Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I do have to agree that Cassandra looked a little funky in IV. I think it was the small mouth that was always in smile, coupled with her forward brow to make her the "initimidating" of the Alexandra sisters. It created a bad Mona Lisa look.

How quick are we to forget how every character in SCIV looked like a pig. Does nobody remember horseface Cassandra?
Lol...alot of the male characters in SCIV had the same gloomy ugly lookin faces..smh something about that game was just off to me. I was just watchin a match yesterday between Raph n Yun Seong and u could literally switch their hairstyles and it'd be the same character. And yes cassy looked Horrendous.

When fighters opt for realism in the art design it always ages extremely poorly. People may dislike the cartoon-like aesthetic, but that's the way to make a long-lasting art style.

God! Her face was so wrong! She was my main since her appearance in SC2 and she looks so good in that game, especially with the green costume. I really hope that, if she make the cut to the final roster, they can make her face look like the beauty she is.

He's just meant to be a cool sengoku-era samurai. Remember SC is set just after the Sengoku jidai, Oda Nobunaga is in Yoshimitsu's story even. There's a whole bunch of people he's a homage to.

I wouldn’t say it’s set just after more like at its peak which was towards the end.
SC story is set in 1583 and Oda Nobunaga died in 1582.
The Meiji era didn’t start until around 1615
If I remember correctly Mitsurugi’s SC3 stage was meant to represent part Hideyoshi’s conquest...
as at that time he was know to be quite a tyrant by neighboring country’s such as China and Korea.

What I find weird is that the state of japan around that time has never really been part of Japanese representation for this game.

The Fuma and Iga clans have great history to work with.
(How taki hasn’t got herself a ninja rival yet puzzles me)

You can blame the ones that created the models. If they stayed with the same style and what not and improved on them over the years it would've been fine, look at doa and scvi would've looked different then it is now. Also say it doesn't have to be more realism for wow graphics it's how well its been done. Compare sc graphics, style looks etc with other fighting games or games.

yes i am. Because the guy who created the character always knows best how it should be executed. Which gives better results.
Ideally one guy should create an entire character.

Yeah and while he's at it he should make the entire movelist for the character too. Because he would know best about how the character he drew should fight.

Whoever drew the character should also voice the character too. Cause they'd know best bout how theyd sound.

Honestly, lets just have one person make the entire game. Yep.

The best 3D character Models/Animations are done by the same person who created them. If someone else does the work it will never bee 100% accurate to what the creator imagined. And if you are good at drawing and concept art getting into 3D isnt a huge step. I mean it isnt realistic in huge companies but it would produce better results.

Realistically they communicate with each other closely.

And this is just a foolish thing to say.

Having an animesque art style and still expecting the 3D models to look somewhat realistic? Not gonna happen.

SC should have done what Tekken did from the beginning and ditched the 2D concept art for 3D rendered models so no one would have any outlandish expectations for what the models are supposed to look like in-game.

Alternatively, sculpt the 3D models to look more like the concept art and we’d have some sort of animesque fighter on our hands.

It's a fact that concept art is usually always poorly translated to 3D model, but I don't think it makes sense to ask the 2D artist to also model the 3D models.

It is a pretty annoying problem though. 2D art always looks so bad ass... and then there's the lackluster 3D model.

Not even Tekken is exempt from this problem though. The 3D art renders usually always look nothing like/better than the actual in-game models.

Yes it makes sense. Because the creator always has a better vision of the character than some other guy. And if you already are that good at drawing that you can make a living as a concept artist then 3D modeling is a piece of cake. Especially since Sculpting and retopology is a common thing nowadays

This is what I actually want. Takuji Kawano's art style translated faithfully in game like ASW did with DBZ. The models we have now look fine, but that would really make SC6 stand apart and age better. Unfortunately, I don't think they could pull it off AND still do CAS so it'll probably never happen.

This is very true, but you know what, despite me not liking the lifeless art style.

The 2d art translates to the 3d renders in 6 pretty well.
Going by the character select screen anyways
