I like the idea of reworking the roster with their kids and pupils and such for a new rebooted setting and story personally. The principle of it is fine if there's a good reason for it and there's cool plans for them that wouldn't really have worked with the old characters.
The problem with SCV is that, due to nobody except Pat and Pyrrha getting more than a brief cameo in the story, we were never given any reason to care about the new characters and want to play as them beyond them being replacements. And in that case there's not really any point in them being there, if you're doing nothing interesting with the new character then just keep the old character around.
SF5 is the same way, SF's story has always been an unimportant barely around thing and Capcom fighters have no side modes or deep lore or whatever so why bother replacing them in the first place? If you're going to have a new character that plays just like an popular old one with barely any story reason behind it why not just keep the old one people already like instead of pushing some newcomer?
