Raphael General Discussion/Q&A Thread

lol at some of the awful design decisions:

33(B)~prep on CH dropping an enemy to the ground stunned while you're stuck in prep so you can't combo
A+BA -- CH on the 2nd hit lifts the opponent so high that your last A will go under them and whiff.
B+K evade (B)~prepIII B - as basically 0 realignment so expect to whiff a lot.

Interesting design decision:

Notice 22B on whiff and block, Raph kinda freezes his attack animation longer than on hit, which is actually noticeable.

33B~prep is an odd decision but still useful on block and spacing although you did have to plan on block or CH to use it, I never used it much but it was there.

A+B CH means you should have been going for the launch in the first place because he should be able to 6BB after the launch unless it's different in HD. A+BA especially the A should only come out in combos or to cover your ass if the A+B doesn't go as planned.

All of his attacks are riddled with alignment problems, generally the AE attacks were decent at hitting what they needed to. The whole game is full of alignment problems so plan around it.

22B was hella unsafe in 2, better make sure it hits. 22B, 33B mixups still work though.

you can cancel P4 transitions which i believe is only 6B and 33_99B. you might bw able to set up an SCC in between.

but you do have 6(B)g mindgames and you can prob do CH 33(B)g 4A+B

also i like P2-4 a P1 (B) or
P2-4 a(B) to make it short. i only tested as much as i can but it can aGI both high horizontals and mod verticals so far

Raph's B+K and A+K windows are HELLA early. I think maybe even faster than GI (unless i'm executing slow).
You can evade the 2nd hit of most BBs (go test on mitsu and xianghua) and try some AAs. I can't get a GI after blocking the 1st hit of BBs, but B+K is easy pie.

1 frame dawg! Go NUTS out there. None of the i10~14 bullshit of aGI's in V. This shit can be crammed in a ton of places and is ace against reckless AA and 2A's post clash.

Also, sway evade can be delayed a bit so you can AE Xiang AAB, delay, and cram the {B} B before she can do the 3rd hit and more!

Just want to remind everyone of the 236 auto-evade auto-attack. This also activates early and will sometimes make you do a move when you clearly didn't mean to do anything, so beware of empty 236 to try and set something up.

Also, keep in mind that there is a LOT of frame advantage in this game...and Raph's poking game is actually quite good. 6B / 2K / WR B are all uninterruptable on hit (H/L/M) and can be pretty good to make people online rage at you!

Interesting stuff. So what were raph's biggest weaknesses aside from lack of tracking? Did he struggle with TC moves like he does on sc5, and were his stances easy to read or counter? I imagine prep was way stronger when it comes to mixups because it seems to be a even more vital part of his gameplay, considering a lot of moves, even aGI ones, had a prep entry option.

There is a LOT of super strong stuff in this game, none of which Raph really has, but he has a lot of GOOD stuff.

Step is SUPER good so Raph's lack of strong horizontal (especially strong Hori mid...not from prep) is far and away his biggest weakness, but good range, space control, great 2K, and amazing RO potential, he's really good at making people rage, and super fun to play.

Damage out put is his biggest weakness. His biggest damage combo is like 80 damage. That's off a CH 66A+B, good luck landing this in 2. He can stop step, it's a bit more work for him but it's not impossible. Hitting the other guy 6 times when he has to hit you 3 is a much larger hurdle especially in 2's bananas world of safe fast launchers and low life bars.

A side weakness I don't remember being talked about is how Raph's skill set would quickly limit the opp to a move set Raph couldn't deal with very well. Maybe this was just me, who knows?
