Why do we dislike certain characters? (Gameplay only)

Maxi. It could be your 1st time playing but I'm sure you could easily pull off a ten hit combo with him. I don't respect anyone who would use such a character to boost their stats.

Well I just want to learn you that a "combo" has a very specific definition here. Maybe you're thinking stance loops or some sort of pressure/rushdown.

Idk what u call it. But it sucks. Press 2 buttons and you already have a chain of soul gauge breaking hits!

Training Mode. Next time you have trouble against one specific tactic or move, save your replay of it, memorize the input, and make the dummy spam it. You can make it even easier to overcome if you use the punishment lists floating around here, and instead of telling everyone you're a salty scrub by whining about things and making them hate you, you can learn to actually deal with it.

Oh, and learn Maxi. He's a very deep but mediocre character, which stops seeming so powerful once you learn him(or at least how to deal with him).

I dislike astaroth because lol22_88B/BEhitboxes

I sort of dislike Voldo for his BT 2A+B, but I think I just need to learn to expect it.

Sometimes you get the impression that there is a significant player base that doesn't want to improve at all.. people don't even stay in player matches that long if losing, all the whining, etc.

I think proper advice should always be posted in any thread to get everyone out of a bad mentality, and it can be pretty frustrating to watch how wrong assumptions or downright wrong information is passed forward and even built upon to create further mess. Mitsu 4B has a flawed status as a broken tool, and people don't want to see solutions. These things seem to feed themselves and soon we have something like...

But, real talk? ... I hate Mitsurugi because anybody can win as him.

Astaroth: Grab centered moveset
Aeon: Too slow, wish he was good because he looks cool.
Algol: Too meter centered.
Elysium: Shouldn't exist, and has changes that make her better then Oprah in Oprah form, if you are going to change her, then why not always have her be Oprah?
Hilde: Too plain
Kilik: Shouldn't be an edge master wannabe.
Maxi: Pain in the ass to play and fight against.
Natsu: Annoying
Patroklos: Asshole
Pyrrha: Whiny and annoying.
Oprah: One dimensional psycho.
Viola: Overhyped, incompassionate.
Zas: NOT FUCKING IN SC5.
ZWEI: Brooding, pussy that needs help, slow.

I wanted to start this thread because I wanted to see which characters in general are disliked and by whom. .

I actually don't dislike any of the characters - NOW- but when I first started with SCV... I had an amazing shitlist- the top of which were the three mimics. But all thats changed. What I've found that helps me is to play as the mimics: Elysium (mainly because I find the girls movesets more rounded and intuitive than the males), Edgemaster (because he uses both genders), and finally Kilik.

I admit I have dificulty playing with aPat and definately have to be in the mood to play as Zwei, Algol, perhaps Dampierre as stand alones...

But then... the way I see things is that playing one character all the time i.e.- Natsu - gets dull. When you know the moves - or most of them- so well it's time to use something else because of a lack of challenge in my opinion.

Also I find playing as the mimics - stimulating and total fun. Because you get to learn -or at least have a sense - of all of the roster- bar Algol (I'm sure after SC4 Algol would have made a better choice of Mimic than Kilik), and its made me want to learn the characters more without needing to specialise....

I do however find Leixia, and the Pyrrhas voices/quotes annoying.

After reading the entire thread, I say it's safe to say Tira is the most loved character in Soul Calibur V... Gameplay wise.

Yes, as we all know, gay men permanently moonwalk while standing still and walk around by doing the crab... and hold people above their heads using a motorized katar and spin them into the air, whilst doing a flip.

Is Voldo being gay when he butt-butts a female character?

That's never safe.
With the orb, it's incredibly punishable on block.
Without the orb, it's easily stepped... It does track for a while, but, just keep moving and it misses, giving you a large window to punish.
As it always hits twice, and Viola can't stop herself, its easily GIed, or JGed, if you like.

Also, you say "shoryuken", but it's not like it has invincibility.
Also-also, she can do a lot worse to you, a lot safer.

It is one of few attacks of hers that has decent range, but its far too unsafe to be worth using often.

The amount of Viola hate this thread will surface...
I can smell the debate from here. ^^

Learn how to fight her. She is unorthodox, and it can seem odd that she has ToD combos... but so does Algol and I don't see his name mentioned here once.
She is not SCIV-Hilde broken as she has easily exploitable weaknesses.

My main concern with her is that she should have never been put i the game in the first place, for a figthing game known for using weapon combat they sure did fuck up by giving someone a moveset that was mostly ranged now I know that Ivy is also ranged but Ivy's whip doesn't fly off the screen where it's unseeable until it swings in for a low hit or that viola can also block while her ball flies everywhere she can come at you with a low while her ball comes into screen half a second before impact, the fact of the matter is you can't get better against Viola without learning how to play her or fight against her and if you get your butt kicked when fighting her then your residual hate for the character isn't going to go away when I'm spending good game time for studying her retarded strings. Solution: if the ball goes off screen zoom out so people that are decent at the game can react to it coming back, that way I dont have to sit in training mode not having fun so that I can win against a character whose main strategy is to exploit her safest moves and use cheap setups that APPEAR to not have a solution. All in all just not a fun character to play against.

Natsu. Natsu, Natsu, Natsu. Oh god I hate her I hate her I hate her. I want to just keep on saying that but I need to give a proper reason. That reason is that she is the most overpowered character in the game, alongside Mitsurugi and Astaroth. In the hands of a scrub, she is really, really annoying. In the hands of a pro, she is completely and utterly broken. One of my friends on PSN mains her, and he's practically at tourney level. I literally cannot beat him when he uses Natsu. Eifher he just teleports/jumps over me all the time or just shreds me before I have the chance to hit back. Argh. I don't know if Taki was as bad in the previous games, but ooh, I hate the ginger menace.

Astaroth. This guy is totally broken. He can basically spam his "short charge" move and ensure you can never get a hit in unless you have lightning reactions. He has too much output for too little input.

Mitsurugi. Another low-input-high-output character. Can just spam the same moves and never get hit.

Raphael. His jabs are way too fast and cause too much damage and knockback. Stupidly good grapples. Stupidly good pokes. Just stupidly good.

Maxi. Very similar to Natsu. Makes me want to punch the guy using him.

On the other end of the scale, Z.W.E.I. This guy is completely and utterly useless. He looks cool, looking like something out of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, but he does so little damage, has such crappy range and an appalling grapple. The only way to win with him is to play against an incompetent player.
