate a show on a preconception when it turns out to not be what you thought. You can dislike it, but you can't judge it until you go back and view it objectively, which is hard and borderline impossible to do. Making said persons thoughts on the show moot.)
I also like how an argument can start from someone liking a show you also like, just not as much.

And the law wasn't about the writing lol, it was about EVERYTHING. Literally.

And obligatory anime thread means everything about anime, including arguments so technically this can be an argument thread.
I also like arguments unfortunately..... i didn't want to be this way BUT I EXIST.

And lastly, it doesn't matter what genre is the biggest at any given time. All kinds of shows are coming out all the time, every season, every year. Just avoid the stuff you don't like. You don't like MOE than never watch a moe anime series, and on the flip side of that if you don't like MOE than you don't have a valid opinion on any show in the genre lol, that's how it works.
If you don't like Pork and not only decide become a food critic but a MEAT critic, and you rate pork. You're a joke and would be taken off the job quite fast.
