Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

If Taki and Sophitia got removed in SC5, nobody is immune.

Natsu and Omega Pyrrha are Taki and Sophitia. It doesn't matter that its from younger, thinner character models. As a fighting game, what matters is the moveset and all returning characters never have exactly the same moveset anyway.

^ Yup removing and replacing isnt the same thing. As long as the style is in and the character looks similar visually its not a problem.

Most recognizable characters in every series should ALWAYS be there SC: Siegfried, Ivy, Mitsurugi, Voldo, Taki, Cervantes Mortal Kombat: Sub-Zero, Raiden, Sonya, Kitana, Johnny, Scorpion, Kano, Reptile etc

Yeah, no, they're not. I'm not part of the group that hates on the new characters from SC5, but they are NOT and will NEVER be Taki and Sophitia. What "matters" is not for you or any "professional elite" (elite wannabe, of course) to decide. Remember that people who care for their characters because who they are rather than their movesets are the majority, SC5 flopping is proof of that.

Wasn't trying to pass myself off as an elite, i'm definitely not but i do remember what a fighting game is and what the overall point is supposed to be. I'd say SC5 flopping has more to do with fighting games being on the decline overall rather than the character replacements. It also put hardly a drop of focus on any single player elements which i do believe was also a major issue with the majority of fans.

I'm not sure what exactly fighting games will evolve into over the years or if they will just die out entirely but it is clear their days are numbered despite the recent bump in popularity.

Edit: I'd like to point out, my original comment was made in the context of SC6 which does not involve the time skip or any of the new replacements in SC5. Meaning just what Foot said, removing and replacing are different. It doesn't matter what people's opinions are about the new characters. We can't use SC5s replacements as a basis for saying any character can be left out of SC6, that was my whole point.

Yeah but everyone has favorite characters, and not all make it. Who is then sooooo iconic they can't be replaced? Is anyone truly immune?

I mean, is there any one character who if removed would truly make the game not a Soul Calibur in the majorities eyes if all the other characters were there?
Nightmare, Ivy, Voldo. I also really want to say Taki.

I may not have liked 5, but I still consider it a soul calibur game even though it doesn't have Taki and haven't heard anyone say it wasn't. As for Voldo he isn't confirmed yet for 6 and am pretty sure even if he isn't few people will decide it's suddenly not a soul calibur game worth getting.

Is a character necessary for it to be a "Soul Calibur" game is really interesting as applies to other fighting games too and brings a lot to be discussed and questioned.

If Mitsurugi is gone or replaced I think the question becomes is it "your" Soul Calibur that I find intriguing for the individual and the community.

@Ardenwolf good question.

I don't know if Voldo's the type to fit a 'no [character] no buy!' memes. It'd certainly feel wrong to not see him on the roster but is Voldo really going to the the decider for people?

Not that there's any chance of being cut though, sure he's late but they have to keep some icons for later reveals. You can't just have a bunch of spares take up the last few months.
