Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I'm thinking we're not getting any more characters for this month since Okubu showed us two. They'll do either CAS or the other single player mode for Gamescon most likely instead.

There's still probably 7 launch characters left (remember there's the dlc character too), 2 at gamescom is pretty reasonable since that leaves 5 for the last two months. My guess is

2 or 3 at Gamescom
1 in early September
2 or 3 at TGS (depending on Gamescom's number)
and in October they'd reveal the launch day dlc character and maybe the second dlc too (gotta promote that season pass after all).

Going through the Astaroth / Mina trailer, I found a frame that perfectly represents how I felt during the reveal. I shall call it, "FULL MAST."

Seong Mina deviates from the leaks which had me even more worried. Hoping for the best, but back to the waiting game...

When I read the ESRB listing for SCVI nearly 2 months ago and saw spears. I thought of Seong Mi-na. Axes ment Astaroth with the story mode art illustrations he's in, Maxi in SCVI, and stage shown in the Nvidea video. Pistols ment Cervantes because he's also seen in so many story mode art illustrations like Astaroth.

With Seong Mi-na being announced we might need to have a serious talk with Vergeben. I remember a certain quote from him where he said Mi-na wouldn't make it.

*collects pitchforks*
I believe the exact words were "probably not Mi-na". Maybe just normal forks.
To be fair, his quote was more in the sense that she was not likely, and it was a fairly early leak. I don't doubt there were talks of Mi-Na not making it.
Yeah I never got a full deconfirmation or confirmation for that matter of Seong Mi-Na way back in January when I posted that. Only that she'd "probably" not get into the launch roster. But the launch roster and DLC wasn't fully decided on and finalized until June. I still don't know the finalized launch roster or definitely who is DLC yet. Actively trying to find that out still.

But if you want to poke me with forks or even sporks too, that's fine. I can take it.

She's staring into my soul.

Why are they so obsessed with underboob?
Why aren't you? Kappa

After reading several comments "she has no relevance" "she's not popular" "Kilik is better" I finally had my revenge.

Even better was how it was truly a surprise to everyone. Myself included.
I made a post that I never posted here because the site glitched that was responding to a bunch of things here but I had to restart my browser and it lost the whole post and I could not be arsed to do it all over again.
But one of the things was going to be replying to posts ab how to differentiate her, in which I was going to use and link gameplay of Guan Yu and Zhao Yun from Dynasty Warriors that they could take from to help flesh her out better and represent her weapon better.
What I love it how her CE ACTUALLY takes from Zhao Yun's moveset with the spinning on an angle thing. People looked back on that and would've thought I actually heard about her being in but was keeping it a surprise, but I honestly didn't. xD
I was as surprised and impressed as you all were.

Does this mean Hwang or Yun Seung more likely? @Hayate :O
If it means anything, me and Hayate both heard different things that seem to favor Hwang. In my case it was that between the two, Hwang was more likely. I've personally been wanting to see a fleshed out version of he character for years now, which they could do and indicate the character by including him. I hope they saw the potential in that too.

Interestingly the YouTube description says Mi-Na seeks Edge. If so, maybe she’s Talim’s opponent?
Maybe her dark clothing is symbolic? It's just a thought.

Anyone have ideas for the launch day dlc character besides Viola?

I feel like it has to be a proper 'bonus' character who doesn't fit in the base game and I doubt they'll do Dampierre again, so Viola's all that comes to mind for me (maybe Amy I guess?).

I am at this point thinking Yun wont make the roster in front of Hwong. You just... cant really talk about Yun without discussing Hwong's story first. Thats just the order of events.

And I am rather surprised at these reveals. Not surprised that these two made it in, but i mean other characters should probably be revealed at EVO.

They're not adding Viola.

Dark Souls guest makes the most sense for DLC. They own it, so a complicated deal isnt needed. The series is extremely popular with three games and a recent remaster. There is a lot of material to take from. (stages, clothing, weapon skins, characters, gestures) Its cross platform.

So many reasons to use that series and no reasons not too.

It's a Korean character (there was a lot of Koreans in the Tekken tournament after the reveals) and a grappler (a fighting game staple). They make a lot of sense as EVO reveals when you think about it.

The game is out in 2 months and they have 6 characters to reveal still, the two weeks per character reveal seems to be still on logically.

There is nothing saying that they are going to announce all the characters before release so I wouldn't get all your hopes up for an entire roster reveal before the game is out. Going off the way they did e3 with the 2 characters announced prior to e3 and then nothing until july, its probably safe to assume the same thing in this case as well. They wanted to get the two characters for the month out of the way and then focus on the other mode for Gamescon. We get 2 in september with CAS in GamesCon with a couple. At most, we might get one character for gamescon, and I think it would be a new character or another guaranteed like Cerv most likely.

Though I do agree, TGS would probably a good 4 char reveal and probably the last reveal they do outside of the revealing a dlc character before or at launch.

Also, there is still no actual confirmation that the 23 is the actual size of the rooster. Its highly likely based on what we've seen, but its still also highly likely that all the guess work that's being done is on inaccurate information.

Once again, Namco would have finalized the roster well before they started production on the game. The fact that they were adverstising an additional four character DLC months before E3 is further symbolic of how a production schedule at a professional works. They aren't flipping coins on the roster or being indecisive who gets into a roster after they announce a release date. It is just not done. The fact of the matter is, editing and voice acting for localization or for domestic release is one of the last production elements done before a game is released, and I would bet you anything that they had their recording sessions done in the Spring of this year, and that means all characters (if not the DLC, but almost positive they would have theirs done too), would have been completed by now.

Cassandra being a later DLC is a reasonable expectation but launch day would be a bit odd, everyone would just be annoyed at why they didn't just include her in the base game (especially if she was in the story mode).

That's the reason I think it'll be a character like Viola, someone who's easy to accept as an extra bonus like Dampierre was and won't be annoyed at them not getting their own story mode (especially with them being described as a season pass bonus).

Yeah, i'll agree with this. I may not agree on the characters or head count predicted but i do agree that most of the roster decisions had to be done a long time ago.

Follow the evidence guys; the story mode had several blank spots, those have now been filled, there's only 3 spots left. One of those is almost certainly, Cervantes. Any other additional characters are likely bosses, and we know Inferno is one of those.

You learn really quickly. Nothing is every finalized in game development. The closest thing you get to finalized is a deadline/budget and even those are "somewhat" flexible depending on circumstances.

Well if Mi-na is seeking Soul Edge and is on the right of character select, I think as is that could help confirm Lizardman as not getting his own slot.

Final answer I will say
Top left Raph
Left of Mits is Hwang/Yun
Bottom left is Talim
Bottom middle is new character
Right of new character is Tira
Right of Taki is Mi-na
Right of Groh is Voldo
Above Groh is Astaroth
Top right is Cervantes
Right of Talim is Cass
Current random select is actually where Inferno will be

Is that running with the assumption that every playable character needs to also appear on the story mode timeline?
