Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Are you saying that Yoshi and Mitsu can be confused with each other? Come on, they are visually different and they share, what? BB?
I think this is a core reason as to why I can't take you seriously when you start with the clone talk, you're more worried about the aesthetics than with the functionality, I understand that Cassandra players/fans are getting almost as bad as Talim players, but it doesn't change the fact that Cassandra shares about 3 or 4 moves that use the same animation as Sophitia, but somewhow there is a case to be done for Yoshimitsu and not the others ? Because he has one extra Katana that sheathed during most of the fight?

At the end of the day people still circle back to her, there is a conversation constantly being done about this character, ZWEI had a unique movelist, but no one gives a fuck about him and Setsuka while has her fans gets a luke warm response from people, does it mean they shouldn't be in? Absolutely not (well as a ZWEI player he shouldn't be in)- but it doesn't change the fact they are taking popularity in consideration.

Say what you want about the popularity pool, and yes it was rigged by Talim fans, but out of the 13 announced characters only Amy, Cassandra, Tira and Talim are not announced yet-And even so Vergeben hard leaked Tira and Talim and thinks Cassandra's chances are high.

Do I think Cassandra is in? Absolutely not. But that doesn't matter, because if she is at worse she will be taking place of another "clone".

When I'm saying (innocently) that I want more female characters in the game it makes modos angry as hell, but when y'all come with the clone argument for the 999999th time, nobody's here to put it down :S
Because you saying you want more females characters is pointless drivel and it doesn't affect gameplay any, it is just a demand for the sake of demand. It gets really annoying after a while.

Gameplay is only one aspect of a game. Also aesthetics is a major component to gameplay. Is why everyone isn't androgynous fighter like in rockem sockem robots.

It's right there in their names! Mitsurugi... Yoshimitsu... Yoshimitsurugi!

Seriously though, they do actually share a bunch of animations and moves. This is not a comparison of the full movelists, but Mitsurugi and Yoshimitsu share more basic moves and animations than Sophitia and Cassandra:

Pretty sure the reasons why people don't think Mitsurugi and Yoshimitsu aren't similar at all are because Yoshimitsu looks ridiculous and he has several moves which are ridiculous (like using his sword like a pogo stick).

Maybe the solution is to give Cassandra a top hat and a move which transforms her shield into a trampoline. Maybe then people will finally stop calling her a clone.

I think there's more to the Cassandra clone issues honestly. You hit on a bit of it with image. Both girls roughly the same age, both from Greece, both with a dink sword and shield. Both wearing short skirts in very similar outfits. They are clones on so many fronts they just look and feel the same without looking really really closely for differences. Even if they share fewer moves, there overall is just too similar in other respects.

I think Cassandra or Yoshimitsu already earn the right not to be called clones because of their different behavior compared to Sophitia or Mitsurugi.
But i do want to see the most variety of fighting styles in the game as possible, a hand-to-hand style will be very appreciated like Valeria's.

"After a while" lmao you're going too far with your words, you can't post about it without being told to shut up right away.
Okay.

A frivolous argument is not any less frivolous because you can ground it in a technicality, yes it is part of that games general build, but it doesn't change the fact you're asking for more women fighters just for it's own sake.

Cassandra, and Sophitia are not clones. They play ABSOLUTELY different. At high level their strats arecompletely unique.
Cassandra is also one of THE MOST popular characters in SoulCalibur.

Thank you, and goodnight~

Okay.

Define what you mean by "just for it's own sake"? Cause it sounds kind of like a BS overly open statement with no real meaning meant to do nothing but trivialize the opinions, desires and preferences of those that differ from yours. Frivolous is purely a matter of perspective. It's entirely linked to this thing called an opinion.

Just because you find something frivolous means jack. This is clearly a topic of import to lots of people, and thus it is clearly not frivolous to them. Your opinion is not the end all to a discussion in which others hold contrary views.

I would think the criteria for deciding if a character is a clone starts and ends with their moveset. It's their moveset which you interact with the entire time as you play as and against them. I agree they look very similar (they are sisters lore-wise, so I think Namco would have a hard time making her look completely different without replacing Cassandra with another character using the same moveset), but I think it would be a huge shame skipping a really fun moveset because the character shares the same hair colour and country of origin as another character.

Like I said it's one part of a whole. I'm just explaining where some of the problems are that create this perspective.

Okay lets review the thing people said in this thread.
"There are too many male characters, we need a equal amount of male and female characters."

The reasoning is, non-existent, there is no reason as to why there should be a equal number of any gender in any given fighting game, no one really cares SkullGirls have only two males, for sake of example.

Then something tired will come up "There needs to be equal representation" which is a bad argument, because quality should always trump numbers. In SoulCalibur if someone didn't fuck up it was probably a female character and tier wise most of the strong characters in the series have been females. Asking for something to change just to fix a issue that doesn't exist is asking for something for it's own sake. You do sound awfully aggressive though. By saying it is important to a lot of people, it does sound like you feel very strongly and personally about such a topic, in fact, by your own logic if someone doesn't want more female characters, let alone a lot of them, then it is important for them to not have more females, which means your opinion is also not the end all of all opinions, ipso facto your opinions mean jack, thus they are frivolous all the same.
