Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

A friendly reminder to those always expecting a reveal weekly or getting their hopes too high: I could be wrong, but I believe some far more relaxed expectations, albeit unfortunately, should be applied in regards to this in line with Okubo during one of his E3 interviews stating that information would come slowly. What that means when taking into consideration a little under 4 months until launch, while it could be anything, I wouldn't expect anything faster than 3-5 weeks between each reveal, or at least close to that until the last month or 2 before release. Certainly not as good as fast as it could be or that many of us would prefer, but I could see that being a more realistic range.

A consideration is also that reveals haven't really been all that consistent.

Reveal order: 2(Mitsu & Sophie) in December, 4(NM, Groh, Xianghua, Kilik) in January, 2(Ivy & Zas) in February, 1(Geralt) in March, 1(Sieg) in April 3 weeks later I think(?), another 3 weeks for the Taki Leak in May and then Yoshi 2 weeks after that?

I may have that pace wrong a bit, but the point is that number of characters at a time or per month haven't been set in stone, and the Taki and Yoshi leaks may have forced their reveals earlier than intended which could likely explain the lack of a proper character reveal this month. If you think about it, that would make the most sense given the E3 build and the fact Sony had to take down a copy of the Yoshi trailer I believe(?). When I say proper, if it's not obvious, I mean you can't really count the art of a few characters, Cervantes' Soul Edge, or Inferno wielding Soul Edge which might not be playable, as proper reveals. It also remains to be seen if Talim is actually in or not regardless of likelihood, given the small chance Okubo could just have been teasing at the fact people talk about her a lot. Sure, I expect them all to be in and playable more than likely, but that doesn't change the lack of official confirmation.

At earliest, I expect some time early-to-mid next month, myself. Likely pointless to have said all this, and I know I'll also still hold some hope weekly for a reveal, but it's worth considering these factors realistically. Best to just be patient knowing we'll be seeing a likely great game and thankful for a new installment at all, for now. After all, I know plenty would be upset if SCV(albeit personally my favorite to a point) was the last main installment, and not counting SCII:HDO, Lost Swords could have been the last of Calibur which would leave a bad taste in everyone's mouths really.

I just played some broken destiny on my shield tv. Upscale it to a higher resolution it's pretty decent. Anyways I wish they had a remastered collection so we can play that until SCVI come out. The wait is hard like for real.

There are about 16 week until the game is out, considering the trend of reveals next Thursday there will be 15 weeks-

10 characters to be revealed (Yes, I still think CaS is on the middle of the screen) Which means they can comfortably reveal one character every 2 weeks and in some of them even 2 characters (I would guess those will be the final weeks).

I do feel like they're being kinda passive marketing wise, nothing wrong with a slow approach, but a more active twitter account and things like artworking teasing and/or just showing something interesting about the series history wouldn't be unwelcome.

I don't think we will be getting a new build until the game's release (They are probably just gritting their teeth trying to polish the game as much as possible for release). So hopefully they give us a few more trailers besides announcement ones, like a CaS mode trailer.

Pretty much. They haven't been consistent with the reveals at all. All we know was that the official reveals were on Thursdays, but one day there's 4 characters, then 2, then 1. Not to mention there's often a long or short period between each reveal. Their twitter should also be more active than it currently is, because just having demos and Tournaments and then keeping quiet isn't enough imo. If there were as active like they were on Facebook before SC6 was revealed, it'd be much better.

I also find interesting that despite the game coming in roughly 4 months, there's still a lot we don't know about the game yet:

-What exactly is the full number of characters on release?
-We know Inferno is in the game, but is he playable and does that confirm mimics?
-Do the dlc characters take up slots on the select screen [like Dampirre's in SCV], or are they in hidden slots?
-How many stages are there?
-We know Creation is returning, but how does it compare to the previous games in terms of features?
-Are there Creation-only styles like in SCIII and SCV's Devil Jin?
-What is this "second story" mode? Is it like Chronicles of the Swords, where creations can be played? Or something new?
-Is there a museum feature?
-Exhibition?
-Team Vs?
-A REAL Arcade Mode?
-What about online and how it functions (would it have global colossem and 6-player lobbies with spectate mode like SCV)?

I'm not expecting a huge info dump on the game before release or if any of these are in the game. It's just that the game is coming soon, yet there is A LOT that's been kept in the dark up to this point. That would cause a lot of people to get impatient about getting info. Let's not forget that between Dec 8th to Jan 25th, all we've seen was Sophitia and Mitsu. They were both over-examined to death, until Kilik, Groh, Nightmare, and Xianghua came around

I think it would be a special kinda of dumb of Namco to add the DLC slots on E3, because the sheer backlash they would get for giving the idea the base roster was more than it was would fuck them up.

The fact that Inferno is using Soul Edge (Nightmare style) makes me think that most likely than not he will just be using that, they offed Mokujin from Tekken 7 and after V, I think they could go a while without a mimic.

CaS is something that I think will be teased later, if I had to bet I think about one month before the release date. I'm still of the opinion Jin was just a last fuck you Harada forced into V. I don't really think CaS styles are a good idea for a game Okubo had to fight for time for.

I'm pretty sure the secondary story mode is the characters personal story modes and I think it was even said it to be it in some interview or something like that. And I feel like this was the real arcade you were asking for, because otherwise V had an arcade mode.

All in all, modes wise, I think there are painfully simple modes such as survival and team battle that they should implement, otherwise from the screenshots we've saw there is more than one type of versus, so I think we might be getting special versus, which is something fairly unique about SoulCalibur.

In the original SoulCalibur, Inferno would always use Nightmare's style for the first round of the fight. He'd also appear with (Nightmare's 1P) Soul Edge in cutscenes.

But story mode fights usually don't have multiple rounds, so, if he only appears in the story mode, you're likely correct.

You guys say they don't know how to market a fighting game, yet here you are, every day, pulling your hairs out because of this game. Unpredictable reveals give them more attention I think, maybe it's what they want, old players going crazy might attract some new people xD I am still upset that the collector's edition in Europe has no artbook and the silver statue is plain ugly. It's so disrespectful to European players to have regional CEs with worse items in it ugh and then they can say "See? They just dont buy CE in Europe! Kappa"

Inferno has always started out just using Soul Edge, but then swaps to other weapons as the fight progresses, at certain health intervals. I'd say he can still be a mimic fairly reliably maybe. But we don't know for sure if he'll be playable like he wasn't in SoulCalibur II.

But in a way, I sort of like those unknowns, in that they could all have positive answers, and if we don't get all the answers until the game releases, each great thing could be a wonderful surprise and more things to see and do sight unseen will just be like SoulCalibur II and III, especially III, which would be a great positive.

In SC2, Inferno would always mimic your own moveset in the first round and then swap to other moves (even if you were defeated and tried to continue, his weapon would be random at the next "first round").
