Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Really? Not even a little bit? I mean like pay homage to. Since they both wander the world to face strong people to get better. Like maxi has some aspects of bruce lee. Ya know what I mean?

Or I guess where I'm trying to get is Musashi and Bruce Lee is inspiration for characters like Mitsu and Maxi.

Sure, a "little." Like I said, there are only vague connections. As Windstar already mentioned, Musashi was famous for developing a two-sword style which Mitsurugi does not adopt. AFAIK the only connection people have made between Mitsu and Musashi is that one of Mitsurugi's joke weapons is a bokken, and in Musashi's famous duel with Sasaki Kojiro he killed him with a bokken that he supposedly carved from the oar of his boat on the way to the island. The problem with that is bokken are often used for training and got even more common around the age when carrying swords became outlawed. So a ronin like Mitsu having one isn't the most convincing thing if you're trying to connect him to Musashi, especially if that's the only thing.

As for Maxi, some people think his fighting style is literally Bruce Lee, but that's a bit of an illusion. We know sometimes Bruce is seen fighting like that unarmed and doing the famous shuffle, but have you ever actually watched Bruce Lee using nunchaku? Sure he does a few nutty things with it but he doesn't dance around so much, he's very precise and focused while Maxi is wild and out of control. So while he's a little bit Bruce Lee inspired, he's more of a theoretical imitation of Bruce Lee. And even then, only in the way he fights, since obviously Bruce wasn't a pirate from the 1500s.

Like there are far more direct references to both Musashi and Bruce Lee out there just short of being carbon copies, but SC never really hits that level when it comes to inspiration. SC characters are more like weapon class representatives than specific figures.

Quick question! Anyone here that has been to EVO? I was considering joining the SC6 demo tournament since I am going to be there, was wondering if they give you some time to practice at all beforehand? I've only had less than an hour of practice with the brand new Ivy and don't wanna make a fool of myself haha.

Also I am assuming they let you bring your own controller to use?

Thanks!

I was just thinking about the future of how the graphics will be like and the games. Boy I can wait for soul calibur x ivy will be WOW! Coming back to reality I think they won't release a demo. Hopefully a beta but that probably be a 2 days long just to test the servers. I'll also be damn if they delayed it like code vein.

I don't understand what you mean? Are you wondering what the final graphics will be like in the final version of this game or just the future in general? Because I thnk this this is the peak we're going to be seeing the franchise go in unless they change it and go for super realism which I doubht they're going to do. As far as games like this go in terms art direction and style, I can't see it going any higher than this except for fixing clipping issues.

The thought of the future of soul calibur games and how they will look on future consoles like ps6+. I know 4k@60 with hdr will be mandatory with improvement of physics and ai. Going by what I've seen with the SCVI models theyre kinda blocky in some areas.

I really hope they stick to the semi-anime style they have and don't go full realism, so please no photogrammetry on characters, at least not on their faces. I really don't like this technique.
So basically I expect more polygons, higher resolution textures, better lip-sync and better rigging (currently some parts of characters' bodies like shoulders/armpits aren't rigged all that well). Maybe in the future they can go full muscle-based rigging, that would be cool. I would also love to see tressFX hair or some other technological equivalent. And more complex cloth physics too. Hopefully with better clothing damage than we have right now when in most cases certain items just explode into nothingness.

Prefer the opposite, the game needs more realism. The characters faces and skin look plastic and their painted eyes look as lifeless as ever!

Preserving anime aesthetics and adding more realistic skin textures are not necessarily mutually excluding goals though:

Hmm... I feel sc4 had it done best. Textures, and artstyle was good.
I just want characters to look alive and like their respective country and ethnicity lol

SoulCalibur VI is still bringing back one of the worst things about SoulCalibur IV for me, though, the ear-piercing Just Input sound effect. But yes, the slowness was the absolute worst, even worse than Yoda.

For me it's the, how to put it, that female "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee" at the start of each round. I mean why have such a pointless sound effect that only comes across as busy work.

SC4 is butt ugly especially when it came to the female faces which had this sameface look. That plus the lack of content compared to SC3 put a cloud over SC5 for me which resulted in me not buying it. SC6 is exactly the aesthetic I wanted to see, clean, bright and vibrant which character faces standing out from one another that are appealiing to look at.

How quick are we to forget how every character in SCIV looked like a pig. Does nobody remember horseface Cassandra?

Cassandra is a beauty in that game and every other game she has been in. Stop being silly.

I ended up buying SoulCalibur V anyway, despite really disliking SoulCalibur IV, because surely it couldn't get worse, right?!
Will admit that SCIV did look too blurry compared to other entries though I got used to it to put it lightly. SCV did look better visually. The things they have in common is the lack of content and splitting one side of the fanbase.

Never played/bought SCV, but to be honest with SCVI coming in a few months I don't find the need to do so.
